Born and raised on staten Island.. Moved out 6 yrs ago. Growing up in tompkinsville was gorgeous.. But a new generation has made it ghetto and un recognizable... I haven't been back for a visit. And don't want to.. But, looking at these new buildings are beautiful!.. Now just to get rid of all these ghetto people..70s and 80s were the best years for me on SI..

How is this Downtown? I know those neighborhoods mentioned in the video have that "Downtown feel" but they're all on the northern tip of the island. Actually the southern tip of the island has that "uptown feel". But still, downtown is not north even though on Staten Island that area resembles downtown stereotypes

There are different areas on the island like any other place. North shore of the island is very urban. From Todt Hill to the south shore or the island you see mansions and more suburban feel
Oakland Cali is getting gentrified. Why not Staten Island. Why let potential property that has been left to stay in poor condition continue in a world of over population. this needs to be fixed up. I don't mean to kick the original neighbors out. but why allow it to continue to be treated like a waste site?

And the street lights only get bright at dark for the kids to play if they are out late. The reason of this is it is very local so it looks beat up but they showed a lot of hoods. I live in one. It has changed a lot. I have lived there my whole life and still do but it is a little less “ghetto” and is starting to make places nicer.
