when I was little, I had no friends at all. everyone hated me, but when I watched Digimon Adventure, I felt that the digital world was a place to escape, and a digimon partner would be the ultimate friend. this cast of charecters helped me through my lonelyest times. though they may not be of flesh and blood they exist in my heart as my first real friends. thank you digidestines for an inspireing childhood!
this is actually how im feeling right now. literally rewatched the first 2 digimon series in a week cause of loneliness and no friends. The digimon and cast in the show really bring me comfort
I will always love the small fact that the writers managed to make the very last word used in these two great seasons the very name both shared, 'Adventure'. That words perfectly sums up what the two seasons were about as well. :)
"Now it's up to our children and to children everywhere to follow their dreams! Who knows where they'll end up, but the only to find out is to take that first step into adventure." - T.K. ,25 years later
LamboVeneno117 Not really, Tai and Sora had about as much romantic interactions as Matt and Sora, which is almost none. Even though TK and Kari do have the most romantic teasing out of any of the characters, I can still see them eventually going their separate ways. The problem I have is that there's no closure into how they did. Its pretty much just "Romantic Teasing > Boom, too bad."
Love this episode because they all grow up to have normal jobs and normal lives. After all the fun they had as kids. Made me grow up being very realistic as a kid and understand that growing up is something we all have to do eventually. Digimon is such a good anime; one of a kind series and I'm glad to have grown up in Digimon generation.
Well, I can sort of see why some people aren't impressed, seeing as how a lot of these careers (except for Davis and Joe) seemed to come out of nowhere. Also, I think the concept that EVERYONE on Earth now had a Digimon may have been off-putting as well.
As a kid I was actually very satisfied and happy with this ending. Watching it again today I still feel it brought everything in together nicely. Yeah maybe they didn't become what they wanted to be as kids but those are just the changes that happen in real life. The Ken x Yolie relationship was actually kinda nice. I always thought they'd get together as a kid. I'm probably going to get flamed for this comment, but hey, live and let live.
this is my favorite ending to a digimon series, because it makes the ending of last evolution a lot less sad. it shows that the og digidestined do get to see their digimon again
@@robertbreschard3493 Sora is a sporty tomboy. She always wore basic outfits, so why does she become a fashion designer? That sounds more appropriate for Mimi. Matt was a successful rockstar. So why is he an astronaut?
"I will never be okay with Matt and Sora" Based, I completely agree with you. As far as I'm concerned, we the fans get to decide what's canon and I say that it is canon that Tai and Sora got together.
Aww. So much nostalgia. It's great to see the entire gang and their kids all together. Matt really does seem to have the mind of a writer during this part. Great video!!
"oh and there were also some really terribly written events prior to this where our digimon got rebooted and then vanished because we got too old but somehow came back to be part of this epilogue".
The writer of the show had an interview and said this ending is Canon and the movies showing the reboot and last evolution with augumon and gabumon disappearing is just additional things they went to before reaching this event in the series that 25 years out. So in the end Augumon and Gabumon do reunite with Matt and Tai
Honestly, this ending that was foretold all those years ago is the only reason why I didn't become absolutely livid and give up on life at the Last Digievolution Movie. 😭😭😭😭😭 That they kept their promise. I get that distance makes the heart grow fonder but come on cutting it a little close there 😂😭😭 What's so wrong with having friends and others with you *as* you grow? What's so wrong with this ending? Isn't it the point in life to grow with others? Not grow up and abandon and forget everything that makes it worthwhile? Especially a bond as deep as Digimon.
No Bullshit, No forced separation, no last minute fuck you to our heroes. Just a Happy Shining "War is done Raise your hand towards the sun" ending. I love it
I like this too because Season 3 doesn't show any of the Digidestined from the 1st and 2nd seasons so this is a good wrap up to the original seasons of the show because seasons 1 and 2 have the same characters sorta.
Good T.K.: Author Tai: Diplomat Joe: Doctor Izzy: Computer researcher Kari: Teacher Davis: Noodle Cart Okay Yolei/Ken Matt/Sora Cody: Defense attorney Yolei: Stay at home mom WTF Matt: Astronaut Sora: Fashion Designer (I get it her mom owns a flower shop and the tomboy thing was a phase but still what?) Mimi: Cook (something about this seems off) Ken: Detective (also seems off) All their children being carbon copies
Even as a 19 year old guy, I felt and feel betrayed by this ending. I invested so much time and soul into this show its unbelievable. To this day me and my sister re watch this show over and over. But when this epilogue rolled around, nuh uh. This is bullshit. Even as a guy, why did the girls get really pussy jobs? Sora and Mimi kick ass and lay down the heat, especially Sora! And she becomes a fucking fashion designer? No. And this fucking ending tries to tell us that Tai and Sora didn't get married! Bullshit! Same goes for Kari and TK. I'm extremely emotionally attached to this series and I really hope Bandi does away with this epilogue for the new series and listens to us. They've had 15 years to hear that we wanted Tai and Sora, and Kari and TK to get together and shit and they better not fuck this up!
People can be friends and don't end up together most of the time. And what the heck is wrong with a fashion designer?!? That's a super prestigious job! It's kinda gross to look down at a job you find... girly I guess?
Digimon did what a lot of kids animes didn't they told you what happened at the end and actually gave you and proper ending i cried when i saw it but i loved that they did it and i still do 10 years on
"A great opening for fanfics" LOL. LMAO, even. :p I don't think it's the worst ending to a show (it's no Voltron or Star Vs) but between the inexplicable career choices for half the cast and canon pairings that made Naruto and Hinata look well crafted by comparison, it's not a surprise to me that fandom collectively ignores the last 90 episodes of that show.
You think this ending is lame, just try to remember the last time an anime tried to give complete closure to a series. Bet you can only think of a few limited examples, such as CLANNAD. "Bad", maybe, but tried to give us total and complete closure for the characters we came to know and love. They could have just ended it with the defeat of the bad guy and then credits roll. Besides, with the new Digimon Adventure 2015 reboot (?) they may get to fill in more before this ending or flesh this one out even more.
Speaking as someone who was lice watching at the time, a whole lot of the wanking about the "bad" ending was mostly people wanking about which ships did or did not become canon more than any other aspect. People were even trying to argue for *years* that Sora and Matt didn't get married despite being the only two in the group that were seen dating and the very big visual clue of the children they were each speaking to. I'm glad subsequent Adventure projects have made it abundantly clear that they're together. Matt and Mimi had the most out of left field career decisions but everyone else I was okay with. And overall yeah, it's nice to see where the kids all ended up at the end.
True, maybe for the kids of the Digi-Destined who are married, have the Digimon be crossbreed of the parents' Digimon, and for the children of those not married, either give them different Digimon or different variants of their parents' Digimon.
I always hoped that Tai and Sora would end up getting married and have a family and T.K. and Kari would as well because they both seemed a perfect match for each other.
This is where Digimon ended for me. I watched the first two Seasons and the Movie (technically, the first three Movies) all those years ago and had fun. But when I tried Episodes from the other Seasons years later, it wasnt the same anymore.
TBH, I thought this was gonna be me and I tuned into Tamers for the purpose of hatewatching but that series won me over. Frontier OTOH was dead on arrival. Not even a bad concept per se, but the franchise's biggest strength has always been its characters and it was soooo empty, especially the joins late in the cast character. It's a wonder it only took three years for a new Digimon show and not a decade or more like when _Star Trek_ hit it's Digimon Frontier era.
the idea of tai and augumon becoming diplomats is very interesting...because this inplies much more than the earth merely accepting the digitial world's existence...but that both worlds are exchanging ideas and cultures...and that the digital world as seen as a Severin nation and is recodnized and considered in political affairs.
Frankly this was what tri. and kizuna should’ve been. Rather than the bad fanfics we got which cash in on nostalgia and shock value of separation which isn’t even going to stick because this is still canon.
Me neither. I bear no disrespect to the canon epilogue, but for me, if it turned out differently, Taiora would've been made canon from the start. It would've been prevalent in the epilogue where Tai and Sora are happily married with children.
I admit I didn't liked this ending when I first it, Sora being with Matt instead of Tai and some of the characters career choices, looking though back I can see what the creators were trying to say to it young audience. Things change with time, you change, the people around you change. You probably wont become what you wanted to be as a child, you probably wont end up with your first love. It doesn't mean you'll be unhappy, just that life takes you down different roads. It good lesson for kids.
Lol... I remember seeing this lousy epilouge on tv years ago...I kept staring at the tv as my soul slowly departed from my body and my jaw dropped down to the floor XDDThen when the epilouge was over, after 40 seconds I was like.."What?.."
I was in 4th grade and my classmates and I were pissed lol. Didn’t matter if you were a girl or boy, gay or straight - a LOT of people watched Digimon for the romance potential. Like a kid version of himym almost!
You have to wonder who the girly girls (the ones who dressed in pink throughout their adventures) Mimi and Kari married during the time skip seeing as the only known marriages are Matt/Sora and Ken/Yolei and guys dominated both generations of digidestineds. What’s even more puzzling is who Kari married since it obviously wasn’t Davis or T.K..
It seems like not a lot of people here like the ending. I however, really like the ending and think it's cool. For those of you who are still mad about the relationships, just look at it from another perspective. Signs may have pointed to certain digidestines becoming married in the future, but they were all still kids. Joe I think was 15 in season 2, being the oldest. Time changes people. We develop new ideologies, beliefs, interests and some mature faster than others.
OMG i cried watching this, i havent seen digimon since 4th grade when everyone loved digimon and pokemon, it was the coolest thing in the world, i never saw the end, but seeing this just helped bring an era and memories to an end, or at least it feels that way, ima cry.. sniff sniff
In the Manga, Davis is the one doing the final Narration. He states that Matt and Sora are married. He doesn't say anything about T.k and Kari getting married, he mentioned T.k as a novelist, and that Kari did marry and that it wasn't to him, but got over it. Kinda.
