Unjustified aggression should not be rewarded, Ukraine should have territory returned before sitting down to peace notations. Putin needs to agree to unconditional surrender. To compensate Ukraine for its unjustified aggression Russia gives Ukraine territory bordering the Black Sea.

Everything hangs on all parties agreeing to the rules. We all know that at times rules are bent and skewed and the refs often look the other way or are bought. But when ine side has completely thrown out the rules that they previously agreed to and all who are charged with enforcing those rules are scared, then the victory goes to the side who lied and cheated and is unethical.
Worse than that they turn those rules back on us and some of us believe that's the right thing to do. How can it be right when the end result is anarchy?
Right now we are seeing the result of our response. Is it successful or is it making it worse?

Although I think it was clear early on that Russia would still be deeply corrupt and relations would still be frosty, it wasn't until more recently that it was clear just how adversarial and aggressive Russia was going to be towards the West. This is largely been the result of Putin's ego and grand ambition to restore Russia to it's for.er glory.

Others with more knowledge about the legalities and ramifications have explained why his reasoning is flawed. Let me say that speaking to Bill Browder on the subject is a better idea. In his book he lays out clearly the corruption and mafia style manner in which this money was obtained.
At a more basic level putin has utilised Western banking systems and the corruptible nature of humans to build up funds with which to harm Western democracies. Take the money now.
