Bought mine today! Hopefully getting it put on this weekend! Thought about going for a slip on but after watching your videos, I decided that for a couple of extra bucks, the full system is the way to go. Once I get the ECU tuned, I can officially call it a ZX-3R :)
Awesome setup. This makes me very jealous and also makes me really miss my 250. Quick tip if anyone sees this, wipe off the headers after you install with a tiny bit of brake cleaner to remove the hand oil.
Dude, I just want say thank you for making these videos. As a new rider, I learn so much from your videos and the comment section. I read every single comment and soak up as much info as I can. You've helped me figure out the basics to modding, and helped me figure out what kind of mods I may want to get. Really, I want the best mods and most hp possible. Yeah, I could just simply get a 600 but I love my Ninja and I plan on keeping her for a long, long time. So I want to get the most hp possible. Are the mods you did the best possible, as far as hp gains go? I don't care how much money I have to spend, I want the fastest Ninja 300 money can buy.
You're welcome! Also, if you do my mods you'll be good to go, but be sure to do the 14/40 sprocket instead of 15/43. It's cheaper and easier, and will result in very similar numbers. Stock front sprocket is 14t.
Great sound for a small displacement bike! Sounds almost the same as the 650! The 250 just never sounded that good no matter the pipe but this is very nice.
Well Yoshimura is by far my favorite aftermarket exhaust and i think i'm just gonna get the slip on for now. I have the green special edition 300 and i absolutely love my bike :).
Yeah i checked Revzilla out and they seem pretty decent , I'm just not sure they do shipping of exhausts to South Africa which is where I leave . But since you mentioned I will call them and figure it out . Thanks
That Yoshi system does look pretty sweet! Did you consider any others? Im waiting on a Akrapovic Full Carbon slip on for my 300 & cant wait for it... The workshop team suggested bang for your buck not to invest in the headers due to the minute power gains, but looking at yours i dont care, I just want!!! I hope you're loving it!
I've never had any issues using it on brand new exhaust installations, but the key word is tiny bit haha. I'm sure dumping a ton on could mess the color up. As for burned in ones, I think you'll want something designed for the metal (aluminum I think? 3M makes a good aluminum cleaner).
Check out some of the other ride videos to hear it. There are tons of them. It sounds kinda brappy...almost like a dirtbike but with a higher, sharper note.
***** Hey! I'm looking into the Yosh exhaust, I've tried looking around but I can't see the answer. Maybe you can help? Besides the weight loss and power gain, what is the difference between full and s/o?
Howdy! Love the full with the ECU-tune. Highly-recommended, and you'll get about 5 HP added to the Ninja 300! The Slip-on is good too. You will still reduce weight (by a lot), get better looks, beefier exhaust sound, more clearance for your right boot, etc. Considering cost/benefit though, I think the full system is a much better choice!
thats why i said "claim" which is nonetheless exactly what you said: optimism from the manufacturer but if you want your bike to be 100% accurate in your eyes then more power to you guess. i have a 300 myself and ill say its probably my favorite bike ive ever ridden. hopefully ill get a full exhaust system as well and up my horses. btw what is the most beneficial about upping the horses in the full exhaust on your 300 so far? that way i know exactly what to expect
Sorry if im repeating this question but was it an easy install, beginner doesnt even begin to describe my mechanical abilities, but I can follow step by step directions to the T. : )
One tip for avoiding fingerprints, use a glove for mechanics they're called grease monkey's. And with great for holding metal whether it be wrenches or pipes. Check them out if interested, could possibly send you a pair I you'd like.
Just got my 300 2weeks ago I was thinking about going Yoshi FULL system but wanted to know how big a difference it makes in the performance dept? I also what did you mean about fuel requirements?
Heya Riddlla, The full-system plus ECU tune (flash) gave me a dyno-measured HP rating of 40.2 HP at the wheel. That's from under 35 HP stock. Not sure what I said about fuel requirements but I just use standard 87 Octane fuel, as-recommended by the manufacturer. The bike gets about 50 MPG, even when you ride it hard.
Sounds quite loud! Did you clean the fingerprints off before you started the bike?! I have found dirt will sometimes bake on if you don't get it off quickly... I think my brand new Two Brothers exhaust got about 100 miles on it before it was permanently ugly-ified.