The ending was kinda rushed, they shouldn't have made a timeskip epilogue. They also shouldn't have make any pairing in the end, since it would not be fair for people who ship other pairings. Taiora and Takari both were my first ship when I was younger, and I don't even know what shipping was back then. And both of the couple didn't get together. DAAMNNNNNNNNNNNN.
I think TK and Kari are the only ones that deserve to be together since they were the only ones who actually showed a hint of great liking eachother. Usually I'm never into fandom of any sort and I partially can't stand it but I just like them together.
I’m here because I wasn’t satisfied after watching the last movie Digimon last evolution. I cried like a mf and I hope we’ll have another movie/serie reuniting them
We will :) )2 has their shot at the Tri treatment and Im sure there will be some continuity for the OG digi destined.. Me, personally, I do think Kizuna sets up a nice return for a super villain like Myotismon or Piedmon...I get the vibe of them saying something like "You digidestined have grown old, and incapable...no you digibrats no longer have your partners to protect you.."
So many memories, so many feelings :') I loved Ken and Yolei (my favourite) back then but I always thought Yolei deserved a better ending. She was the second generation's counterpart to Izzy (another favourite) and the best they could find was a stay-home-mom job for her or the like. It was a little disappointing. Also, I always assumed Sora and Matt got divorced in the end, since they were deliberately arranged so that Sora looked closer to Joe (even their kids look closer than the brothers). And Davis got the funniest ending of course xD
I just noticed that adult T.K. here sounds like Daigo Nishijima from Digimon Adventure tri., which makes sense since Doug Erholtz voiced both of them. XD
I LOVE who they paired Kari up with in the end. It wasn't Davis OR TK. It was some guy who we NEVER saw OR heard about, but ended up with the girl everyone loves the most from Digimon. In a way, its for the best. All the Daikari and Takari fans don't have to be mad at theo other one for "winning" in the end, since neither side won. Anyway, I think I can speak for everyone when I say- Thank you, and congratulations, you lucky son of a bitch! ROFL!
lol i bet the majority who want this retconned are just butthurt that their ships didn't happen. The Tri producer said in an interview, that Tri's story will revolve around this epilogue. It will basically explain why humans and digimon live together. There are also new character bios. Yamato still has his band and Mimi is still living in the US (both are 02 events) So, a retcon is highly unlikely at this point.
Yeah true.. but this ending is still shit though.. i don't care about ships but i hate this crappy ending.. this ending is the animated equivalent of *"AND THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER..OR WHATEVER.. STFU KIDS!"*
i must be one of the only people who actually like this ending, it gives closure, which a lot of animes and other shows i've seen don't have, or didn't have written well....maybe i'm crazy, but i really like how the ending shows what they did. I don't care if it "fits" the character, its meant to be far in the future. Opinions and interests change in that amount of time. I for one actually like who they put together and what professions they ended up with.
I’ve always loved it too, it’s only recently that I learned that others didn’t really like it lol. As kid it was just very satisfying to see them all grown up and with their own lives and families, etc, it just felt really touching to me too. I always like endings where we get to see what happens to the characters years later, thinking about it now I don’t think a lot of the shows I watched as a kid had this sort of epilogue so this really stood out to me
While a lot of people are hating over pairings and jobs, or Malomyotismon...I find it more annoying that their kids are are little clones of themselves, Tai got a haircut, and Davis' child is the leader of the new kids completely shunning the Adventure team :(
***** Yeah, I know what you mean. I recently watched it and it completely erases Oikawa's villainy, and almost making the only true villain of 02 be the supposedly unfinished villain of Adventure :/
@MegaStorm252 No, they purposely made them look the same so you knew what kids belonged to what parent. Creators have been doing that for years. Disney is a classic example. They only had 3 min to let you know each of them had kids, so they made the kids look like the parents. I don't like it, but it wasn't because they weren't creative. It was so you knew whose kids where who's in case they never got to make more digimon to expand the story. :)
I think the thing most people miss when discussing the more superficial aspects of 02′s Epilogue (such as couples or careers) is that its biggest problem is the tremendous implications of “everyone having a Digimon partner” - and the fact that it does not even try to explain how the world is actually dealing with it. Let’s not kid ourselves: a world where every human being is aware of the existence of other worlds, and where everyone is paired with a creature that is both a cute pet, a prolonging of your very soul, an ever-loyal best friend, and a weapon of a huge destructive power is just not our world anymore. Everyone having a digimon partner would simply be the biggest transformation in human history. Everything would change. Suddenly, every individual - politicians, businesspeople, scientists, terrorists - would want to use Digimon to their own ends. Society would have to be organized differently: How do governments deal with everyone - including evil or unbalanced people or even small children - being armed or able to travel between worlds? People’s core beliefs would be affected as well: How do you reconcile Digimon and its “magical” properties within the framework of major religions and myths? Science would be turned upside-down as our basic understanding of the universe would totally change. Social conflict would arise because not everyone would accept the digimon, and not everyone would agree on how humans should coexist with them. Not a single area of human life would be unaffected by this. On an individual level, things would be very different as well. Imagine everyone living their lives with a Digimon partner who provides unconditional love and support, who challenges you towards self-improvement, and who is willing to fight for you unquestionably. Imagine how this would affect interpersonal relationships: Would people be better? Would loneliness be less of a problem, or would people isolate themselves from other humans and depend on their partners for company and emotional support? And this universe has shown plenty of times that the partner bonds can go wrong - how do you teach people to control with their partners? And what happens to people who don’t want digimon partners at all? And consider the generational shift at hand - the Chosen Children’s kids would be among the first humans to be born in a world with Digimon. Their upbringing and their worldview would be radically different from that of their parents and everyone that came before them. Unless you’re ignoring their environment, this is really important if you’re imagining personalities and HCs for the Epilogue kids. In other words, the idea that by 2027 everyone would be happy and singing kumbaya and that Digimon would only bring happiness and world peace is a pie in the sky, especially when you consider the digimon-related external threats that would constantly appear in the human world. To be fair, the Epilogue doesn’t say that this is the case, but it seriously undersells the gravity of the new status quo or its effects on life as we know it. The best-case scenario (where you still have a recognisable sense of “normalcy” in our world) is the possibility that the Digimon do not live with the humans, but rather stay in the Digital World and travelling between the two worlds is a rare, heavily regulated business. Everyone would have a Digimon partner, but very few people would see them on a regular basis - except the Chosen Children and perhaps government or defence organisations. How you control this, I don’t know. But this is the only scenario where things don’t change dramatically. Another “safe” possibility is that everyone has a partner but evolution is somehow very limited. A Baby II partner could be compared to having a pet dog - it can cause damage, but it’s usually safe. But Child-level partners would be more of a hazard, because they’re powerful enough to destroy stuff or even hurt people. And if everyone can evolve their partners to Adult level with relative ease, then it’s a disaster - because suddenly is as if everyone has a military arsenal at home, at their command. Or people could simply, you know, decide to ride their Airdramon to work. (The universe already establishes how difficult it is to get to Perfect level and beyond, thankfully - but only a handful of Perfects could still create a huge mess). The more you think about it, the more you realise how huge the implications of “everyone having a Digimon partner” are. It’s not a happy utopia, as some people imagine. The 02 Epilogue is basically a futuristic dystopia. To conclude, I find it very difficult to make Epilogue-compliant headcanons because we simply don’t know to what degree the world has changed. The Chosen Children’s children would have a completely different experience from “normal” humans that goes way beyond trying to imagine the life of a baby born in 2017 or even in the next few years. Imagining future Adventure scenarios requires a lot of rethinking and world-building! Every Digimon fan should read Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy, because it provides an interesting possibility of what a post-Epilogue world could look like. I don’t think there are many fanworks that have truly explored the social/political/philosophical implications of the Epilogue or tried to make sense of what it means, but there should be! And an actual series set in the future could have tremendous potential… if it really decided to explore these ideas and embrace the world-changing possibilities.
Henry Stanley Restrictions on evolution. BTW, even if the evil people had digimon, the good people could still fight back with their own digimon, that fits well with the statement that the fight between good and evil would continue forever.
From what I read through the comments, the only fans bellyaching that this should be declared non-canon are butthurt Taiora fans that didn't get the ending they wanted.
I rewatched this after hearing the creator say that there were hints to the new season hidden in the epilogue, and then I went through some of the comments on here. To say that I agree that this was a terrible ending is an understatement. As a writer myself, it felt rushed and unplanned, something they threw together because they were running out of time. Of all the things that came of this epilogue, the only things I can agree with are Daisuke's and Takeru's jobs. Daisuke wanted to own a noodle cart. That was his dream, and he made it come true. Takeru's only makes perfect sense seeing as he is the narrator of the entire show. I suppose I can also accept Miyako's marriage to Ken, as that was heavily alluded to from the start of 02 anyway. To be honest, I think Yamato would have been better suited for Taichi's entrepreneur job, and was by far better off not married to Sora. Of all the things in this, that is the one that upsets me the most. Defend it all you want, the context clues were so few and far between that the ending result came out of left field. Also, to all of the Takeru/Hikari fans, it wouldn't have worked. Hikari can't be pinned down, and despite Takeru's efforts, I honestly don't think that it would have worked for them. While it may be true that the digital world can't keep its balance without the both of them, them together as people, not as chosen children, would not have worked well ultimately. Furthermore, I've seen a lot of people knocking on Sora and Mimi's careers as a fashion designer and chef respectively. While I agree that Sora's chosen profession comes from nowhere based on her tomboyish nature, Mimi's is actually very fitting seeing as her mother couldn't cook to save her life. It plays so well into her character growth of not doing anything for herself into learning to do something that not only she could do for herself and for others, but something that she didn't have to rely on her parents to do for her anymore. All that said, there are bits and pieces that I feel were planned from the start and that the writers were able to implement well enough, and others that came out of nowhere and sucker punch you right in the gut. As a fan of the show for over a decade, I'm hoping to either see a retcon of this epilogue, or some damn good excuses as to how things ended up for the children the way they did.
