I’m not living in a fairy land where the storm invented wrestling in a game that already had wrestling coaches there’s a massive difference between inventing something and being the best at it
Brandy is right, storm brought in all these tackling techniques to the game and they were getting away with it, they slowed down the ruck, slow down advantages and get their defensive line set and they got away with it so every other club began adopting it.
Brandy said the Storm introduced the hip drop tackle....largely due to the fact that he's an actual moron.
The slowing of the ruck began with the Roosters, despite what the Sydney media tells you. Go back and watch Stickys Roosters and tell me I'm wrong. Then I guess they had since conceded and hired former Storm players as members of their coaching staff - not the dumbest idea to be fair....maybe the bog average teams should be doing that too.
Off the top of Cam Smiths head he had a free boat and a house and so did all his mates but they weren't cheating the salary cap
GI, Slater, Cronk, Smith and Bellamy were all in on it as well as their agents. All of them should have been rubbed out for 2 years due to it. But instead they all doubled down on it.

Actually there not more successful. Since the Melbourne storm entered the nrl they and my team the roosters have both won 4 premierships and you don’t win if you get caught blatantly cheating so No one counts there stripped titles. And considering the roosters beat the pansy’s with 12 men in a grand final and have won back2back I’d say it’s more leaning the roosters way.

You only have to look at 2019 GF everyone’s talking about poor raiders got robbed, roosters were the ones who had there players legs snapped from under him after a kick and no penalty was going to be given and the only reason they got the ball back was because of the rules when it hit there trainer. the 6 again was not a 6 again, again the referee wanted to give the opposing team another advantage with another set of six only to be corrected by the touchie.
For a storm fan to say another team is protected by the NRL is hilarious.

Cam Smith was one of the biggest grubs to play the game. He performed the chicken wings and rolling pins till the NRL clamped down on them. Still remember the garbage he spouted to the referee when Mckinnon was on the ground. Never apologised. Never thought he should. I hope when people reflect on Smith's legacy they remember the garbage as well as the rest from him particularly when looking at his candidacy for becoming an immortal. Same with Slater (who I doubt makes it now given how much better Teddy is and Churchill was).

His response to Brandy was laughable .The coaching of wrestling may very well have started in the 90's as part of training , but the tactic of adding of wrestling moves to the defence patterns of teams didn't kick off until Melbourne .Not to mention some of the stuff they have done over the years morphed into MMA style moves .
All this proves is how much other fans and clubs hate Melbournes success.Storm are the most hated club because they continue to have success year after year.
Whoever started them.. just get them out of the game as we don't want to see players sidelined for months. Whether the nrl employs sports medical people to judge 'unnatural' positioning in tackles. These players have played enough to understand what is good and bad positioning of a tackled player so by their actions it can be deemed whether there is intent to hurt an opponent. The other way to confirm what brandy is saying is counting the suspensions of every club related to wrestling holds. Jason Stevens I remember said he got tackled once in a game against the storm and I deadset couldn't breathe. Very scary.

Storm are the biggest crybabies about criticism, if the wrestling and all the techniques aren't out of Melbourne, why were they so efficient at it for years? Why were they the best at the wrestle? Like c'mon, grow a pair and suck it up, as Braith said, they pay no attention to the praise they get for being a powerhouse of the game, and focus on the justified criticism of their play. About 15-17 years ago my brother had a friend who was hired by The Storm to teach Brazilian jiu-jitsu to the players. He said he trained them in key locks ( I think he called them ) on shoulders n elbows as well as knee n ankle twists. I don't know MMA but my bro showed me a chimera or kimore n it's a chicken wing tackle. MMA guys apparently break n dislocate shoulders using it.

At 3:28 you see Adam Blair grappling. In MMa it is fine to do that because you have 2 arms to move around & put yourself in a better position but in NRL with ball in one hand and to have another player do that to your other hand, that's just simply a dirty tactic that has been introduced into NRL football. Moves like that should be banned rather than the shoulder charge.