+spacep0d, quick question, at the end of your video, you said you run that bike without the baffle, is it because its that loud even with the baffle in?
motorlaw719 It's very loud (too loud) without the baffle. Sounds exactly right with the baffle in, and not too loud at all. Just throaty and not like a sewing-machine. People hear you, but not in an obnoxious Harley straight-pipe way.
***** well in a way I want people to hear me because then there wouldn't be any accidents and what not. I rather be notice than some car ramming into me because of my bike being not loud.
Only if you're being a tool like revving the motor as you drive by them etc. In VA they can take the tags *from any vehicle on the public roadway* (you gotta call a tow or friend with trailer) if it has an exhaust system louder than stock. But like I said it's RARELY enforced unless the offender is just being a total tool drawing attention to themselves. Code of VA 46.2-1000 paragraph 1-VII and 46.2-1050.
Is an ECU adjustment needed for a full exhaust on a ninja 300? I want to buy the R77 kit but would rather do the adjustment later. Also, why did you say you would never run it without a baffle?
@Dan Ivanov: Yeah, you either need an ECU flash or an ECU piggyback unit, e.g., Power Commander V, in order to get the most from the full exhaust. I prefer a baffle because I didn't want the exhaust overly loud. I think the Yosh has a great note with the baffle in.
Dan Ivanov No, but if you're going to do that you could just get a slip-on. The full exhaust changes the incoming air, so to get the max potential for power you'd need to adjust the fuel accordingly with the ECU-adjustment or piggyback unit. So, if you're planning to go full exhaust, you should really go for the ECU-tune or piggyback too. If you just want the weight-savings, better looks, better sound and more clearance for your right boot you could go with a slip-on, and it's cheaper (no ECU-tune or piggyback needed).
***** Thanks space I appreciate the response it helps a lot. Basically I would rather get the full exhaust now and get the ECU tune later down the road. Ideally, I would love to buy a slip-on now and then buy headers and the ECU-tune later, but I do not see that being sold anywhere. One more question; what if I did a slip-on and got an area P but kept the stock exhaust, would that be pointless too?
Dan Ivanov Yeah no need for a piggyback unit (in most cases) with a slip-on, but there may be exceptions. Check with the manufacturer. In most cases you can do just fine with the slip-on and no ECU modification (flash or piggyback).
Would you recommended a ninja 300 for a newer rider? I love the exhaust btw! the stock exhaust sound doesn't do justice to the aggressive look of the bike.
***** Yeah it's an ideal bike for a new rider. Very easy to foot, forgiving throttle control...and it just won the Sport Rider small-displacement sportbike comparison....again! :D
***** I would take the 300 first..cheaper, cheaper insurance, and oh so fun in the canyons. Then, once you get some experience you should consider all other bikes...including supersports.
Why don't you want to take the baffle out? I also wondered if you knew how the mpg growler stacks up against it? Do you get any hp gain with the growler?
Nah, don't care. I know people at Yosh and Yosh is my first choice, always, for a Japanese bike. ;) I wouldn't consider other brands for some small benefit. ;) I did get 5+ HP from the full-exhaust and tune.
Just kinda curious on your opinion, is a tune super important after this kinda install? I just wonder if it's bad for the engine to ride with a full exhaust without getting a tune.
Great video's, was wondering how much miles did you install your exhaust? I just bought my 300 and just ordered my exhaust when would be a good time to install? Again great video can't wait till next.
ECU is better than a PC-V (Power Commander V). No battery drain, no extra weight and there's *way* more you can do with an ECU programming (custom) than a PC-V. But, the downside is it's harder to tune the ECU yourself (though Flash-Tune is starting to make this possible) and it can be a hassle to take out your ECU and mail it in for reprogramming. I prefer the ECU method from Flash-Tune.com.
***** Heard about them from another forum. Went down there...really nice peeps and they know their stuff! Also, no power-draw and no added mass or weight from a PCV.
I was wondering do you have to break the bike in first or can you go up to the dealer buy a brand new bike and put on a full yosh exhaust on right away? Sorry for the "cager" question but I don't want to do something that could mess with the bike in any way!
Installing a full exhaust system allows for more air flow which leans your fuel/air ratio out. It's NOT good for the engine to run like this. You would need a dyno tune to correct it - which puts massive strain on the engine (RPM to the limiter). I wouldn't recommend doing that before break in. One way around it is to get a Power Commander and run a crappy preset map for your particular exhaust.