I sort of agree. I don't think it came completely out of left field, but to jump from a musician to an astronaut is pretty drastic. Of course, that's not to say that I'm a fan of the decision, but there a a few very minute context clues that would suggest Yamato being an astronaut as a chosen profession isn't so farfetched.
"Hikari can't be pinned down, and despite Takeru's efforts." What does that even mean? He was never trying to "pin her down." Despite the fact that they are the most developed pairing in the series, the show didn't actually go into that much depths in their relationship so we can't really say much specifics on whether they fit each other. The only thing we really know is that he cares a lot about her; last I checked, that is almost universally a romantically thing. She also confide some of her problems to him, especially in the Japanese version, and while that is not necessarily an indication of romance, it does show she trusts and respects him.
Takeru says there that it has been 25 years and he married Hikari. I didn't believed it at first but when Takeru came to meet up with everyone, Yagami Taichi's son told his dad "otoosan mite mite, arewa Takeru ojisan!" (Look dad, it's UNCLE Takeru!) I was surprised by this because here in Japan we call our uncles a relatively way (it means that Taichi's son is Takeru's nephew. How did he became Takeru's nephew? He married Hikari that's why they are now brothers thers more but no room left
After destroying MaloMyotismon, the DigiDestined are all growened up,make their jobs, and they even got married and have childs of their own. Davis will keep Mr. Yukio Oikawa's promise of his memories, and he and Veemon will keep the Human World and the Digital World from the forces of evil.
Many don't know this but Miyako/Yolei wasn't really a housewife in the epilogue, she was a programmer along with Sora's father, Jyou/Joe's brother and Koushiro/Izzy. She was merely on maternity leave in the epilogue. We know this from the Adventure Character Files.
Prefer the original Japanese because in the ending, you’ll hear the song “Butter-Fly”, the opening theme of the first Digimon Adventure anime. RIP Koji Wada
@@JNT737 Yeah, possibly due to Fox Kids S&P demanding it (also, Sora and Matt got married, as Sora's kid has Matt's hair color and Matt's kid Sora's hair color).
Tai-Became a Japanese diplomat within the UN (Figures. That guy was born to lead, though I thought he would instead become a professional athlete whose sport is soccer). Matt-Became an astronaut which is cool beans, though I was so sure for the longest time as I grew up watching this cartoon that he would be the lead singer/guitarist in a popular band which of course, had its roots as the Teen Age Wolves. Sora-Got married to Matt (How and why did she end up with my dream Digidestined man?!) and became a world famous fashion designer (which I honest to God assumed would be Mimi. I thought Sora might either be a well-known tennis player or continue her Mom's work as a florist). Izzy-Totally predictable. Computer programmer and Digiworld researcher. Two of the only things I believed Izzy would ever be married to. Such a nerd. Mimi-A famous chef with her own cooking show (If she couldn't be a fashion designer, at least she's got game in the kitchen. Most especially with desserts from the looks of it). Joe-Once again, totally predictable. He became exactly what he always said he should be and became a doctor. Of humans and digimon alike. (Old Reliable Joe: saving lives and mending digi-boo boos everywhere) T.K-Became an author who wrote a series about his adventures with his big brother and friends in being a Digidestined. Now if he only ended up with Kari, that would be perfect. (I have truthfully never been able to imagine T.K marrying anyone else). Kari-Became a kindergarten teacher and is doing exactly what she loves as you can see. She should have ended up with T.K, but as long as she didn't end up with Davis, I guess I can't complain. Davis-Ended up doing exactly what he always dreamed of doing despite certain others who once would have laughed at him for it and is now the No. 1 Japanese noodle cart guy (if only in his own mind, but I'm sure his noodles would likely be delicious since he seems to be getting by). Wait a minute, he's been featured on TIME?! Guess there was more to Davis than almost anyone ever realized, even his closest friends. Yolei-Married Ken Ijijoji (YES!) and became a housewife and mother of three. Somehow, I always thought that she didn't just have to settle with being a stay at home Mom. That girl could have gone to university and did something scientific maybe. Ken Ijijoji-Married Yolei and is a super hunk of a detective. His dark days of being the Digimon Emperor forever a thing of the past as he works to solve serious crimes and protect others. Whoever said he could never change or overcome tragic past demons and creepy predators alike? Cody-He's a lawyer so he's doing very well for himself. And of course, their digimon companions stayed by their sides and the Digidestineds' children got their own digimon friends in good time. So whenever the next evil monster comes looking for a fight, they'll be the ones who'll likely have to face the challenge of battling to save both worlds. THE END. And that was the last Digimon season I had ever been into before outgrowing the series. But the memories for what they're worth live on. 💕❤️😎❤️💕
Shawna Scott Yolei wasn't really a housewife in the epilogue, she was a programmer working along with Sora's father, Jyou/Joe's brother and Koushiro/Izzy, she was merely in maternity leave in the epilogue. We know this from the Adventure Character Files. So she very likely did went to and obviously did something scientific.
+Milo Mondo Tri is focused primarily on the OG 8! The 02 cast plays a minor role (OR may not even appear) in the series. This has been said and confirmed since day 1! That's why takeru and Hikari spend most of their times with the 01 team
+hithummah tri isn't over yet, they might mention them in one of the later movies, there's supposed to be six (around 24 eps). Also I think it's funny that after watching tri a ton of old fans clearly checked up on the ending to reconfirm some things haha.
***** funny. You call me captain obvious.... yet here you are stating the obvious yourself. Of course nothing was explained dude... this was only the first movie!!! We still have 5 more to go!!!
+hithummah That's a negative sir, as you can see, everything is lined up to this happening, you just didn't understand. In Digimon TRI they're in High School, this ending is way after, when they're adults already with kids. Are you forgetting that Tai's teacher told him he should learn languages? (International relations? Any clue?) What about Jo becoming a doctor? Why is he studying to become a doctor in Tri then? Get it together guys, pay attention when you watch something. Digimons came back to the world, now showing up way more to people as only some of them know what they are, and there are still people that don't know. Who knows what will happen, they even have a government organization that knows about Digimons and Digital worlds, this ending is VERY MUCH leadable.
Lol! Yolei: Whatever happens, don't get all paniky. Yolei's daughter: But, Mom, that's what you always do. T.K. Ken and Stingmon are detectives, but Yolei says Ken can't seem to detect when it's his turn to do the dishes. I love it!
Personally(don't take it to heart, just sharing a thought~), it's all nice how in the ending, they show them as adults with kids etc, sometimes I wish they didn't end the episode like that, but I guess it was to show how dreams come true(with their dream jobs). Also even though it was only 2 couples that were made in the end(Matt and Sora/Ken and Yolei), in ways it would of been best if they didn't do coupling, due to bias fans etc(I have no problems with it). Just a quick moment on the Tai and Sora part, if you see how the 2 best buds behave towards other people(stating from season 1), Tai was abit more focus to save the digital world, took here and there time to check up on how people feel(of course he matured in season 2). But then all of a sudden he took some interest in Sora, which is weird(oh well) o.O. While Matt went through emotional shit and help out others due to the Crest of Friendship, also takes some time to understand how people feel(also because he's the 'cool one', jokes) But since they did coupling, they could of shown how their relationships grown and such(le tears T^T). Sadly what's done is done.....the creator/makers of the show chose this and we must deal with it. Maybe one day it'll be redone with a better ending also with help from a damn load of demands/requests from fans~ XP
When I think of it, since now they have kids, I'm surprised the creators didn't prolong with this specific series to show what their kids do in the DigiWorld etc... o.o
honestly, about the couples, it was already a dumb idea (even for a kids show) but the Matt/sora part bogles my mind and angers me to this day, i still don't get it, they had absolutely nothing foreshadowing it, and when you remember the first season it makes absolutely no sense, it's like the writers didn't even know what the fuck they were doing or were biased (more proof of that on the fact that Sora, who clearly has intentions of becoming a athlete, suddently becoming a fashion designer) it feels rushed and given how good the series was to a certain point it's probably the result of having several writers (seven to be precise) + editors + alcohol
Well the coupling will always be mind bottling, but it would of been best if they never did that. The careers still get me confused for Sora, Matt and even Mimi, because you thought that she would be a fashion designer. From what I read on different sites, they said that for Sora, when she finally got a better bond with her mom, she end up being more feminine and started to have an interest change etc. Matt was in a band and all of a sudden a freakin' astronaut(wtf)... Yolei, I thought she would have like a 'manly' type of career because she was like super pumped up etc...but....housewife...geez v.v Ken I don't know about that. Ummm I thought to myself at one point that Kari would like be an author, instead of T.K.(even though she said she wanted to be a teacher), because she understands the emotions and stuff of Digimon etc, and maybe like Izzy would write about the 'technical aspects' of Digimon. Personally of course in the first T.K was a kid and said such silly, cute things, also didn't understand/learning about how Digimon work, and in the second season, I find that there were times he was 'durped' out XP So I don't know how he's the author. At least one of them tells the story. But no matter what, I loved them all~ ^_^
