Nobody wanted Robbie to succeed more than me since seeing that shot release in Junior. His game just doesn't translate well to the NHL game and I started to give up on him last year.. The problem with Nick is despite having an elite shot, he doesn't have the hands, hockey IQ, or playmaking ability to take advantage of it. Not to mention the injury risks and lack of strength in his frame to be consistent at the NHL level. The Leafs should've sold high on him a long time ago...
This 100%. The guy ahs a great shot but bobbles the puck so much, wanders around the offensive zone never really getting in a good position for a pass or shot. I've noticed on multiple occasions where the entire team is passing it around or cycling and Robertson is skating around aimlessly or standing in a terrible spot for a pass resulting in no one even trying to pass to him and it feeling like were playing short handed. Guy has negative hockey IQ.
@@ShadyLurker16 Wingers Andrey Kuzmenko and Nick Robertson were respectively born in February 1996 and September 2001 (the latter coincidentally on 9/11 Pacific Time [although whether he was born before terrorist attacks had occurred in NYC via two planes that had crashed into the World Trade Center or after such attacks occurred may never be known]). Robertson was drafted in 2019 at 53rd overall by the Leafs and thus in the second round while Kuzmenko was never drafted. The 2019-20 AHL-CHL-ECHL-KHL-NHL season with feature Robertson play for the Peterborough Petes of the OHL during the regular season, the US World Junior team during the same season and play in four playoff games for the Leafs but would feature bouncing between the Leafs and Marlies from the 2020-21 to 2023-24 season. That was five street seasons of bouncing between the NHL and a lower-level North-American league. Kuzmenko, during the first four relevant hockey seasons following his 18th birthday, also bounced around between his homeland highest professional men’s ice hockey league, the KHL, and lower leagues, but after having played under contract to CSKA Moscow found a home further north in St. Petersburg with local club SKA. Two seasons ago he would sign a one-season sub-US$1 million contract whose expiry would unusually include an ability to test unrestricted free agency were he not to have signed another contract before July of the calendar year during which that initial NHL contract was to have expired. That said, his February 1996 birth had already meant that even before he had played the last game of that season, he already surpassed his 27th birthday. Yet during the month before that birthday, he would sign with the Canucks a 2-season US$11-million contract that had included, in each season, an ability to choose up to 12 teams to which the Canucks would not be allowed to trade him without his permission. Robertson’s regular-season stats have been all over the map although from his major-junior career to his NHL one, he has, in each playoff series, had a subzero +-minus. Putting up 2 points, both goals, over his past 20 NHL non-preseason games, clearly indicates how much he has been struggling even with a welcome goal he had scored this weekend against the Bolts. Kuzmenko has its regular season struggled with the Flames but proportionately has averaged, over 24 games, more points (0.375) than Robertson (0.1).
Vatrano? Idk the problem with Robertson is he is awful on the cycle game he just gets pushed off the puck by anyone too easily last year he scored mostly off the rush just like his goal against Tampa and Bérubé style unfortunately has made our rush chances among the worst in the nhl despite its improvement everywhere else
TBD is which NHL team will want Robertson. There have after all been just three offer sheets, from the 2019-20 NHL season, of which Canadian NHL team have been on the receiving end. If the Leafs haven’t received an offer sheet for Robertson by now, they probably never will, making a trade or, barring that, not giving him a qualifying offer the only way to move on from him. If the Leafs don’t find a trade partner for him before his existing contract expires, and they still want to move on from him, they may as well let him walk into unrestricted free agency without a qualifying offer.
the preseason was ahlers and hes shown hes better than the A already, but hes never shown hes good enough for the show and his points didnt matter last year, he didn't forecheck, backcheck, hit, defend, nothing you want an nhl regular to do (which is why he was often sent down and not played)
He’s up around 12 minutes a night excluding the last few games where he had been up and over 16 minutes he just doesn’t score in a cycle game last year he scored predominantly off the rush and Bérubé style has killed the leafs rush game unfortunately
Toronto has ruined him....he's the poster child for needing a fresh start. Find another team with a young player that also needs new scenery or a veteran that can help your middle six.
It's time to go, sorry Nick, I'm sure you'll do great on another team but for the leafs it's not a good fit. Especially when guys like pacioretty come back I don't see how Robertson stays in this lineup, it's really unfortunate because the potential for this guy was hyped up for years but he hasn't been able to produce, calling up cowan and playing him instead of Robertson would do a lot more than continually playing Robertson
If you trade him, he’ll be on top 10 for scoring in the league on his new team. So, just do it and let the guy have a prosperous career elsewhere *sigh*
The leafs have a problem with depth scoring. He’s part of that. He’s not doing it, and he’s holding a spot that may be better used by someone else. With how Minten and Grebs have played, they are showing just as much right to Robertsons spot. And with how he’s playing, it’s not just him. He is a detriment to his line mates. Like I get that some guys have issues scoring. Thats fine. Please tell me how you as a forward can play 20 games, some of which have been on the power play and with guys like Willy and Mitch and not even fall face first into a secondary assist? That is what kills him for me. He’s not even contributing to the success of his line. So now your not talking about one player, your talking about an entire line under performing. Now it is a significant problem because that’s 25% of your forwards.
Once Jarnkrok is back Robertson will be sent down. The only reason he's playing is because the Leafs are injury riddled. Leafs will not get much for him if they do trade him.
It's entirely possible Domi simply isn't as good as we all think when tasked with a 200 ft game. I mean, he's had some great linemates and just isn't putting up points. With other players in development pushing for spots, it seems better to move on from Domi and possibly get something back that looks a little different.
I’ll say he played a good chunk of his games hurt before having to stop so his assists stopped coming and we know he isn’t good enough defensively to be a top 6 centre he could play very well on the wing in the top 6 but Bérubé refuses to try it out
Too bad they didnt trade him that one time when he was contributing... he's barely worth a draft pick at this point.. maybe a 4th lol. Waive him and move on. Oh and the Penguins and Dumbass can have him, good riddance to an empty jersey.
Toronto has been bad a developing defense but their forward development has been great Robertson just doesn’t have much game outside his shot, he doesn’t drive offense himself and in a cycle he has no idea for good positioning and when he does he just gets nudged to the ground it’s actually sad to watch him you know he can shoot but he can’t put himself in positions to score unless it’s off the rush which we don’t do under Bérubé
@owenritzie1779 We score off the rush plenty in Washington. I think he would fit nicely on Washington's bottom 6. (I've been eyeing this dude for a while and I want him on the Caps, if you can't tell)
Robertson has WAY too many problems with his game to waste this much time on. Sadly he is not an NHL player. It is time to move on, get what you can, or waive him. If* you want a deep explanation of my reason I would gladly expand.
Yes, trade Robertson along with Dewar, Holmberg, Benoit, Timmons, and Reaves! None of these players are impact players, none of these players are scoring, and none of these players are tough, whom embrace physicality. Reaves has NOT fought once this year? The Leafs are the 3rd or 4th heaviest team in the NHL. Unfortunately, the team is 32nd in team toughness. Tre, needs to add some grit and physicality to the roster? Until, that area of concern is addressed, the team is going nowhere in the playoffs! When the Leafs play a physical team like Florida, the Leafs fear and are intimidated, thus lose their game plan and the skilled players are non-productive, offensively. The Leafs current roster, is not built, too WIN Lord Stanley!