Junior Silva With a full-exhaust it changes the air/fuel mixture, so you will either need a piggyback unit or better, the ECU-tune. You can do much more with an ECU tune. Plus, the ECU does not add weight or take up any additional room on the bike. Downside is that it's not as adjustable and you have to mail it in and wait for Flash-Tune to flash it and send it back. If you're local to L.A. you can just go there and have 'em do it.
Doogeruoy Sihtdaer It's better in some ways. It gives you more power (with a tuner), so that's a huge plus. It only costs a bit more than a slip-on, but slip-ons offer no power gains. It's also lighter since you're replacing the stock headers with the Yosh headers. The way I see it, if I am going to put a slip-on on the bike, I'm going to go the extra mile and get more power too...and on a little bike the power-gain is something that you really feel as a proportion of the stock power.
Hey spacep0d i just installed the full system on my bike and i feel way more comfortable with the baffle in to quite it down cause its still loud with baffle, but i was wondering does your bike back fire a lot I've notice mine as ???
Love your vids! I'm gonna go the full exhaust route with the ECU. Is it crucial to get the ECU right away, or would I be safe to cruise around with just full exhaust for a short time?
Hey man, I'm a fairly new rider and am looking to install this slip on myself. I was just wondering if you knew if I needed a power converter for the just the slip on. I am not planning on installing a full exhaust. I keep getting conflicting answers and didn't want to make the mistake of installing this exhaust without the proper materials. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch, great channel by the way!
Hi ATL! I recommend the full-exhaust. It's only a little more money but you can get +5-6 HP! You will just need an ECU piggyback or flash to unlock the full-potential of the Yosh full. If you already have the slip-on then yeah it's pretty easy. No need for a power-converter.
Honestly I am kinda worried about getting a aftermarket exhaust if I do it will be yoshi but I really do like the sound of it stock. It has a nice tone to it and it is still loud. A lot of exhaust for the 300 it just sounds to much like a beefed up dirt bike and Im not really digging it. The stock sounds closer to a 600 or 1000 stock. I do wear earbuds for music everytime I drive. Do you ever feel like maybe it is kind of annoying at times and sometimes wish you just had the stock sound?
Hey enjoy your vids. I am a new rider and I have also just purchased a 2014 300 myself but i was hoping you could explain more on what you mean by ECU tuning and the process on doing it. Is it something I should take to the shop to get done or is it something I can do by myself? Thanks in advance.
Does the R-77 make the exhaust any louder than the stock? One of the reasons why I want to switch out my stock exhaust is because I feel it's too quiet.
The R-77 is definitely my exhaust of choice from what I hear people say about it plus just comparing the sound to the other exhausts on the ninja. I'm just wondering whether it's worth it, particularly when considering resale value. I own a 2013 Ninja 300 SE ABS and it's my primary transportation and will probably continue to be for the forseeable future (possibly the next couple years, so I'm really wondering whether resale value is going to matter once it has 20,000+ miles on it.) Anyways, that's off topic. Thanks for answering... And to follow up, I did a little research on the ninja300 forums and turned up some db measurements of the stock and r-77 exhausts: www.kawasakininja300.com/forum/12-ninja-300-appearance-modifications/3174-yoshimura-slip-db-levels.html
Bellator Gaming That said, the Yosh is not overly or obnoxiously loud. It's a very pleasing note with just the right amount of grunt. Not whisper stock quiet, and not a noisemaker. :) I recommend leaving the baffle in.
Just installed my full exhaust! It's so much louder than i expected. I've read its rare if you get pulled over in California, but I couldn't find any info on being cited. Would it be a "fix-it-ticket" or a straight up fine? Reason I want to know is, I don't know if I should save the stock, I don't have much room where I live. :/
Yeah, it'd be a fix-it ticket. But, with a full-exhaust you could definitely put the old stock exhaust back on if-needed. With a slip-on where you have to cut the stock exhaust, this would be a little more tricky.
I was wondering how much did you get the bike for i was thinking of investing in a 300, cause i dont want to go for a 600 right away and just drop it i would rather go for something small for now. Great looking bike by the way!
I'm planning to buy 2nd hand ninja 300 I got 2 choices 1st is october 2012 manufacture 5000km, bridgestone tire with slider to protect the fairing & pillion seat cover cost 47000hkd & 2nd march 2013 600km 50000hkd.. which one I going to choose I feel confuse.. thanks...
have you been able to top out your bike before and after your full exhaust upgrade becasue mine will hit only 105mph (stock) of course... or do you deal in kph?