Akira Stitched Heart it's all just bullshit really, the pairings and the jobs (though sora i'm retty sure she liked being a athlete, i don't think it was jst because of her mother), like I said to Joe Martino on the post above, i't feels like the creators didn't even care, and like i said to him, i used to love this series, but it angered me back when i was a kid, and it angers me now that the ones who CREATED this don't care when we cared though with seven writers + editors+ alcohol + the way bandai treats the show (believe me, they probably saw digimon as a brief cash cow,) this kind of thing is bound to happen they could have simply not done this and it would be a better ending, no bullshit pairings, no weird inconsistent jobs, this ending feels like someone sprinkled shit all over the last piece of a fine cake
Back when I first saw the Digimon 02 finale, I thought it was one of the most heartwarming endings to a story I ever saw! Looking at it now, I see that it is one of the cheesiest endings ever! MaloMyotismon defeated by positive feelings, then a dying Oikawa uses his last ounce of strength to transform himself into FREAKING BUTTERFLIES!!! Fast-forward 25 years and EVERYONE has a Digimon partner, while several of the main characters have occupations that don't match them, at all! Talk about a major ass-pull! To think, some people have the nerve to say that Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood had a cheesy, cliche-ridden, and unrealistic happy ending!
I enjoyed season 2, but I agree that the ending was disappointing. To me, everyone ending up with a digimon takes away from the rareness and importance of the digidestined.
MisterJonesification Exactly! Remember The Incredibles? When Syndrome said that he would patent his gadgets and start selling them, once he rid the world of supers? When everyone is super... No one will be. Giving Digimon partners to everyone just doesn't work!
SemiJuggalo Exactly. Another example is if everyone had superpowers, Superman wouldn't be so 'super' anymore. It's one of my few gripes with an otherwise great season of Digimon.
MisterJonesification Well, if I'm to be honest, the ass-pull of an epilogue is just ONE of the problems with 02. They dropped two potentially awesome subplots, as well! Remember the Lovecraft-inspired Dark Ocean, with its creepy-ass Divermon standing in for the Deep Ones? Speaking of which, they were the servants of Dagomon, who was an obvious stand-in for Cthulhu! Or what about that badass villain, Daemon? Not only was the Dark Ocean stuff never properly resolved, but Daemon was banished to the Dark Ocean by the DigiDestined, because he was too damn powerful to defeat! Not to mention, the only glimpse we saw of Dagomon was his silhouette, as he rose up from the depths! Who's to say that Daemon and Dagomon won't team up and reopen the gateway to either the real world or the Digital World? Hopefully, with Digimon Adventure returning next year, we'll actually get to see this happen! More importantly, maybe it will retcon the crappy 02 epilogue out of existence!!
Funnist Preacher To each his own, but I found the ending disappointing. Honestly, I get what they were trying to accomplish, and I don't feel as let down as I used to, but I still don't like it. In retrospect, I found Digimon 02 to be a mess, overall. Apparently, having an opinion doesn't make me a real fan.
watch this after watching "last evolution" is the only way for make me believe taichi and yamato still can still can meet with their pokemon even already become an adult 😢😢😢
I really dont get why all the other digidestined got a 3-5 second video of them self working and TK talking about their life except for Kari.... all she get is '' Kari's a teacher. she actually like being in school''. Maybe the company cut of a part where Kari and Tk are being together or TK just want to avoid her..
Nguyệt Hạ Song Hy haha me too. but what if they were a couple and then broke up for some reason and TK just want to avoid her hehehe. But I still hope the company did delete a scene of them being together and if it is true im mad at them
actually I've read that somewhere, they said that the producer confirmed that "T.K and Kari were dating a bit in high school then they broke up...", I just hope that's NOT TRUE T-T and we'll see T.K and Kari being together in the new series
Nguyệt Hạ Song Hy OMFG really? where?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!! If it is true....... THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE KIDS HAPPY!!! It's a children's show! they want them to cry (like i am now) I mean come on What a lazy director Lazy Akiyoshi Hongo Fuck Toei Fuck Bandai (^sorry if im wrong in any ways ^)
OMG ! You don't need to say sorry..cuz I'm kinda feel that way too >< I'm really really really hope that information is not true !! I'd gonna cry my eyes out if they don't make T.K and Kari an official couple and give them a happy ending TOGETHER in the new series
Aelex Hiew You said its not random well if it isn't then show me where in 02 Matt has shown any interest in being a Martian. Show me where in 02 ken showed any interest in becoming a detective. *"anything could happen in that timespan"* Which basically means they can just make random shit up.
Aelex Hiew *"Complaining about it defeats the purpose"* No it doesn't! I'm pretty sure making an ending this random&abrupt without a proper build up or transition is considered bad writing.
To be fair, maybe they were just preparing their audience for the harsh truths of life: the girl you like will always go for the popular douche over you, computer nerds don't get girlfriends, and once you get in a girl's friend zone you're their forever even if you've know her since you were 8, saved the world together multiple times, and are FUCKING PERFECT FOR EACHOTHER IN EVERY WAY
It was reported by Toei that they were married. I think TK doesn't end up mentioning that they were married because Matt and Sora weren't really main characters in season 2 but Ken and Yolie were. However, you can believe whatever you want I just wanted to let you know they didn't get divorced. According to the company anyway.
I don't understand why it doesn't seem exceptable that maybe some of the digidestined that seem to only have a son or daughter have married or coupled with other people outside of the group, and that their husbands/wives/other half didn't have to be introduced into it because it isn't about them. I do understand how the writers of the show heavily teased us about Kari, T.K, and Davis being in a love triangle in the second series, but it wasn't implied who would have gotten together with who, I think they wanted to leave it up to our imaginations. Many wanted Kari and T.K together and many others wanted Kari and Davis together. I wanted Kari to be with T.K in the second series because of the fact they've known each other longer, and that they were close. Personally, I like the fact they're open to change and they had to end the story of the first and second digidestined at some point to welcome new ones to come and save the Digimon world, and they have with a few other series.
Because no kairi and Tk ship 😭 And that they went with the Matt X Sora ship which was everyone’s least favorite ship behind Sora X Tai ship and the Matt X Tai ship…lol
@@sikisikiamimis “pathetic” 😂 either that’s just a new word u learned in pre-school today or I clearly struck a chord with u there 😂😂😂 hey I guess the Matt X Tai ship wasn’t for everyone
I just hope that the new Digimon Adventure(2015)sequel series will just retcon this miserable epilogue. At least now there is hope for some fix to this atrocious ending and the whole TK & Kari problem.
For me, this NEVER HAPPENED no matter what people says. For me Tai and Sora got married, and they became profesional football players. Tk and Kari married: Kari is teacher and TK wrote a book about their adventures. Mimi became a fashion designer and married Joe, who became a doctor. Matt married a random girl fan he met and became a famous pop star. Izzy and Yolei married, and they were both researcher and scientific of the Digital World. Davis started his ramen shop in the USA and met a beautiful model woman that loved him. Ken moved to Mexico and stayed closer to Rosa, who is a beautiful woman now. They knew better each other and got married. He became a detective because of his intelligence and because of his past with Oikawa. Cody stayed alone, he thought that he will learn more without any object or wishes so he became a buddhist to find his own peace.
I know a lot of people dislike this ending, but personally, I enjoyed it immensely. My favorite thing has to be the fact that they actually get to stay with their digimon instead of separated (which usually happens in digimon endings). Just my opinion though.
Granted, I'm not saying there wouldn't be issues, but I can see it still being a good thing overall. At least, having a digimon best friend has done pretty well for the main characters, psychologically. That's kind of how I picture it working. Sort of like everyone has their own personal therapist.
What a contrived and cheap conclusion. A total cop-out. This season had sub-par writing for the most part. I could barely get through it at first because of the terrible pacing at the start. While it was mildly entertaining, it failed to leave any sort of impact on me, unlike seasons 1, 3, and 4. Just because it's canon, it doesn't mean the writing is any less lazy. I will give it this, though: I did enjoy the character development with Ken, Cody, Yolei, and to a lesser extent, Hikari and Takeru. The episodes closer to the middle of the season were the better ones, in my opinion. However, it still felt shallow and rushed at times, like the ending. Easily my least favorite season.
One of the things that bothers me about this ending besides Taiora's sinking is the careers of the Digidestined. Except for maybe Kari since she did mention wanting to be a teacher during the final battle, they all seem to have come out of nowhere with no real hinting at all. How does someone whose whole thing throughout the season was pursuing a music career go from that to astronaut and at that, the first man on Mars? Maybe because it completely robs her of that Tomboy aspect I loved about her, but Sora becoming a fashion designer just never sat well with me. If anything that sounds more like something for Mimi. Hell, I can certainly believe in the idea of Mimi potentially being the one who made the dress for every wedding that happened whether the bride was one of the Digidestined or someone who was marrying one of them than Sora. They could've at least had Sora become a pro tennis player or at least one who got to rep Japan in the Olympics! As for Joe, wasn't his whole character arc in Season 1 about how he wanted to have his own life instead of the one his parents wanted him to have and him becoming a Doctor flies in the face of it?
@@Bell_Matt Probably the Taiora thing. At least that's only slightly the case for me. The other is how most of the careers the Digidestined all got just didn't really make sense. My reply already picked apart Matt's, Sora's and Joe's. Another one I don't get is how Davis ended up going from kid who saved the world to owner of a noodle shop. I don't even remember him saying thing one about wanting to own a noodle shop or him even taking cooking lessons.
Between this and kizuna are 17 years(Tais in kizuna is 22 and her 39 according to wiki). Thats a long time to put in storys to anwser questions. In the end its gonna be like a "they were never realy gone" or a gods help thing or something like that
This scene was basically the original "Nineteen Years Later".
Sad to see them go
I think this was the better version TBH
Just like harry potter ? 😂
when I was little, I had no friends at all. everyone hated me, but when I watched Digimon Adventure, I felt that the digital world was a place to escape, and a digimon partner would be the ultimate friend. this cast of charecters helped me through my lonelyest times. though they may not be of flesh and blood they exist in my heart as my first real friends. thank you digidestines for an inspireing childhood!
I hope and pray you never be alone again. 😊😊😊😊

