We are a small UK brand, but we really do pride ourselves on producing a super high quality product, made and painted in small batches in Italy. We started in 2015 and have very many happy customers and many many bicycles out in the world now, most of them being used in very harsh conditions all year round, as they are designed for. This video seems slightly misleading, as we really see a tiny amount of warranty overall and any corrosion problems are a small part of that. As all Mason customers will know, customer service is absolutely priority for us, so we deal with any warranty fast by either refinishing in the UK, a return and refinish in Italy or replacement frame from our UK stock. As we are small, we learn from every issue and are constantly updating and upgrading the way we do things. The latest version of this frameset has many updates and improvements, including some for durability.
I've had my Mason Definition for 7 years and the paint still looks like new after thousands of miles. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I live in Southern California. Still completely in love with the bike and am saving my pennies for an Exposure. Thanks for the great bikes Dom!
Apart from the silly mistakes ive made the durability of the paint has been awesome any scratches need the touch up pen. The down tube is almost certainly sweat and seat stays and brakes will be chips that have been left exposed and not cleaned and after a salty ride. To say/imply all masons do this very disingenuous indeed.
Lovely video which shows a good process for bike owners to follow. Interesting to see the impact on the paint as well: quite disappointing for any big brand but especially Mason which produces particularly pleasing stock designs.
Great job by Jake for his first solo video. The paint issue on the Bokeh is a bit disappointing. Have they done something to address this on their new bikes?
Absolutely stunning bike, I love the silver details on the grey frame. Just looking at it makes me want to pedal as long and far away as possible.. Makes me think of my time at a shop that sold a lot of travel bikes. As a student (law, not bikes) I did a lot of sales and some wrenching on bikes that were often used all across the world, with customers telling me about their recent trip to Nepal, or going through their plan to ride all the way to France etc. Just the basic act of having my tyres touch the ground somewhere else in the world is a special feeling, it might sound a bit overly spiritual but cycling to me is the best way to connect with a place.
Rather alarmed to see that frame corrosion - my alu Mason Definition is 6 years old and the paint is still near perfect (ok, it is kept shiny with Autoglym). Can't say I've seen much or any ref to this sort of failure on the Mason Facebook page, but clearly it is an issue - for a high end frame, I'd be asking Mason to sort it if it happened to mine! Great presentation by Jake.
Congrats for your qualification, Jake. 7:28 Flying factory bb plastic seal.😄 So easy to pop and very fragile, makes me wonder why they even bother. Same with shimano.
Oooofh that paint. Im out of a gravel bike and been looking for a new one for a few months. A Bokeh been high on my list. The new 3.0 pricing seems to be a chunk more spendy, throw in shipping and its a serious price... That paint corroding and chipping just pointed me firmly in the direction of Ti again... Ouch.
This really is a rarity and we pride ourselves on our high quality finishes. The Bokeh3 has many improvements and has to be more expensive because production costs for everything have gone up, along with component costs. We haven't increased our prices for many years, not believing in putting prices up every year.
I have been on the Mason owners FB page for a few years now and I have only seen one instance of Bokeh paint corrosion. It was pretty bad looking but Mason sorted it out.
Nice video. Looking forwards to the follow up video already. You've got me paranoid re my bokeh (2020 v2 model) as i approach 25k ridden on it - no paint issues to report yet (just checked) but will keep an eye on it.

This is an absolute rarity and we do have a well earned reputation for high quality for our Alu, Steel and Ti framesets, with many happy owners around the world.

Chains stretch, at the pin and pin bore, not the roller. Take one apart to its basic parts and you’ll see. If you were magically able to remove every roller from a chain, it would not measure any longer than with the rollers in. So, rollers wear yes, but they do not contribute to chain stretch or make it measure longer.

To be fair of the 4 we have seen with paint issues you have fixed 3 of them. Thanks for adding your comment.
We also have a 5 year paint warranty.

Way to go Jake! This kid has a future.
Nice work! Looks like a sweet bike. Fair play Jake, a natural at the mechanics and the presentation.

Great work Jake!
Just found this channel, absolutely want Jake working on my bikes 👍
Welcome aboard!
Good young lad and excellent work to the point. Bit sad with the paintjob, but you can‘t go wrong with 11s-force 1.
Great job by Jake for his first solo video.
The paint issue on the Bokeh is a bit disappointing. Have they done something to address this on their new bikes?
Especially considering how much Mason is charging for their alloy frames!
If the model is called Bokeh, maybe the paint is just out of focus?
Love ya work Jake!
Great vid! only thing I would do different is torque the through axles with torque wrench.
Brilliant job,. loved it 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Good job Jake.
Congrats Jake.

Thanks Bonky. Bikes can be very spiritual for sure. Thanks for sharing.

I was also a bit irritated by the paint corrosion. I own a Bokeh and a Definition and both don't have any paint problems like these.
We had another in recently too. Mason did respray it, but it was a pretty poor job.
The bit around the cable gromit is the most common.
That's even worse! Mason make a big thing about the quality of their paint.

@@Mapdeckudos for your honesty!! ❤ keeps me coming back

Good Job! 😎
Nice work Mapdec Squad.
(( + I'll wait 'til that Mapdec 'geo' print shirt is available > ha))
Thanks. That was a 2020 design. Bit retro, impressed Jake still has it.
Great video guys. Jake my friend you are a natural ! Steve M from you know where.. Paul can put his feet up now :)
Thanks Steve.
Congrats for your qualification, Jake.

Absolutely no need to worry Chris, paint issues are very rare and if they occur we deal with them fast.

Chapeau Jake
Jake!!!
Wao I guess the student overcome the master, cheers up
What did you spray on the rear derailleur and jockey wheels?
Just GT85 it is a water disperser and light lubricant. Good for cleaning and lubing those tight spots. Just wipe off excess like you saw.
@@Mapdec Thanks....I've worried that I'd mess those up cleaning them.
nice video with jake! (just next time sort out the hair on mic situation haha)
He is just taking his time in choosing a new style. 🤷♂️
When I lived in the city my chains lasted twice as long as they do now living in the country.
I wonder why that is? Longer rides?
@@Mapdec More dirt on the roads I think and I don't clean the chain enough. It's the mud that you don't get in the big city so much.
Mans hair is brushing the mic all the time 😂. Good vid tho
That grease syringe 😍
Now I'm very concerned about buying a Mason Exposure & Raw after seeing the horror story of the paint corrosion. Unforgivable.

Tut tut Jake it's not half a milimetre it's 0.5 percent....!! ( 02:48)
I wondered who would spot that. Well done. I’m sure it was just a misspeak.
Party time! Excellent!!
I'd not spray PTFE
Deeply dissapointing to see that happening to the paint, in opposition to the reputation Mason has for quality.

Chains do not stretch, rollers wear.
... and as a result the chains get longer. Stretch is an easy enough word to explain. Please feel free to offer a better word.