Have you ever heard of biohazard cycles? They sell all kinds of parts and they are the cheapest i've found so far for the slip on. Just wondering if you have heard any good or bad news about them.
hey spacep0d. so when i install a yohismura r77 full exhaust. i have to do a ECU adjustment of its optional? what is the purpose of the ECU tune or adjustment for your full exhaust ?
JR Desiderio ECU tune unlocks for the full power potential of a full exhaust. The stock Ninja 300 is under 35 HP, but mine with a Yosh and Flash-Tuned ECU is 40.2 HP. :)
Just bought a 2013 ninja 300 with this exhaust! Picking it up sunday, I CANT WAIT!!!
Sounds great bro !
thats so awesome, once i get a bike
a full exhaust mod is a MUST
My fiancée just test road the Ninja 300 and myself the 650. The after market exhausts are a must. That yoshi sounds great!
blackprophesy Yeah!
Bought mine today! Hopefully getting it put on this weekend! Thought about going for a slip on but after watching your videos, I decided that for a couple of extra bucks, the full system is the way to go. Once I get the ECU tuned, I can officially call it a ZX-3R :)
I LOVE THIS EXHAUST!! getting it for my new 2014 ninja 300!!! i cant wait!
Yeah it's a good one!
Stop lying
Yosh, and no need to wait! Go with a full system with ECU-tune or flash. More power, not much more cost. Congrats on your bike!
Foam stuff looks a pain in the arse. Nice job, so much all in one vid. Sounds good, hope you enjoy!
Awesome setup. This makes me very jealous and also makes me really miss my 250. Quick tip if anyone sees this, wipe off the headers after you install with a tiny bit of brake cleaner to remove the hand oil.
Holly shit! I need this Yoshimura R-77 Exhaust right now for my 300...it sounded pretty badass
+Alejandro Maldonado Yeah! Sorry about the late response.

You're welcome!
So it begins. Nice!
Can't wait to see your 300 next to Mark's,
I was decided on green, but now I'm unsure - White looks darn good.
Loving the bike and the exhaust. Nice job bro!
Thanks, tharun72!
Sounds awesome, I would have liked to hear a direct comparison to the stock sound but thats pure music to my ears.
Two thumbs up and very awesome of you to be considerate of your neighbors. Most of the guys in my area,.....smh all hours of the night.
Great sound for a small displacement bike! Sounds almost the same as the 650! The 250 just never sounded that good no matter the pipe but this is very nice.

Looks and sounds way better.
Very very NICE !!!
I love your white color Ninja 300R and the Yoshimura R-77 Full Exhaust ;o
The R-77 is a nice system. Looks great on your bike. I would run it with the baffle OUT. Ride safe.
Yeah, you can always polish that to shininess again, just more elbow grease required.
I've never had any issues using it on brand new exhaust installations, but the key word is tiny bit haha. I'm sure dumping a ton on could mess the color up. As for burned in ones, I think you'll want something designed for the metal (aluminum I think? 3M makes a good aluminum cleaner).
ok.. thanks a lot... i really appreciate... thank you for your time...
Beast intro and BOSS ending lol
Thanks, Lego! Legos rock, btw!
Lol, that foam looks like the ghost busters went to inter dimensional space and caught a yoshimura for you XD
if i go with a full system, i think i know what i'm getting now :D
dude that's fucking awesome!
+Sick Of Y'all Taking"L"s :D
ok sweet thank you. im starting to get into sport bikes and don't know to much about them.
nice set up!

although i dont really like your nasa style suit and stuff, you seem like a pretty nice and funny guy, nice video, subscribed!
Did the video end that way intentionally?
Nice exhaust though, looking forward to hearing it!
Not worried about Cali's new exhaust laws? Bike looks good. Was looking at that as a first bike but went with a yamaha fz6r for the extra power.
Sounds soooooooooooo nice!!!!!!

Does it matter if I buy a 2013 exhaust for my 2014 model ninja 300?
+Corey D I don't think it matters because the Ninja chassis isn't changing all that much, but check with Yosh or the retailer.
:)
***** It's okay i have since upgraded to a GSX-R750 :)
Corey D
Congrats! Nice choice.

Everything that I needed came with the full-exhaust. No need to buy a separate gasket.

and plus a dyno test, will vary from literally every engine to engine
I am curious about the sound it would make with a kn air filter and maybe swap out the headers for the FMF style but keep the stock exhaust.