I will always love the small fact that the writers managed to make the very last word used in these two great seasons the very name both shared, 'Adventure'. That words perfectly sums up what the two seasons were about as well. :)
And poohs adventures well they are pretty exciting

WTF? TK and Kari were the most obvious couple in the series and they didn't end up married?? Mind blown
Well them and Tai and Sora
LamboVeneno117 Not really, Tai and Sora had about as much romantic interactions as Matt and Sora, which is almost none.
Even though TK and Kari do have the most romantic teasing out of any of the characters, I can still see them eventually going their separate ways. The problem I have is that there's no closure into how they did. Its pretty much just "Romantic Teasing > Boom, too bad."
Andrea Lyuu Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Funnist Preacher i wanna believe that :c
But Davis was the one who actually had a crush on Kari
Love this episode because they all grow up to have normal jobs and normal lives. After all the fun they had as kids. Made me grow up being very realistic as a kid and understand that growing up is something we all have to do eventually. Digimon is such a good anime; one of a kind series and I'm glad to have grown up in Digimon generation.
Yes normal job such as *checks notes* astronaut
Well, I can sort of see why some people aren't impressed, seeing as how a lot of these careers (except for Davis and Joe) seemed to come out of nowhere. Also, I think the concept that EVERYONE on Earth now had a Digimon may have been off-putting as well.
@@EdBoy1215 Izzy and TK’s occupations fit well for them as well.

