Gordon is my favorite singer songwriter of all time..This song epitomizes the quality of both his writing and his delivery....A masterpiece maker....Bravo Gord...Rest in peace...
"I can't think of any Gordon Lightfoot song I don't like. Everytime I hear a song of his, it's like I wish it would last forever." - Bob Dylan. Kudos H., for being the first to react to this gem.
We lost our beautiful Gordon on May 1st, 2023. Our entire country and many around the world are heartbroken and forever grateful for this man. I will travelling tomorrow to Orillia Ontario to say my final farewell and 'Thank you" to him. A legend and a genius and humble kind man. 💜 Godspeed Gordon. Thank you Harry.
There is no such thing as a bad Gordon Lightfoot song!. One of my favorite songs of his is "Song for A Winter's Night". It is a love song that touches one's soul. It still brings me to tears! I enjoy watching your reaction videos and look forward to seeing more.
Song for a Winter's Night is one of Lightfoot's best compositions, and he wrote it during a hot summer night in Cleveland. I prefer his original recording from his United Artists days compared to the Gord's Gold compilation.
My FAVORITE Gordon Lightfoot song!!! I have his greatest hits album, and the entire thing is magnificent. What a prolific songwriter he was. I was heartbroken when he passed away.
My late husband chose this song for our wedding song as well. It's a lovely song and when I listen to it I know just how much my darling husband loved me.
Harri, by now you have done quite a few songs by the incomparable Gordon Lightfoot, and, by your comments, I believe you have been impressed by his songwriting/singing abilities. Gordon died Monday, May 1, at the age of 84. You must not have known this because I am sure you would have done a tribute to this great man. Let me suggest to you several of his songs one rarely hears on the reaction channels, of which yours is my favorite. Please use “Rainy Day People”, “Song for a Winter's Night”, or “Early Morning Rain” as a tribute to Mr. Lightfoot. They are all simply wonderful songs, and, I believe, you will think so, too. Thank you for all you do to bring fantastic music to us!
To me he was and is Canada's musical poet laureate. He told stories through the magic of song. His musical gifts brought the whole world oeace and joy. He really hit prominence in the states in music's most magical decade, the 1970s. I always say this, Oh, 🇨🇦!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Chuck in NC
Gordon Lightfoot is a Canadian legend & one of the best singer songwriters. He has had many hits through his long career such as "Early Morning Rain", "Steel Rail Blues", "Ribbon Of Darkness", "If You Could Read My Mind", "Sundown", "Carefree Highway", "Rainy Day People", "Canadian Railroad Trilogy", "Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" & many more. I saw him in concert once.
We attended a Lightfoot concert a couple of weeks ago in his hometown of Orillia, Ontario. When he played this song he dedicated it to a couple in the audience. The husband was 104 years old and his wife somewhat younger... probably a mere 100? That dedication gave this already touching song a whole new depth of feeling.
This is most certainly a beautiful song. And I don't say that lightly. I've been playing guitar for a long time. Since 1976 and at a serious level. This is one of my favorite melodies.
believe it or not- I just discovered/heard this song about a year ago- may be the best song I have ever heard, especially in the "in love' genru of music. Unfortunately, as most of us now know, we lost Gordan this year. But wow- what a song. What a great man.
He is truly One of Canada’s greatest gifts to the world of gorgeous music. I’m so glad I was able to see him live at Symphony Hall in Boston way back in the 1970’s. It was a wonderful show and he is a treasure. Thanks Harri and Michael P 🌺✌️
I love the suggestions listed here, and would like to add “Softly”, an absolutely gorgeous song that you can melt into, and “ Cotton Jenny”, a more upbeat, happy song.
This is the song that tells way I feel about my wife of 33 years. This is her song. We are both Lightfoot fans. Wife says Riser by Dierks Bentley is my song.
Harri, there is such a deep deep well off beautiful Gordon Lightfoot songs. Once you start to examine his work you will find he a storyteller par excellence. Please give us more of this Canadian treasure.
Gordon Lightfoot has always been one of my favorites. This song is very special. I played this for my wife, and it sums up exactly how I feel toward her. True love is more than rhetoric, it's proactive.
Hey hey a great Brooklyn Mike request! I love this track Mike, can't go wrong ever with a song by this extremely talented Canadian! Great reaction Harri this is right up your alley my friend!
Gordon has written about 200 marvelously melodic songs, and his lyrics are almost always poetic. One of the greatest songwriters of the past 60 years. One of his finest albums is SHADOWS, which rarely gets discussed. From 1980 I believe. Stunningly good, as are so many of his albums. SALUTE, which came after SHADOWS is another great "modern" one.
Gord is a brilliant songwriter . My late sister and I started listening to him in the late 60s , went to shows together over the years and THIS was her favorite song. Took years but it Makes me smile now when I hear it . He’s a true troubadour. One of my favorites is “ Shadows”
Love the fact that you went one step beyond what anyone had reacted with Gordon Lightfoot His songs are all so beautiful. I would like to suggest Song For a Winter's Night or Affair on 8th Avenue.
Hi Harri, I am so happy that this reaction was finally released by You Tube so you could post and share it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! - Brooklyn Mike
