  • In my life, I've given up long, restful days of open space for busy, jam-packed days of action and inevitable exhaustion, only to return back to the former, and though it can get tiresome and it's hard to notice, let me tell you - there's beauty to be seen in every single second of it. Of your life, of mine, no matter how busy or how sparse it gets.
This is my most expressive domino video yet. Not only is the whole concept of this video something that reflects my state of mind, but I feel that the setups themselves really illustrate my thoughts, emotions, and memories through a labyrinth of colourful patterns and designs. I focussed a lot more on self-expression in this video, and I feel that these are my most well thought out setups with the most natural pacing and flow I've ever achieved. I encourage all of you, when you are building your own chain reactions (or any other form of art), consider how you can really put your feelings into what you are creating - it makes all the difference and you will be rewarded with something that you truly feel represents you.
An enormous thank you to Flash Domino for collaborating with me on this project, I think this is my best video yet and I wouldn't have been able to do it without you, you are so amazing and thank you for everything you do (He also did the editing - look at those slick af transitions, mmmmMM)

Recently, I’ve been thinking about domino art in a different way… in a more artistic, self-expressive way than I used to think about it. This video perfectly sums up how I want domino art to be treated. It’s not just blowing away the viewer with an incredibly innovative trick or structure. It’s not just pleasing the viewer with a beautiful color combination. It’s so much more than that. Dominoes are an art form… and I don’t think there are that many videos out there that treat it as one. This video, however, was one of the few that I truly felt treated dominoes like a true art form. From watching every single project in this video, I can so easily tell that each individual project really meant something to you guys. I can tell how much freedom you two gave yourselves with every little decision for each individual section in these projects to do what you truly wanted to do. Not a single detail in any of the projects felt like it had too much thought put into it, and that’s what makes this video so special.
Every project in this video is a masterpiece, so I thought I’d write what I have to say about each one, since they’re all such beauties and play such essential roles in making the video what it is.
    The 1,000 Dominoes clip:
To me, this setup feels like a really warm welcome into the video. Just a couple cute little tricks and some pleasant designs. Also everything about this setup is so you. The mixed color palette, the little split offs, the way that machine elements are incorporated, and of course Turtwig… everything in this setup reminds me so much of Flash Domino. And that’s why I love it.
    The 2,000 Dominoes clip:
Conrad I know that you were really worried going into this setup that it wouldn’t turn out great because it’s so much less compact than your typical style, but you nailed it, and it’s so beautiful to see… it shows that compactness doesn’t necessarily define your style of building. Of course it’s one of the most important aspects of your style, but… it doesn’t really define it. What defines it is your joyful use of colors and all of your little free-style tricks and designs that you put into your setups. I’m really proud of you for pulling this off so well and proving that your style doesn’t revolve around compactness.
    The 3,000 Dominoes clip:
I like looking at this setup as two really close friends that have created an unbreakable bond, because this setup has two different sides with different color palettes but they still so nicely interact with each other. It also kinda looks like they’re facing each other 🥰 it’s really cute and the setup is really nicely built. :)
    The 4,000 Dominoes clip:
Conrad you’re absolutely killing it with this really artistic style. I love seeing your take on it. There’s something about this setup that just feels so genuine to me. I think it’s that you didn’t overdo anything. Nothing is screaming in your face in this setup. They’re just pleasantly introducing you into their world. I really love how simplistic this setup is - it works great for an artistic style. And of course that city-landscape thing was really well done!
    The 5,000 Dominoes clip:
Oh my gosh this is just about the most Flash Domino setup I could possibly think of. Everything in this one is just so you, and it’s honestly really refreshing to see, since we haven’t seen a lot of good ol Flash Domino setups recently. It feels like a welcome back type of thing, since it’s been so long since the last setup that’s truly your style. It’s such a beautifully done welcome back, and I feel like this setup has everything that makes your style your style. Thank you for reminding me of the beauty of Flash Domino.
    The 6,000 Dominoes clip:
This setup is everything. I literally mean everything. I really feel like I can see the entire progression of you as a domino builder, all in this one setup. I can see the old officialsillypoo from 2016/2017 in this setup, with videos like compact colors or the finale of domino rally 14, while at the same time, it shows me how unbelievably much you’ve developed since then. Not even just your building style, but you as a person as well. It’s so heart-warming to watch this setup and think about how much you have progressed over the years, and what amazing things you have become. Thank you for reminding me of that.
Honestly, I don’t even think that the clip-by-clip analysis was enough for me to express how this video makes me feel. I guess all I have to say is thank you. Thank you for making this video that literally had me in tears, and thank you for making such an incredible impact on the community. Both of you have completely transformed the shape of the domino community with your compact and incredibly fun to watch styles. If either of you are ever having a really bad day and don’t feel like you’re worth it, just remember that you two have made some incredible things and are two incredible people. I’m so happy that I’ve gotten to know both of you so well. Take care :)

