Fun fact about Horizons since there was so much unused vertical space they wanted to put in a restaurant above the ride .
The more I see and hear of Epcot in the past, the more I realize it was honestly it was more aesthetically connected to the 1970s than it was to the 1980s, which makes sense cause that’s when it was developed.
Yep. Anything that is intended to have a family friendly broad based appeal is going to be, by default, a little bit of a throwback. Anything fitting that description coming out in the early 1980s was something like "Hallmark and Lite FM with a slight touch of disco".

I Have Been Hearing from so Many Disney Fans How They Miss Horizons! It is one of my Most Missed Disney Parks Attractions even though I Wasn't Born When This Ride was Around.

Sometimes, I feel like I should walk outside at night or, at the earliest, just before sunset and play this as I look out at the night life-the lights, the sky, etc.-and imagine how life has changed us, is changing us, or is going to change us. This has such a deep meaning hidden inside it, it seems to inspire us to look forward to a brighter future. If we can dream it, then we can do it. Yes we can. The road ahead may seem rough, but if you look beyond the bad, you will find the good!
Thanks to youtube we can still experience this old classic! By far my favorite OG Epcot attraction.

Even though I never got to ride it, Horizons will always be my favorite ride at Epcot. From all the videos that I have seen of it, It looks like it was an amazing ride
These Horizons loops have both served as the best studying music in the world and as a great way to just relax and dream of returning to Epcot again...thanks JPL.

Love this photo how it shows the imagination and inspiration old Epcot provided. NO reference to any movie!!! Back then, I always came home from Disney World so inspired with new thoughts.

Ahhhh...the good old days.
Yet another awesome ride that the Disney messed up on. when then replaced it with a ride that is so inferior. Thanks to people like you that remind us all, just how Brilliant Disney used to be. The great movies ride is now a thing of the Past . I suppose we have Star Wars ????? a joke.
Unfortunately they really had no choice when it came to the demolition of Horizons. General Electric pulled out early, and when the attraction desperately needed maintenance, nobody was there to fund it. They had to find a new sponser and that led to starting from scratch.
@@jupiter9099 - It's too bad they couldn't find a sponsor to re-purpose Horizons a bit rather than Mission Space. I like the Mission Space queue but the ride is so disappointing.
Agreed. I think what's hard for me to understand is how Disney allowed Epcot to become a shell of itself today, even with this overhaul. I watched the Coursel of Progress the other day and was awe stricken. I felt happy but sad thinking that epcot was filled with top tier attractions that were decimated and replaced with inferior attractions. I am glad mission space exists but it should have never replaced horizons.

Future world was amazing in January 1983; just inspiring. The original incarnation was the best, and Horizons exemplified that (still remember the Dragline bucket displayed in Communicor East though without irony; ti 49:06 mes have really changed I guess).

I have these incredible dreams about horizons. Like it’s some super powerful space ship. And I’m either on a crazy life or death quest to get inside of the pavilion or I’m inside trying to board and it’s like being on a scary powerful spaceship.

Did Star Tours open after Horizons closed? I know it fits the ST theme, but interesting they would develop almost the exact same type of destination board for the ST queue.
