I recognize that this comment is from a while ago, but you may be interested in the Deaf West revival of Spring Awakening- there's several bootlegs on UA-cam, and it's performed simultaneously in English and ASL. The same group also did Big River, Pippin, and Oliver in the same fashion. More recently, there was also a performance of The Hunchback of Notre Dame in which the main character is played by a deaf actor!
That's unfortunate. We interpreters (I've been interpreting for 30 years) should never "steal the show" or focus, although of course it's hard for people NOT to be enamored with us. We should blend in with the show, not steal focus. :)
Can you please enable captions on this video? I teach deaf/hard of hearing kids and I would like to have words, speech and signing so that I can reach all of my levels of learners. Thank you!
Like any language, when translating the words what you are really translating is the concepts and what it means, so while not every english word is translated into a sign, every concept/meaning is/was conveyed. And as an interpreter you have to keep in mind that ASL and english sentences sometimes take much more or less explaining to say the same thing, taking more or less time, yet you have to keep the signs in time with the music, so sometimes small changes are made.
Sign language is very visual. There’s no need to sign every exact word in English. For example, “swap the water and the bread on the table” can be interpreted to “on table, water, bread, swap”
This was an awesome show and the interpreters did an amazing job!

I loved how they signed "something that wasn't there before" as a heart growing
I Love How They Signed "Something That
Wasn't There Before" As A Beart Growing
These interpreters are FABULOUS.
These Interpreters Are FABULOUS.
Their signing was so smooth and crisp it looked it like it sped up at some points! Very impressive work!
This makes me want a whole production in asl. Like not translation, but the actors are signing instead of speaking.

The ASL interpreters definitely steal the show every time they appear!

6:00 omg how he plays gaston is hilarious 😂💌
Oh my gosh. I’ve seen the show in person and I love the ASL version. I cried just as much at the end when I saw this one.
I love this!!! I'm a beginner in ASL and this was incredibly helpful... love their style, too!
WOW! Just WOW!
People have no idea how long I takes to learn all of this.. A LONG TIME..
Dancing Hands this is only like 1 show out of 20 in the whole place. Imagine learning all. =0
It does help that the company scripts everything ...to keep it all the same from translator to translator
It’s only after 4 min in that you realize there’s a live show behind them.
Such incredible memories! This was amazing! 🤗
Wow you could of not ask for better ASL interpreters, they where very good, They had good facial expression while there where singing ASL.

Sometimes closed captions have to be manually added, so it might be hard for them to be able to do that
Terrific interpreters
disappointed they didn't do the entire "Tale As Old As Time" song in ASL....
AMAZING !
Thank you for sharing :)
I need to learn two more languages))) English and ASL. Now I know some English, Russian, Russian Sign Language.

Who were the people doing the ASL?
Question. I don't know asl but I could tell they didn't actually interpret all the words. Why didn't they?