I think that Kenyako doesn't make much sense. They even put more interactions between Ken and Kari than Kari and Ken
Agreed
Perfect bookend to the first two seasons
I stopped watching after season 3
Shame they couldn’t capture same lightning in a bottle
I dont like how the kids are practically carbon copies of their parents and dont even get their own personal digimon
Kids being similar to their parents make sense, but the kids having the exact same digimon is kinda weird.
Well, what's more confusing is Sora and her kids.
The Digimon could have the same intraining forms and just digivolve into a different rookie level.
Stfu, libtard. Go pkay the games, tool. They digivve into different forms.

Based, I completely agree with you. As far as I'm concerned, we the fans get to decide what's canon and I say that it is canon that Tai and Sora got together.

"oh and there were also some really terribly written events prior to this where our digimon got rebooted and then vanished because we got too old but somehow came back to be part of this epilogue".
There's a video possibly explaining this by a youtuber by the name of thedigiknow. Go check it out, it's quite convincing
I get that distance makes the heart grow fonder but come on cutting it a little close there 😂😭😭
What's so wrong with having friends and others with you *as* you grow? What's so wrong with this ending? Isn't it the point in life to grow with others? Not grow up and abandon and forget everything that makes it worthwhile? Especially a bond as deep as Digimon.

"A great opening for fanfics" LOL. LMAO, even. :p
I don't think it's the worst ending to a show (it's no Voltron or Star Vs) but between the inexplicable career choices for half the cast and canon pairings that made Naruto and Hinata look well crafted by comparison, it's not a surprise to me that fandom collectively ignores the last 90 episodes of that show.
The best thing about this ending is that no matter how many awful endings they make in Kizuna/Beginning, they can never erase this ending xD.

People were even trying to argue for *years* that Sora and Matt didn't get married despite being the only two in the group that were seen dating and the very big visual clue of the children they were each speaking to. I'm glad subsequent Adventure projects have made it abundantly clear that they're together.

As cute as this is I kind of wish that all the Digidestined kids had had different Digimon from their parents.
True, maybe for the kids of the Digi-Destined who are married, have the Digimon be crossbreed of the parents' Digimon, and for the children of those not married, either give them different Digimon or different variants of their parents' Digimon.

Rather than the bad fanfics we got which cash in on nostalgia and shock value of separation which isn’t even going to stick because this is still canon.
i'm still not over tai and sora
Me neither. I bear no disrespect to the canon epilogue, but for me, if it turned out differently, Taiora would've been made canon from the start. It would've been prevalent in the epilogue where Tai and Sora are happily married with children.
Yeah trash writing i dont ever want to even talk about that shit ever again
I wonder why Matt saved sora
I admit I didn't liked this ending when I first it, Sora being with Matt instead of Tai and some of the characters career choices, looking though back I can see what the creators were trying to say to it young audience.
Things change with time, you change, the people around you change. You probably wont become what you wanted to be as a child, you probably wont end up with your first love. It doesn't mean you'll be unhappy, just that life takes you down different roads.
It good lesson for kids.

Well let’s ask Kari
It seems like not a lot of people here like the ending. I however, really like the ending and think it's cool. For those of you who are still mad about the relationships, just look at it from another perspective. Signs may have pointed to certain digidestines becoming married in the future, but they were all still kids. Joe I think was 15 in season 2, being the oldest. Time changes people. Mimi is almost like Delia Ketchum from Pokémon
I always liked this ending. It's just really nice to see the Digidestined as adults
And still with their Digimon ... as it should be.
@Joseph Shea true. Hopefully this means that Tai eventually meets with Augumon again and the others with their partner.
@@jedigamer9935 It does since the 02 ending is still canon. :)
OMG i cried watching this, i havent seen digimon since 4th grade when everyone loved digimon and pokemon, it was the coolest thing in the world, i never saw the end, but seeing this just helped bring an era and memories to an end, or at least it feels that way, ima cry.. sniff sniff
Who are the new main characters
Shipping is overrated
There's still hope for TaKari! The ending never did establish who they were married to.
@@thelordofsalem3044 the creator admitted that kari and t.k never got married to each other sadly =

I think TK and Kari are the only ones that deserve to be together since they were the only ones who actually showed a hint of great liking eachother.
Usually I'm never into fandom of any sort and I partially can't stand it but I just like them together.
Kisscartoon is hackable
I’m here because I wasn’t satisfied after watching the last movie Digimon last evolution. I cried like a mf and I hope we’ll have another movie/serie reuniting them
The creators of Digimon Kizuna said they are making a movie around the 02 kids.
Man we missed them and before our eyes Kari grew
Yolei has love for science, she could have been a researcher like Izzy
I heard that Yolei was on maternity leave during the epilogue.
1:38 that boy so lucky for his beautiful Angewomon
At least Kari’s voice is still here
I just noticed that adult T.K. here sounds like Daigo Nishijima from Digimon Adventure tri., which makes sense since Doug Erholtz voiced both of them. XD
What if Kari had a Naganadel
I LOVE who they paired Kari up with in the end.
It wasn't Davis OR TK. It was some guy who we NEVER saw OR heard about, but ended up with the girl everyone loves the most from Digimon.
In a way, its for the best. All the Daikari and Takari fans don't have to be mad at theo other one for "winning" in the end, since neither side won.
Anyway, I think I can speak for everyone when I say- Thank you, and congratulations, you lucky son of a bitch! ROFL!
Kari looked cute in her pajamas
I'm glad that their friendship is still the same. I have a feeling that it'll last forever.
It will touch our hearts
lol i bet the majority who want this retconned are just butthurt that their ships didn't happen. The Tri producer said in an interview, that Tri's story will revolve around this epilogue. It will basically explain why humans and digimon live together. There are also new character bios. Yamato still has his band and Mimi is still living in the US (both are 02 events)
So, a retcon is highly unlikely at this point.
Yeah true.. but this ending is still shit though.. i don't care about ships but i hate this crappy ending.. this ending is the animated equivalent of

