When I see these behaviours in the animal world, I always think of the youngsters who want to abolish certain human rituals in dating. Like they hate it when a man holds the door open for a woman or they don't want a man to pay for the restaurant bill etc.
Little do they realise that rituals like that aren't sexist but they serve a massive role in making females interested in a guy. Some women abuse this [those you don't want to marry anyways], but then this bird lady said 'no' after getting a juicy worm too.
The more persistent the male [not giving up so easily], the more he shows he has the patience, is serious about her and doesn't give up easily [no creepy stalking though]. Which is someone you want a family with. That's how it goes. Imagine a guy who is rude to women, makes them pay for their own food and then shrugs his shoulders [and finds another one] if you say 'no'. That guy will run at the first problem and won't care one iota.
