I use skateboarding for my own reasons and test myself in similar manner. My own pace and challenge. You do you

I love that about skating, there's so much to mess around with and I'm never quite sure what's going to be easier or harder to pick up. It makes for some pleasant surprises, and it's never boring.

weird that some folks would complain to you about "promoting not progressing".
I think thats actually a rather healthy mindset to have.
from my own skate journey I can tell that I am basically always progressing no matter what, so long as I am skating.
skateboarding should be fun and a way to express yourself.
think of it: in other arts, like painting, are we arguing that you should only paint if you constantly try to reach higher levels of mastery?
is it a waste of time and ressources to not aim for the heavens?
why is it that some people think that way?
what does it change for them if not everyone is thinking the same way?
I say try new things at your own leasure, don't let anyone tell you that you can't, but also don't let them tell you that you must.
as for me I definetely enjoy pushing myself and learning new stuff, but at a moderate pace, even though I'm 37 already, I don't feel like I'm in a rush to learn specific things.
maybe I dislike this notion of "pushing yourself to improve everytime no matter what", because it reminds me of a capitalist mindset of permanent growth: if it's not visibly growing, it's declining and thats bad. I despise capitalism, as should perhaps anyone who isn't rich and can't afford in the future to have their oxygen hand delivered to them by amazon, while most other people suffocate or drown.
anyway, I tend to encounter pressure of some kind very often in skateboarding communities and I consciously work to resolve it.
they say skateboarding is about freedom, if so then stop pushing people around until they meet your idea of "freedom". *
PS: I don't mean you sarah btw.

I thought it was odd too haha But, all I can do is get better at expressing myself and thoughts. I also like to skate "at my own pace" and sometimes that involves slowing down some visible progress. Other times it's pursuing it. I'm happy as long as I'm getting out and skating 😃 The magic is always on the board for me 💪 I'm glad you're also in a good headspace for yourself--determined by you, for you. That's awesome 😃

You make some great points. Myself being over 40 I still love to try new things, but I have to use common sense. Not hurting myself to the point I can't work is something I have to think about. That's what so great about skateboarding. There are no rules on how you spend your time on your board. This afternoon I may just cruise around the neighborhood, feeling the warm weather.

Your ”4% rule” is still my guiding star when I skate. For me it’s the most healthy and sustainable balance of progression. For others it might be different, but so be it 🤷‍♂️ You’re killing it on the transition btw! 💪 Would love to see an axle stall tutorial from you, both bs and fs. And nose slides.. just can’t figure our how to positon my body 😬 They way you break things down and explain them is truly a gift. Much appreciated 🙏😊

Yes! I still think about that too, though it's a bit more instinctual now. What's just above my level but attainable 💪 And sure thing! I'd like to make one sometime as I get better. Once I can do a couple in a row confidently, I'll probably feel good about making one 😃

Great stuff. Pushing yourself and trying new things on the board is so individual. The way I push myself is different than you which is different from another skater. Progress is interesting too. It can come slowly, go backwards, or leap forward in a blur. As long as you’re having fun on the board and doing your thing, nothing else really matters.

Looked like you were definitely starting to get it at the end! I just started in July, then when it got cold here I found out pretty quick I wasn't a fan of getting bodied on concrete in the cold haha. So I just decided to focus on fundamentals and board feel until spring, and I'm glad I did. I feel so much more through my feet now and I'm more aware of my alignment with the board. I plan on skating forever, so what's the rush.

    • @SarahParkMatott

that's awesome! I love those moments when you start to feel the progress all of a sudden 😃 and cheers to that. Let's skate forever!

Leaving the confort zone is almost mandatory in skating I guess.
At least it is how I feel. Still learning and improving the basics i.e. getting confortable with the board.
However I skate mostly at home and I am hitting a plateau right now as I do not have enough space to get further with these.
So I'm on learning manuals, ollie, getting more shove it.
As you showed here, trying different things will lead to master the other skills.
Such as the flea that forget that it can jump higher than the ceiling of the box it is in.

I am excited because I am about to receive my first freestyle board. I wanted to thank you and Mike Osterman for your help in getting me this board. I have noticed that you have been making various videos about skating obstacles, but I also have a street board, so I am looking forward to the content that you will be creating for that as well.

ah that's super exciting! I hope you get to enjoy your new freestyle board as much as I enjoyed my first one 😃 I'm hoping to diversify my skateboard videos a little more as the weather clears up and I'll have more sunny days to film outside!

Ackshually fs axle stall switch drop in as you're turning back in on your front truck which is definitely not easy, I can't do either!

Front side axle stall to fakie was amazing! Front side still scares me... And going back in fakie is also still pretty scary to me. Your transition is getting good! I'm still so 💩 at it even though i try to practice. Even my regular axle stalls are still not great!!

    • @SarahParkMatott
      @SarahParkMatott  3 місяці тому +1

ah, thank you! I'm not sure why, but front side doesn't scare me any more than back side on transition. Coming back to fakie was pretty much blind faith and a little luck though 😂 And I've seen your clips! Your transition is going great 💪 Motivates me every time I see it!

I follow you from Brazil and I've been starting skateboarding for 1 month, your tips have helped a lot, great teaching! Unfortunately in the last session I sprained my ankle, so I'll be out for a few days :/ But thank you and keep going!

Whaaaaaat...axle stall to fakie drop ins. The frontside one looks tough because it's a blindside re entry. Front pop fake on the bank was nicely popped. Hella sick!!!

I have that same 7.75 real true fit deck, but you use it as a street deck and I use it for freestyle.

I do have the powell nano cubics on it, so I can do a little freestyle sometimes haha It's so small, it's hard not to be tempted 🙈 but it's definitely a street board for me

@@SarahParkMatott you got to combine the freestyle tricks with street skating like Rodney or all those Japan kids who are so talented!