You're not the only on. This ending is beautiful
I’ve always loved it too, it’s only recently that I learned that others didn’t really like it lol. As kid it was just very satisfying to see them all grown up and with their own lives and families, etc, it just felt really touching to me too. I always like endings where we get to see what happens to the characters years later, thinking about it now I don’t think a lot of the shows I watched as a kid had this sort of epilogue so this really stood out to me
While a lot of people are hating over pairings and jobs, or Malomyotismon...I find it more annoying that their kids are are little clones of themselves, Tai got a haircut, and Davis' child is the leader of the new kids completely shunning the Adventure team :(
And they all also have the same digimon that their parents had. :'D
***** That is true haha, it's sad they never put more thought or effort into making them all unique and individual :( lol
I think the thing most people miss when discussing the more
superficial aspects of 02′s Epilogue (such as couples or careers) is that its
biggest problem is the tremendous implications of “everyone having a Digimon
partner” - and the fact that it does not even try to explain how the world is
actually dealing with it.
Let’s not kid ourselves: a world where every human being is
aware of the existence of other worlds, and where everyone is paired with a
creature that is both a cute pet, a prolonging of your very soul, an ever-loyal
best friend, and a weapon of a huge destructive power is just not our world
anymore.
Everyone having a digimon partner would simply be the
biggest transformation in human history. Everything would change. Suddenly,
every individual - politicians, businesspeople, scientists, terrorists - would want
to use Digimon to their own ends. Society would have to be organized
differently: How do governments deal with everyone - including evil or
unbalanced people or even small children - being armed or able to travel
between worlds? People’s core beliefs would be affected as well: How do you
reconcile Digimon and its “magical” properties within the framework of major
religions and myths? Science would be turned upside-down as our basic
understanding of the universe would totally change. Social conflict would arise
because not everyone would accept the digimon, and not everyone would agree on
how humans should coexist with them. Not a single area of human life would be
unaffected by this.
On an individual level, things would be very different as
well. Imagine everyone living their lives with a Digimon partner who provides
unconditional love and support, who challenges you towards self-improvement,
and who is willing to fight for you unquestionably. Imagine how this would
affect interpersonal relationships: Would people be better? Would loneliness be
less of a problem, or would people isolate themselves from other humans and
depend on their partners for company and emotional support? And this universe
has shown plenty of times that the partner bonds can go wrong - how do you
teach people to control with their partners? And what happens to people who
don’t want digimon partners at all?
And consider the generational shift at hand - the Chosen
Children’s kids would be among the first humans to be born in a world with
Digimon. Their upbringing and their worldview would be radically different from
that of their parents and everyone that came before them. Unless you’re
ignoring their environment, this is really important if you’re imagining
personalities and HCs for the Epilogue kids.
In other words, the idea that by 2027 everyone would be
happy and singing kumbaya and that Digimon would only bring happiness and world
peace is a pie in the sky, especially when you consider the digimon-related
external threats that would constantly appear in the human world. To be fair,
the Epilogue doesn’t say that this is the case, but it seriously undersells the
gravity of the new status quo or its effects on life as we know it.
The best-case scenario (where you still have a recognisable
sense of “normalcy” in our world) is the possibility that the Digimon do not
live with the humans, but rather stay in the Digital World and travelling
between the two worlds is a rare, heavily regulated business. Everyone would
have a Digimon partner, but very few people would see them on a regular basis -
except the Chosen Children and perhaps government or defence organisations. How
you control this, I don’t know. But this is the only scenario where things
don’t change dramatically.
Another “safe” possibility is that everyone has a partner
but evolution is somehow very limited. A Baby II partner could be compared to
having a pet dog - it can cause damage, but it’s usually safe. But Child-level
partners would be more of a hazard, because they’re powerful enough to destroy
stuff or even hurt people. And if everyone can evolve their partners to Adult
level with relative ease, then it’s a disaster - because suddenly is as if
everyone has a military arsenal at home, at their command. Or people could simply,
you know, decide to ride their Airdramon to work. (The universe already
establishes how difficult it is to get to Perfect level and beyond, thankfully
- but only a handful of Perfects could still create a huge mess).
The more you think about it, the more you realise how huge
the implications of “everyone having a Digimon partner” are. It’s not a happy utopia,
as some people imagine.
The 02 Epilogue is basically
a futuristic dystopia.
To conclude, I find it very difficult to make
Epilogue-compliant headcanons because we simply don’t know to what degree the
world has changed. The Chosen Children’s children would have a completely
different experience from “normal” humans that goes way beyond trying to
imagine the life of a baby born in 2017 or even in the next few years.
Imagining future Adventure scenarios requires a lot of rethinking and
world-building!
Every Digimon fan should read Philip Pullman’s His Dark
Materials trilogy, because it provides an interesting possibility of what a
post-Epilogue world could look like. I don’t think there are many fanworks that
have truly explored the social/political/philosophical implications of the
Epilogue or tried to make sense of what it means, but there should be! And an
actual series set in the future could have tremendous potential… if it really
decided to explore these ideas and embrace the world-changing possibilities.
There would most likely be laws about digimon's use.
Such as?
Henry Stanley Restrictions on evolution. BTW, even if the evil people had digimon, the good people could still fight back with their own digimon, that fits well with the statement that the fight between good and evil would continue forever.
And what about those who don't have human partners, like oh, Alphamon, Daemon, just to name a few?
What if there comes a day when evil becomes too strong...?

Da Powah Oh my god you made me spit out my tea all over my computer screen with that comment
From what I read through the comments, the only fans bellyaching that this should be declared non-canon are butthurt Taiora fans that didn't get the ending they wanted.
Oh trust me mate, that's the *least* of my issues.
Kari could be like the goddess hestia
As a fan of the show for over a decade, I'm hoping to either see a retcon of this epilogue, or some damn good excuses as to how things ended up for the children the way they did.
and I dont like how yamato was the astronaut, no sense.
YonakaNiji
I would still prefer Takeru as the astronaut for some reason, but i dont know, that is my opinion
YonakaNiji i just can't wait for digimon tri
"Hikari can't be pinned down, and despite Takeru's efforts."
What does that even mean?
Man I like that endings are happy but the beginnings have me confused

Many things even the movie
(Old Reliable Joe: saving lives and mending digi-boo boos everywhere)
T.K-Became an author who wrote a series about his adventures with his big brother and friends in being a Digidestined.
Okay...

Any clue?)
What about Jo becoming a doctor?
I love it!
Wormon you mean
When I think of it, since now they have kids, I'm surprised the creators didn't prolong with this specific series to show what their kids do in the DigiWorld etc... o.o
honestly, about the couples, it was already a dumb idea (even for a kids show)
but the Matt/sora part bogles my mind and angers me to this day, i still don't get it, they had absolutely nothing foreshadowing it, and when you remember the first season it makes absolutely no sense, it's like the writers didn't even know what the fuck they were doing or were biased (more proof of that on the fact that Sora, who clearly has intentions of becoming a athlete, suddently becoming a fashion designer) it feels rushed and given how good the series was to a certain point it's probably the result of having several writers (seven to be precise) + editors + alcohol
But no matter what, I loved them all~ ^_^
Akira Stitched Heart it's all just bullshit really, the pairings and the jobs (though sora i'm retty sure she liked being a athlete, i don't think it was jst because of her mother), like I said to Joe Martino on the post above, i't feels like the creators didn't even care, and like i said to him, i used to love this series, but it angered me back when i was a kid, and it angers me now that the ones who CREATED this don't care when we cared
though with seven writers + editors+ alcohol + the way bandai treats the show (believe me, they probably saw digimon as a brief cash cow,) this kind of thing is bound to happen
they could have simply not done this and it would be a better ending, no bullshit pairings, no weird inconsistent jobs, this ending feels like someone sprinkled shit all over the last piece of a fine cake
I agree. v.v