THIS WAS INCREDIBLE! You and Flash have mastered the act of filling little spaces with as many dominoes as you can, while also incorporating risky tricks and very eye-catching designs, instead of just regular domino lines that are super close together. The elevation changes are something that I really appreciate as well. There were also many examples of unexpected multi-use elements used in these projects, a couple being the platform swinging into the dominoes at the start of the 5000 domino setup, and the small wooden staircase falling over in the 6000 domino setup. This video will hopefully be a great inspiration for a lot of builders, because it certainly will be for me. I also noticed the title of the video is inspired from QBNDT’s “These Projects Become Progressively More Stupid” which is something I found funny.

Awesome video! Great to see you not only back in action, but also two of my favorite domino builders working together! Although the challenge of compact spaces is nothing new for you, I was impressed by the level of ingenuity reflected throughout your setups (as always). The tricks at 2:09, 4:38, and 4:52 were remarkable, not to mention that many of the other domino tricks and structures throughout the video were also pretty sweet (I also really liked the color combination at 2:38). Also, you are insane for putting that bounce at 4:50 in a domino setup. I've always loved how distinguishable your setups are from other domino builders, and this video is no exception. Looking forward to seeing what you do for 11BC3!
(Ik there are more than 11 builders this time but I'm still calling it 11BC3).

How do you edit out the breaks in the setup so well, especially with a handheld camera? Even though the fails are noticeable, the setup still feels smooth and barely interrupted.

    • @OfficialSillypooDominoes17
      @OfficialSillypooDominoes17  4 роки тому

Yeah that was Alex who did the editing! I experimented with staying at as similar of an angle as possible, and then we’d try to line up the frames from before and after the break the best we could (this included doing a cut mid-launch at the end of the 2K setup) we felt that for a video like this having a smooth flow was important, and didn’t want to have any potentially awkward and unnecessary camera angle switches to not sacrifice the fluidity of the whole video

This is spectacular. I'm blown away. I really appreciate the compactness of the whole project, and you guys really showed that even if your building space is small, you can have a cohesive and large setup. Your color combinations are flawless and the layouts of the setups are extremely well designed. Also, you edit out the fails really well.

Your awesome, I do trickshots to too, if you want to see. I consider dominos as trickshots because they are awesome!! They’re so hard to set up I’ll give you full credit for those actually awesome! It takes so much patience because if you mess up ones then everything goes now! That’s happened to me so many times and it drives me crazy!

You express yourself well, both in writing and in dominoes. You see the beauty in life and in return, I see the beauty in what you create. And believe me, I love it!
The 2000 domino setup was entertaining, engaging, and stimulating - there was always some unorthodox motion or path coming up, something interesting to look forward to, as the dominoes danced towards the finale (and what a FLIP!). It was already a solid start, and boy did it get me hyped...
The 4000 domino setup had a nice balance! There were parallel showcases of a single trick type, clever transitions using string, and a very nice non-linear path owing in part to clever use of elevation -- all things I like to see in a domino setup! The back and forth in front of the domino wall (2:32 and 2:37 too!) was very pleasing to watch, and the "Twig" and "FD" in the pillars were a nice touch.
As for the 6000 domino setup. The pathing was _next level._ There is little I can compare this to, besides your other work. It's non-linearity, a concept I first fell in love with in Toothpaste35 machines, taken to a level far beyond anything I could imagine, and in a _domino setup_, not a machine. The clever transitions through structures, with bounces, with collapsing structures, and with large moving objects helped make this a reality, and the end result is truly phenomenal. This domino setup was engaging, it was mystifying, and it blew my mind. It is truly better designed and more thoroughly planned than most machines, let alone other domino setups. I'm not even going to name specific tricks. It's just the entire thing, dude. There were so many little motions that were so aesthetic, back-and-forths or up-and-downs or down-and-acrosses, and the sum of these parts was so captivating. In the setups you build, the placement of every single domino truly does matter.
    Amazing!
