For all the money it cost me,for all the lost nights, for all the jobs I lost, for all the debt I was in, I'd do it all again in a heartbeat given the chance.
Ahhh damn! Started in 1994 - It was total crap, the whole time i was like "Man, i sure do wish i was born six years earlier" don't know why i bothered.
I was only 10-14 in those years so missed it by a hair's breadth. I remember watching documentaries in channel 4 about the "dangers of warehouse raves" when I was about 12 and thinking I would absolutely love to go to one of those! 97 onwards was my raving scene and it was exciting enough, the London acid techno scene was killing it in those years but I always felt like I was born about 8 years too late
Love sweet harmony - I remember when I was 18, sat in a random blokes garage, with loads of people, smoke machine going, and then my best mate with me and all these tunes. No phones, massive speakers, huge tracks and my mates just together. Hard to express in words, but good memories. Thanks for taking me back.
No phones... gee, that was better in some ways wasn't it!? I remember my first house party that introduced me to DnB. I was 15, completely enamoured by the DJ and gushing so much he tried to beat me with his crutches because I was a bit intense with the demand for knowledge of the genre (thought I was taking the piss). Ironically that tune was Bad Company - The Nine. Nowadays, young fellas be on the phone too much to appreciate or know that DJ's mixed with vinyl and without computers. That one moment of chance set free something I didn't even know existed seconds before. Goosebumps by music, those who know, know and I'm certain everyone reading this comment can understand that feeling.
Lol - we are all 50s now Hardcore is still the main music I listen to . During the late 80s and 90s - I had loads of live rave tapes ( still got my tape collection) . This was before the " tape packs" cameout . You got the tape from a friend , then you gave it to someone else . Alot of the tapes got chewed up over the years . I still have a mini-disk player ( they were pretty good at the time ) ...I was trying to covert the tapes to mini-disk in the 90s . I have loads of radio sets as well from late 80s/90s . Friday night 12pm ( I think ) till the ams was the " capital rap show , It was brilliant . For rave everyone knew a guy or group of guys who hung around a independent ( rave ) record shop . They used to pump mixes out and you eventually got your hands on them , if you didn't know them directly . Radio 1 didn't catch up for years- kiss fm was OK in the early days and loads of pirate stations. All my mates had 15" and 18" speakers in their bedrooms with decks . MAPLINS used to sell speakers and " jamo" speakers from a electrical shop called TANDY . I actaully still own a 12" Jamo speaker from the early 90s that still works perfectly. A kenwood amp from dixons , I blew my first weeks wages on , still works perfectly . I wish I kept all the flyers for the raves from the beginning. They were alot better in the beginning = more graffiti artwork . As we were just coming out of the tagging era Good days but I over done it I think
All top tunes but sweet harmony just sums it up for me. Started raving in 89 at 16years old and raved for 10 years straight . Got to say this is absolutely bloody brilliant. I’m 53 now and I am happy to say that I was there for the start of this music movement. Kelly’s in portrush was my home and a guy called Chris Hurley was the original dj. He had that place rocking every weekend. This mix takes me right back. Well done and keep it up.
