He betrayed Spongebob for what he thought was the easy way out, but in reality, he is dooming himself to a life of guilt and crime.
I at first hoped that when plankton said that he didn’t give him the gun, it was a sign that what Spongebob saw wasn’t reality and that he was going crazy, where someone else gave him that gun but in the state Spongebob was in he thought it was Plankton, which then would mean another character would possibly avenge him.
Personally I think Plankton had a plan to give SpongeBob the means to kill Squidward so Plankton could take over his empire. He was playing both sides to see who would come out on top. If SpongeBob won, Plankton would have taken over Vice city, but now he has to wait until the next opportunity to kill Squidward appears.
I genuinely like the story in this one, I like the fact that he was hallucinating about patrick, while using coke, this is one of the saddest downfalls in meme history
SpongeBob son then became the adopted son of plankton, since squidward didn't want him plankton took him in out of pity. SpongeBob's son then became the next giorno and swore to destroy and repurpose the mafia when the time came and he had harness the full power of Golden Meme REEquiem.

Martin Scorsese could only hope to make such an intimate, personal and emotional story such as this. I can't wait for the finale of this amazing trilogy.
Watching this again, I feel like that despite his betrayal, Plankton wants nothing but the best for Spongebob. It's entirely possible that Squidward's guys did get to Plankton first, but rather than fight, they struck a deal with him, yet despite this Plankton still called to warn Spongebob of the impending hit placed him too. Next, while Plankton doesn't get involved with the Gunfight at Sponge's place he does arrive moments after to pull Spongebob together and tries to convince him to leave the city; However when Sponge declines, needing to save his son, Plankton gives Sponge his gun (something that he later denies to keep up his facade in front of Squidward). Perhaps he might even redeem himself and save Sponge's Son later down the line. We'll see.

The whole atmosphere, created by the soundtrack, voices and animation gave me emotional highs and lows like just few things did in the last weeks I feel like thats what happens, when one puts vice city, breaking bad, a scarface montage and spongebob shitposting into a bowl, puts a pound of psychodellics on it and eats it while watching narcos