For all us Canadians out there, hope you can check out Canadian Railroad Trilogy by Lightfoot. When it came out in 1967, it was Canada's 100th anniversary as a nation, and Gordon's song became our unofficial national anthem for quite some time. Glad you enjoy his music!
I finally got to see Gordon live a little while ago, ironically it was also his last tour before he passed. It was at the iconic Massey Hall which was practically his home away from home and such a treasured place to experience music, and Gordon specifically. It was such a wonderful night and you could feel that everyone felt that way, it was in the air. It was a shared experience of a moment for all of us there. I echo everyone's sentiment that there is no Lightfoot song I don't like, but my favourite is Beautiful. It's haunting, it's mesmerisingly crafted in its tension and release in every part of the song. The changes build tension and then release into major and then back again. It's stunning writing but more than that when you forget about the form, and the changes, and the structure - it's just beautiful and never ceases to tear me up.
Thank you for this. I have been promoting this song for years and it is finally getting the love it so deserves. Beautiful. I saw Gordon in the mid 60s playing in the basement of a coffee house in Toronto when I was a young buck and he was young then too and so unpretentious in that smokey old room sitting on a stool with his guitar, little known at the time, being the treasure that is Gordon Lightfoot.
So glad you enjoyed this song. I enjoyed seeing your reaction to Gord! Yes, it is a beautiful piece of work. He's 82, and still performing around the area he lives@
All the suggestions I’ve read are great and highly recommendable, I would like to add “Your Loves Return” if it hasn’t been mentioned already. Gordon Lightfoot’s music is one of a kind, he’s such a good storyteller like in the song “Pony Man” which is one of my favorites. There are so many great songs from him..it is a rabbit hole well worth going down.
Gordon has so many great songs. The other end of the spectrum of love songs ... the break up is " If you could read my mind." Everyone recommends "edmund fitzgerald". "Carefree highway" and "early morning rain" are also worth a listen. I went to a concert of his many years ago (early 70s)
Thanks for this Harry! Most reactors miss this one, but I've loved it since it came out. Those relaxed minor 7th chords just put you to sleep! Gordon also played a part in a western movie called "Harry Tracy, last of the wild bunch" from 1982. He was the town Sheriff.
Incredibly beautiful song. My partners and I played this at dozens of wedding ceremonies back in the ‘80s. Never disappointed, even with my nasally voice! So glad you reacted to it! Cheers! 😎🎶❤
Hello Sir - Ive always loved this song - Gordon Lightfoot was always underrated as far as I was concerned,. I'd like you to react to "Downstream" by SuperTramp - If you love the beautiful songs - this is one I dedicated to my wife 25+ years ago and it still stands today - Beautiful song indeed. Thank you
HarriBest, I highly recommend Your Love's Return by Gordon Lightfoot and another great one that is highly underrated is Too Late for Praying. Perhaps you could have a reaction video to these songs. Gordon was the best of all time! I have every one of his LP's. He is perfection.
I saw him last year in concert. He's not as pretty as he was on the album cover. But still a great musician. He's still playing out there. A gift to us in the US. A Canadian treasure!
He did so many great songs sung by himself and others. This guy never got the international acclaim he deserved. Almost lost him due to an aneurysm a few years ago.
A lot of comments reflect a deep knowledge of a prolific songwriter. I first met with "if I could read your mind". A very predictable choice. But few people ever crafted so much love in a song.
I appreciate the reviewer’s sincerely emotional reaction to Lightfoot’s ballad. My sense is, it has never been equalled in pop music standards. The reason it prevails is that it avoids the syrupy lyrics and repetitive chord structure of so many romantic pop songs. Instead what we have here is a declaration of love in the form of a unique melody and vocal track. This song was written from one person (Lightfoot) to another specific individual and it will stand with the other great testaments of love through the ages to come, long after the principals are gone.
A couple more Canadian suggestions for soft, gentle sounds like this: "Moody Manitoba Morning" or "Stay Awhile" The Bells (such soft vocals, practically whispering in your ear) "Oh, Pretty Lady" Trooper (has vibes similar to "Whiter Shade Of Pale")
Recommend that you listen to Gordon Lightfoot's "The Circle Is Small" of the "Endless Wire" album (which is the second - and better - version of the song). You can hear the pain in his voice as he sings about a love that is going awry. There are so many great songs...and many were not even released as singles - like "Second Cup of Coffee". A master storyteller and gifted musician.
The gorgeous use of the strings backing up Gordon's acoustic guitar really make this song extra special
Gordon is my favorite singer songwriter of all time..This song epitomizes the quality of both his writing and his delivery....A masterpiece maker....Bravo Gord...Rest in peace...
He just died yesterday, just heart. This song is one of the most beautiful 'love songs' ever--
another gift from the LORD to the world & our blessed BOOMER generation!
RIP Gordon. Fabulous tune.
I've been married to my wife for 37 years, and I've known her for 40 years. She is Beautiful!