Its fairly well documented the roosters started all this in 2002, they win the gf doing it everyone follows suit, the call was red, two men basically catch a guy up top for no offload, third man comes in down low to guarantee a slow play the ball, the storm just perfected it, adding all sorts of dodgy stuff to hurt people, they win a bunch of gf's doing it, easy fix penalise the third man in, if two men have got someone and momentum has stopped its not necessary for anyone else to get involved, they only trying to slow the play the ball or hurt someone

I'm confused. We went from big hits and shoulder charges to a faster game albeit since 2013 with no shoulder charges but with the introduction of wrestling/grappling tackles.
The brand of football today sucks and Players can't make a name for themselves no more with big hits BC now u gotta wrap your hand around which many times lead to head clashes BC not everyone on the field is the same height.
The NRL needed to eliminate the shoulder charge because players in lower grades have died from the contact to the head a shoulder charge can bring and the possibility of class action law suits from retired players who took too many head knocks

I don't like grubby moves like the grapple tackle or the chicken wing that melbourne players did but as far as their wrestle and clinch to slow the PTB and reset their line i don't have a problem with that. There was nothing illegal about it i hate how fans and ex players hate on it.
The NRL looked the other way because they enjoyed the storms quick success. If not for a whistleblower they may have also escaped penalty for cheating the cap!
The problem is that the NRL let it slide for too long. Hell even now Melbourne get away with murder in the ruck with few penalties. The Panthers now enjoy the same leeway
Brandy should be careful before he opens his mouth, he should watch some of his own teams matches from the 90's. Heaps of hip drops by pathers of yesteryear plus some nasty and aggressive tackles around players necks by himself plus planting a knee into Big Mel's stomach. He obviously has amnesia or the onset of dementia. Bad tackles, aggressive play has been around for years and years. When you look back, they were just as bad as current Nrl games, if not more, they just weren't penalized as much as today.

Clear lineage. Bellamy starts at Brisbane under Wayne Bennett. Bennett brings in a bit of wrestling coaching as it applies to football and how it's played. Bellamy goes to Melbourne, makes a career 9f being like Wayne and expands the wrestling training to the point where it begins to change the game. Other clubs got on board too, but I feel like the worst offences were usually Melbourne so they became the poster girls for it all
The wrestling is a symptom of a problem which is rule changes.. I would say most teams adopted it at the same time

It's true. For Cam to say, go back to 1990 and you will see that Wrestling coaches where on the team ist of trainers is also true. BUT! They weren't being coached the type of tackling techniques that the Storm wrestling coaches were teaching. Either that or the Storm players got those techniques completely wrong. Either way, there is no doubt that these poor tackling techniques came from Melbourne.

20+ years ago a mate (Wrestler) from my GYM asked a Knights assistant if he wanted him to show the players some wrestling techniques etc, that he thought could be beneficial. The assistant declined along the lines of, what use is it. This was before any wrestling etc, etc was in the NRL.

Melbourne have been competitors for a long time, and part of how they've gained their advantage is being meticulous in many ways like preparation and bending the rules.
It is not the responsibility of a single club to play in the 'spirit of the game' - whatever that means.
The rules that were created to counter what tactics the Storm brought in, was made by the NRL and it highlighted the flaws or lack of ruling in the game.
It is the job of a club to win as much as possible within the confines of the rules. They bend the rules, other clubs follow suit to stay competitive, NRL counter it via new rules or penalisation.
I'm just confused at the vindication of Melbourne and also the reaction from Melbourne as well.. also Buzz is an actual simp.
Of course it didn't start at the Storm.....mouthy NSW based journalists (and I use that term loosely) and a few 'pundits' have been battering this and many other rubbish narratives for years. It's a combination of not wanting to share their special NSW only sport with anyone else, and just straight up tall poppy syndrome. Brandy is one of the worst offenders too.