SemiJuggalo
Exactly. Another example is if everyone had superpowers, Superman wouldn't be so 'super' anymore. It's one of my few gripes with an otherwise great season of Digimon.
MisterJonesification
Well, if I'm to be honest, the ass-pull of an epilogue is just ONE of the problems with 02.
Apparently, having an opinion doesn't make me a real fan.
matt a astronaut= WTF no he should not.
Yes this was the comment. I guess you changed opinión now xD
Javi Alonso i did in fact change it, but they need to explain why he did.
joey8062 I have think about this: at the end of Tri Matt receives an invitation saying he can go to the space
watch this after watching "last evolution" is the only way for make me believe taichi and yamato still can still can meet with their pokemon even already become an adult
😢😢😢
Yes, their "pokemon"
Taichi and pikachu are the best partners
Agumon, my favorite pokemon from one piece
the only gundam i wanna see is medabee
Digimon
Haha reading the comments I laugh a lot with the persons that thinks that digimon tri will erase 02 xD, poor fanboys
+Lees Windforce troll
joey8062
Troll? Because I only say the true ;)
+LyCaN Sure, sure XD ;)
Your point?
this ending is canon to tri
I really dont get why all the other digidestined got a 3-5 second video of them self working and TK talking about their life except for Kari.... all she get is '' Kari's a teacher. she actually like being in school''.
Maybe the company cut of a part where Kari and Tk are being together or TK just want to avoid her..
I'm hoping that your first theory - "the company cut of a part where Kari and TK are being together", was right T-T
Nguyệt Hạ Song Hy haha me too. but what if they were a couple and then broke up for some reason and TK just want to avoid her hehehe. But I still hope the company did delete a scene of them being together and if it is true im mad at them
actually I've read that somewhere, they said that the producer confirmed that "T.K and Kari were dating a bit in high school then they broke up...", I just hope that's NOT TRUE T-T
and we'll see T.K and Kari being together in the new series
Nguyệt Hạ Song Hy OMFG really? where?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!! If it is true....... THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE KIDS HAPPY!!! It's a children's show! they want them to cry (like i am now) I mean come on
What a lazy director
Lazy Akiyoshi Hongo
Fuck Toei
Fuck Bandai
(^sorry if im wrong in any ways ^)
OMG ! You don't need to say sorry..cuz I'm kinda feel that way too ><
I'm really really really hope that information is not true !!
I'd gonna cry my eyes out if they don't make T.K and Kari an official couple and give them a happy ending TOGETHER in the new series
I just cannot accept this ending no matter what ppl say LOL i rather thr's no one specific ending and the future is left for us to imagine
Yeah fuck this ending.... random timeskip outta nowhere, random careers and giving everyone a Digimon? NOPE!
Aelex Hiew Yeah like Matt Being an astronaut or Ken being a detective THAT makes sense right? totally makes sense.
Aelex Hiew You said its not random well if it isn't then show me where in 02 Matt has shown any interest in being a Martian.
Show me where in 02 ken showed any interest in becoming a detective.
*"anything could happen in that timespan"*
Which basically means they can just make random shit up.
Aelex Hiew
*"Complaining about it defeats the purpose"*
No it doesn't! I'm pretty sure making an ending this random&abrupt without a proper build up or transition is considered bad writing.
+விஷ்ணு கார்த்திக் yeah yeah, sure.
Digimon Adventures 02 felt like the GT of Dragon Ball Z .. I hope things get retconned in the upcoming Digimon Adventures Tri ..
***** What was wrong with the epilogue?
+Funnist Preacher a lot of things.
Nick Colley The only thing that I saw wrong was a couple of the careers.
02 is cannon, the digimon staff confirmed it along time ago!
+Gwen Borgnine Now we have seen first OVA and it was awesome!! Childhood memories :)
To be fair, maybe they were just preparing their audience for the harsh truths of life: the girl you like will always go for the popular douche over you, computer nerds don't get girlfriends, and once you get in a girl's friend zone you're their forever even if you've know her since you were 8, saved the world together multiple times, and are FUCKING PERFECT FOR EACHOTHER IN EVERY WAY
It’s hard to say goodbye
Sir, this is a Wendy's
"Noodles! Noodles! Come get your noodles!" Has inserted itself in my brain for decades now.
It was reported by Toei that they were married. I think TK doesn't end up mentioning that they were married because Matt and Sora weren't really main characters in season 2 but Ken and Yolie were. However, you can believe whatever you want I just wanted to let you know they didn't get divorced. According to the company anyway.
I love this end =) Takari was my fav couple when I ws little...I still like it but now I think that Mimi is BEAUTYFUL!!!!!!! She really is ^///^
Beauty is only skin deep
Reboots are not so overwhelmed
I love this ending, it makes me feel connected, and if that's so, how come people say it is the worst anime ending of all time?
Because no kairi and Tk ship 😭 And that they went with the Matt X Sora ship which was everyone’s least favorite ship behind Sora X Tai ship and the Matt X Tai ship…lol
@@Gunrayz another reason?
@@Gunrayz Wow...what a pathetic reason to hate the ending
@@MoonStudio95 there are actually a couple more real reasons and lamboveneno117 sums a lot of them up in his comment better then I can.
@@sikisikiamimis “pathetic” 😂 either that’s just a new word u learned in pre-school today or I clearly struck a chord with u there 😂😂😂 hey I guess the Matt X Tai ship wasn’t for everyone
At 1:26, I was blown away by the fact that Mimi had a son. A part of me expected her to have a daughter.
One that looks like her ?
A spinning image of her
All the DigiDudes look so good 😍 lol especially Matt! Davis, Cody, Ken & Tai looking like snacks
I just hope that the new Digimon Adventure(2015)sequel series will just retcon this miserable epilogue. At least now there is hope for some fix to this atrocious ending and the whole TK & Kari problem.
***** Its Toei not bandai
***** Bandai (Now Bandai Namco) Only makes games and toys. Toei is the one who handles the animation.
They didn't. They're keeping it.
Nope! It's not retcon at all, check online for yourself. Gla it isn't!
***** Have you watched the season? until then its only speculation. I am not saying that to retcon it, I am saying to develop the story
I dont know, I kind of liked astronaut alot
(Puts on shades and activates neuarilizer) Son, Tai and Sora got married, Matt and Mimi got married and TK and Kari got married.
best comment ever! I remember as a kid being so sad watching this ending and how they all skipped 25 years ahead!
You're free to disregard canon in favour of your fan fiction. I for one am sticking with the canon where the Digimon creator wrote it all
Better fanfiction than Digimon Tri?
I'm going to say this. THE ENDING SUCK!
when I was little I always wanted sora and tai endup each other, BUT NOOOOOOO
+Dodalalal91 don't lose hope yet. We still have DA tri that suggests that Sora likes BOTH Tai and Yamato
+Ken93Cy
that suck even morrrre T___T
+Ken93Cy

+Ken93Cy tri takes place before all of this, unless they're erasing the canon
My (leading) gripe with Digimon 02 epilogue was: sheer possibility of Digimon rebels against humanity for latter's obsolescence
These guys still had their partners after tri and last evolution
I know a lot of people dislike this ending, but personally, I enjoyed it immensely. My favorite thing has to be the fact that they actually get to stay with their digimon instead of separated (which usually happens in digimon endings). Just my opinion though.
But every person in the world having a partner of their own? That sounds like trouble on the horizon.
Granted, I'm not saying there wouldn't be issues, but I can see it still being a good thing overall. At least, having a digimon best friend has done pretty well for the main characters, psychologically. That's kind of how I picture it working. Sort of like everyone has their own personal therapist.
What about terrorists and dictators?
They could probably assemble a sort of human/digimon police force to deal with anyone who tried something. Hey, maybe that's what Ken helps do.
Would Digimon be employed into military, not just in Japan? What if a legion of evil Digimon emerge from the Dark Ocean?
i think it will be beater if Tai's kid was the leader now.becaus Tai was the leader of the original digidestiend.what do u guys think?
don't you get nemebr one rule if digimon the ledner his to be goggle head tk kid is no gogogle head
Tai is still the leader in Digimon Tri and I love him since the first meet in Digimon 01 he is still selfless as hell 😍
Agreed. The first arc with the Digimon Emperor were very well writen and I loved Ken's development. After that all was rushed and all was a shit
Good points, I wanted to see more of Dagomon and the Dark Ocean.
This is one of the most insulting and most garbage endings I've ever seen
No wonder they rebooted the adventure series cuz this ending was terrible
Explain
@@Bell_Matt Probably the Taiora thing. At least that's only slightly the case for me. The other is how most of the careers the Digidestined all got just didn't really make sense. My reply already picked apart Matt's, Sora's and Joe's. Another one I don't get is how Davis ended up going from kid who saved the world to owner of a noodle shop. I don't even remember him saying thing one about wanting to own a noodle shop or him even taking cooking lessons.
I agree and who's to say quite a few people in the real world won't view Digimon the same way the Friends of Humanity from X Men view mutants.
How convinient that the kids have same digimons as their parents.
Kari could be like the goddess hestia
So how does this connects to "Digimon last evolution" when Tai and Matt lost forever their digimons?
My sentiments exactly. That movie left an empty pit in my gut with no clear resolution that connects that film to here.
Between this and kizuna are 17 years(Tais in kizuna is 22 and her 39 according to wiki). Thats a long time to put in storys to anwser questions. In the end its gonna be like a "they were never realy gone" or a gods help thing or something like that
