    Fun fact:, 4 ^ 100th power would be ... a 25-byte integer. It would also end in a 6.
Part of the brilliance of the Golden Path is how it would be practically unsolvable without the misaligned printing on page 22, and the coffee stains on page 40.
Now there is one more secret (one which _doesn't_ require translating the runes or intensive puzzling!) left that you can find: in the Overworld, somewhere not far from the hero's house is a hidden stairway to a secret room with something cool in it. Closely inspecting the map, and/or tilting the camera may help you find the entrance.

So in the ending, it looked like the foxy mam- er, the Heir opened to a pretty early page; my intial thought is they opened it to the backstory bits about how the "power to defy death" and "an evil power rises" and something about the mourning and memories of that... made them... uhhh idk LOL. I don't understand it but it made my heart strings tug that's for sure.

I think the original heir is dead and the fox they saved was the original hero. Giving it the book might have caused it to remember who they originally were, breaking the curse.

This is my headcanon for Tunic:
The game has metacommentary as part of its in-world canon. There are several places hinting that the game world itself is in fact a video game, with the lines between main character and player being blurred. The player is the character and the character is the player; ie, Tunic the Fox is also you the player.
The game manual has clearly been owned before by someone who loved the game; whoever it was clearly spent a LOT of time and energy on it when they were younger, to the point where they even went to the trouble of translating the language. That takes a lot of dedication. I think the owner of the manual was The Heir, who had outgrown the game and had given it (and the manual) to their child or sibling, eventually forgetting about it after it had been part of their life for so long, as adulthood is busy, and childish things are put aside. So now, you are The Heir to The Heir, the child/sibling of the older fox, and you have now spent lots of time and effort of your own on a game that you love now, too, since you took the time to decode so many secrets so you could finish the game.
You giving the completed manual to The Heir represents you passing them back the game they loved so much when they were younger, reminding them of all the hours they spent in loving obsession with it. That's why The Heir cried upon the reminder of their beloved younger years.
Tunic really is a love letter to the games of one's childhood. Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda and all the other 8-bit and 16-bit games that so many adults played as kids, and every part of the game hearkens back to that nostalgia, even the ending.

    • @Nat_the_Chicken
      @Nat_the_Chicken Місяць тому +1

@@Lycanthromancer1 Yep, agreed on pretty much all of this. I even speculated that the Shadow Oubliette (the Heir's icosahedral prison) is a metaphor for adulthood and responsibility, and the Heir boss fight is a metaphor for generational disconnect and conflict of values, with a common passion and attempt at understanding (wisdom) needed to bridge that gap.

The other small secrets are really hard (you have to translate everything). I would love to see you guys react to a vid about it, but there isn’t a really good vid about translating as well as solving all the other small things (I think playframe did the best job where he did translate everything and his though process is great to see, so I recommend that, it’s like his long tunic episode called I can read or something similar). Good job!

Loved this game a lot, it amazed me how it went from a Zelda adjacent action adventure and then rapidly shifted into a serious puzzle game where you have to really pay attention to find everything necessary to complete it. And it's been a blast seeing you two go through it as well. It's always fun to see peoples reactions to the puzzles evolving right in front of them and finding out so many things the game lets you do form the start, but just doesn't tell you until it's appropriate. Great showing guys!

So, of the two missing treasure pieces, one of them is the first page puzzle, which is the only one that requires you to understand the script; the second on is available to you. Otherwise, there's one small hidden room in the overworld that's just for fun. If you guys feel like doing a bonus episode, I'd be down for seeing you guys just downloading a translated PDF of the booklet and going through it.

One: Check the monastery page. Two: Check the Translation of the Booklet. Three: (this is the wildest one!) Figure out the secret of the final page of the booklet.

    GOLDEN PATH LET'S GOOOO!!!!!
Watching you repeat the entry direction each page, I hope you're marking out what's on what page to make those repeats easier to cut out in future...
For Ian's desire to read the instruction booklet, I know I've seen a version or two of images of the pages with English text edited it. Would be easy enough to search out if you wanted to, I'd imagine.
It's always so cool to see people as delighted at the Golden Path as I was =)
Editing Ian forgot to put Caseys image in =(
Also can I just say the music on the mountaintop screen is just so beautiful? That screen was where I sat for a combined total of somewhere over 20 hours doing a full language learning and translating the entire booklet, just so I could listen to it longer.
Yeah, no, the secret message in the letter is one of the few puzzles that actually requires translation to get.
I absolutely love this ending. Especially after the default credits, where all the scenes are empty rooms, seeing your fox and their parent/sibling/friend/foxy mama together happy is just so delightful. Great work, everyone who made this game. And thank you, Ian and Casey, for sharing your TUNIC experience with all of us!