I'm in Northern Vermont--and there are many snowy night up here. That song has meant a lot for me ever since I heard it several years ago.
Song for a Winter's Night is one of Lightfoot's best compositions, and he wrote it during a hot summer night in Cleveland. I prefer his original recording from his United Artists days compared to the Gord's Gold compilation.
A great one along with Athens Canadian Railroad Trilogy.
My favorite Gordon song,among many.
Angels sing thee to thy rest, Gordo. RIP.
My favorite Gordon Lightfoot song. Thanks.
Gordon Lightfoot. Beautiful and haunting music.
Imagine having the talent to sit and write a song like this for someone special. So rare
My FAVORITE Gordon Lightfoot song!!! I have his greatest hits album, and the entire thing is magnificent. What a prolific songwriter he was. I was heartbroken when he passed away.
And now, he has passed. Such a delicious artist. He left us such music--yes, such BEAUTIFUL music.
This was my wedding song. Beautiful song and artist.
Right on....!
Mine too.
My late husband chose this song for our wedding song as well. It's a lovely song and when I listen to it I know just how much my darling husband loved me.

I would have to add "Song For A Winter's Night". and "For Loving Me" and " did she Mention My Name"
My favorite Gordon Lightfoot song!
WHAT A VOICE ....... ❤❤❤❤❤
I’ve always thought this was Gordon Lightfoot’s most gorgeous recording. Exquisite!
A poet disguised as a troubadour. Love him.

He always has a beautiful way of telling a story

In college and in love when this came out, so this is a special song for me.
Will always be in my personal top five of all time.
He has such a beautiful voice. It seems to caress you with the lyrics. I don't think he has a bad song. Great pick Michael. Wonderful reaction
A love song as good as one gets!

All his songs are wonderful. He is scheduled to play here in my home town this fall. He's still doing live shows.
Probably the best reaction to this classic song thank you for letting us lend our ears to such a beautiful tune.

Bob Dylan ~ "Tangled Up In Blue".....!
Paul Simon ~ "Late In The Evening"....!
Dan Fogelberg ~ "Same Ole Lang Syne"....!
I know people who had this as their wedding song.
A couple more Canadian suggestions for soft, gentle sounds like this:
"Moody Manitoba Morning" or "Stay Awhile" The Bells (such soft vocals, practically whispering in your ear)
"Oh, Pretty Lady" Trooper (has vibes similar to "Whiter Shade Of Pale")
You need to react to Gordon Lightfoot songs: “Rainy Day People and “ If You Could Read My Mind. Both equally as nice as “Beautiful.”

Damn good choice, Harrii! For another facet to this Man, try Old Dan 's records!
Bob Dylan has gone on record as being a big fan of Gordon.