Trade him for what? replace him with who? I agree his production isn't good but he's cheap and fills a spot they're kinda weak on right now.
But it wont always be cheap look at Timothy and Sandin

What are you gonna trade Robertson for though? A few pucks and a used hockey bag?

maybe it's the other way around
Team ramrod

Maybe nick watches cause he just had the most fired up goal i have seen all year!
Whoever was about to bet on Robertson scoring tonight, you shouldn't of let Jessie talk you out of it LOL
Trade him please so he can play on top 6 and score 45 goals.
At least it wasn’t the Leafs this time that gave out over $60 million this time
Toronto has ruined him....he's the poster child for needing a fresh start. Find another team with a young player that also needs new scenery or a veteran that can help your middle six.

Meh. That's the Steve Sullivan argument, but Sullivan got injured a lot and he was a lot better than Robertson. Never won a Cup to my knowledge.
@ maybe the context got a little lost in translation. I’m just more stating how that generally happens to the Leafs. Haha
I don't think nick Robertson playing will hurt us if he is the difference in a game we got bigger problems

Trade him for another Domi!!
He just kinda sucks. At times he skates faster than his ability which leads to some breaks but always end with him falling and missing the net.
Send him to Dallas with his brother they can be meh and over talker about together
Trade him to calgary and you can take huby as Brad should live with that contract everywhere he goes
Remember guys salary cap Leafs have no money to play with. What are you going to trade him for somebody else at $875,000 a year?
Salary retention or yes a league minimum player who's actually performing well
