Hi all! I filmed this days and days ago when I was hopeful that I’d get my laptop back soon. That was not the case. Most of the information is relevant except that I’m no longer sick and we’ve purchased a new computer.
Some have asked how my family and I have faired through Hurricane Helene and we’re all safe and well. Thank you for reaching out! I appreciate you!
So glad to know you all are okay! 💚
Thank goodness you are all safe. 💙❤️💚
Hi Shelly -- I just picked up Maria this past week while traveling -- I had my eye out for it, as I too loved The Sound of Music! Thanks for the Sara Donati new release mention - haven't seen it yet. My goodness - do I recommend her Into the Wilderness series ALL THE TIME! 😊 I'm thinking I need to re-read them - loved them that much. Such good story writing -- much like the very long series by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles, The Morland Dynasty. I think you'd like this long family saga as well.
Wonderful! I’m hoping to start Maria sooner rather than later. ❤️❤️
Recently read The Heart in Winter, initially once I got started i was unsure of the novel and the authors style, but it very, very quickly grew on me and I thoroughly enjoyed the book, highly recommended!
Great! Thank you!
❤📚❤️ I added The Sweet Blue Distance to my list. Thanks!
Also, when you started singing/yodeling, it made my day! 😅 Maria also added!
Awe! Thank you, Starla!
The Women was the best book I have read this year!
Oh! That’s good news!
Try The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier. I've enjoyed all of her works and this is my favorite
Thank you!!
Just FYI, Maria Von Trapp was a real person. Her memoir was the basis for the movie.
Glad you escaped the worst of Helene. The death toll and devastation are horrible!!
Oh! That’s wonderful about Maria! Thank you!
Thanks for the recs. Several sound interesting. The Women is awesome. Agree with another poster to recommend Nightengale to you.
Thank you!!!
Thank you Shelley!
You are so welcome!
I'm in the minority, i know, in that i didnt love The Women. I like Kristin Hannah, just was disappointed in The Women. The war part was good, but thats it for me. I finished it, but might be done with Kristin Hannah. 🤷♀️ Thank you for the recommendations!
The Women was my first Kristin Hannah and I felt the same way. I couldn’t believe that the war ending and there was so much book left. Also, a couple of unbelievable events towards the end, if you know what I mean
That's great feedback! Thanks for sharing!
@@suzannedavies7996 I agree with you both on the women.
I agree as well. I've loved Kristin Hannah books but not that one. First half, great! Second half not so much. And yes, the unbelievable circumstances toward the end were quite eye rolling for me.
I’m so glad you’re safe and sound. I’ve read The Glassmaker, it’s classic Chevalier, this time with her beautiful crafted descriptions of Murano glassmaking. Her characters are well developed and the storyline draws you in but her play with the timeline just didn’t work for me sadly. Have just started Enlightenment by Sarah Perry.
Oh thank you!
I read The Women this year and enjoyed it. I really like her writing.
Good to know!
The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon is a historical fiction about a real life midwife. It takes place in the 18th century in Maine. it has great character work..
Added it to my list! Thank you!
I love Tracy Chevalier. I recommend "The Lady and the Unicorn" and "Falling Angels"
THANK YOU!
Long Island is great, but you really need to read Brooklyn first (I also really loved Brooklyn). Neither book is especially long, so they go down easily, but they are beautifully written.
Good to know! Thanks, Melinda!
Congratulations on 15k. You must read The Nightingale. It is an all time favorite! Jodi Picoult is not for me. I just read James and thought it was great I liked The Trees better. I read all of Tracy Chevalier’s books. It is great to know she has a new book. I just ordered it from the library What a great video!
PS A Single Thread and Remarkable Creatures are all time favorites of Tracy Chevalier’s work. She writes so many different kinds of stories. Don’t give up on her. You will be missing a great author!
Oh thank you! I appreciate you, Deb.
I read the women and it was uneven and somewhat soap operaish, I was entertained but nothing more. It was my first Kristin Hannah novel, so I will try the nightingale before I decide on the author. I just bought By any other name, never read anything by Jodi Picoult, but am always excited to read an historical novel. It's my second favourite genre after classics.
OH, that's great to know! Thank you!
Yay! 2024 has been strong for Historical Fiction.
So true!!
Finding Margaret Fuller was a really great book! It’s fun to learn about the famous characters in a new way, and get to know Margaret.
Thanks for letting me know!
📚
Anyone who likes By Any Other Name should check out The Instrumentalist. Similar books, both great.
Thank you!!
The Women I put down after a couple of chapters. Not a DNF just not in the right mood for it. I read The Glassmaker and thought it was fab - it is the same character that lives from start to finish by skipping to key periods in Venice history - I was skeptical but it works. I would like to read the latest Jodi Picoult book (enjoyed The Storyteller) but some of her others have not interested me to pick them up.
Thanks for letting me know about The Women and The Glassmaker. That’s so helpful! ☺️
The authors you are avoiding are some of the best writers of stories about what it means to be a human. They are amazing. You seem to have a lot of books that you don’t like.
I’ve just been busy with other authors. There are so many great writers out there.
Maria von Trapp was not a fictional character! Maybe I misunderstood you.
I didn’t realize Maria was a real person. 🫣
Tracy Chevalier = Shuh vaa lyay. Jodi Picoult = pico as in pico de gallo. 😊
Thank you!!!
Maria Von Trapp was a real person. The movie was based on a true story.
Miss the one piece content. Move past G8 if you have to it’s not really cannon anyway. Miss you!!
Thanks for letting me know. ☺️☺️
heart in winter started well but deteriorated. at the most exciting part the author stopped writing? the main characters were not fully developed either. it was, for me, a missed opportunity.
Oh! Fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