Also, what's the difference in performance and sound with stainless steel R77 vs. the carbon fiber option?
Carbon fiber has reduced weight, meaning better power-to-weight ratio.
Sorry... double comment. Is it was to remove the airbox on the 300s? If so, that will greatly improve the sound/performance of your mid/high RPM!
Nice job dude
Only if you're being a tool like revving the motor as you drive by them etc.

Nah, don't care. I know people at Yosh and Yosh is my first choice, always, for a Japanese bike. ;) I wouldn't consider other brands for some small benefit. ;) I did get 5+ HP from the full-exhaust and tune.
would it sound heaps different to just the slipon???
cos this sounds amazing but i'm probs just gonna buy the slip..
Hey, is this the 12 or 14 inch system? this one looks awesome, most 300 exhausts look all tiny and silly
Just kinda curious on your opinion, is a tune super important after this kinda install? I just wonder if it's bad for the engine to ride with a full exhaust without getting a tune.
If I get the full exhaust can, I ride around with out doing a ecu flash or getting a piggback unit for a while. Will I hurt my bike if I don't?

Installing a full exhaust system allows for more air flow which leans your fuel/air ratio out. It's NOT good for the engine to run like this. You would need a dyno tune to correct it - which puts massive strain on the engine (RPM to the limiter). I wouldn't recommend doing that before break in. One way around it is to get a Power Commander and run a crappy preset map for your particular exhaust.
Is necessary a Power Commander for better adjustement of the ECU?
Or the exhaust work well without de PC?
Junior Silva With a full-exhaust it changes the air/fuel mixture, so you will either need a piggyback unit or better, the ECU-tune. You can do much more with an ECU tune. Plus, the ECU does not add weight or take up any additional room on the bike. Downside is that it's not as adjustable and you have to mail it in and wait for Flash-Tune to flash it and send it back. If you're local to L.A. you can just go there and have 'em do it.
Is the full system better than just the slip-on? What's the advantage other than price? Thanks
+spacep0d - Incorrect. There is a power gain, even with just a slip on, but it's not as significant.
Josue Sánchez
This is something you can measure. Stock HP is below 35. My HP is dynoed at the rear wheel as 40.2 End of argument.
Looks and sounds good!! Cool garage dog! ;)
Hey spacep0d i just installed the full system on my bike and i feel way more comfortable with the baffle in to quite it down cause its still loud with baffle, but i was wondering does your bike back fire a lot I've notice mine as ???
kristian miller Yeah, it does. You can do the snorkel-delete mod to help wit hthe backfiring. I haven't done that yet.
Also, were the revs outside with the baffle in?
Hey you didn't haven't do any welding right?
Love your vids! I'm gonna go the full exhaust route with the ECU. Is it crucial to get the ECU right away, or would I be safe to cruise around with just full exhaust for a short time?
Also, can you do a comparison with your exhaust on your 300 and marks exhaust on his 300?
+B Sly ECU tune changes air/fuel mixture to deal with the extra air coming in from the exhaust. This gives ya more power.
whoa... did u drop a "hella"?
Does the R-77 make the exhaust any louder than the stock? One of the reasons why I want to switch out my stock exhaust is because I feel it's too quiet.
Bellator Gaming Yes, a good bit louder (which is part of the appeal). There's also more power to be had with the full-system + ECU tune.
The R-77 is definitely my exhaust of choice from what I hear people say about it plus just comparing the sound to the other exhausts on the ninja. I'm just wondering whether it's worth it, particularly when considering resale value.
I own a 2013 Ninja 300 SE ABS and it's my primary transportation and will probably continue to be for the forseeable future (possibly the next couple years, so I'm really wondering whether resale value is going to matter once it has 20,000+ miles on it.)
Anyways, that's off topic. Thanks for answering... And to follow up, I did a little research on the ninja300 forums and turned up some db measurements of the stock and r-77 exhausts:
www.kawasakininja300.com/forum/12-ninja-300-appearance-modifications/3174-yoshimura-slip-db-levels.html
Bellator Gaming That said, the Yosh is not overly or obnoxiously loud. It's a very pleasing note with just the right amount of grunt. Not whisper stock quiet, and not a noisemaker. :) I recommend leaving the baffle in.
***** Leaving the baffle in? Now where's the fun in that? x)
Then again, I might just be a hooligan....
Bellator Gaming
Or not! ;)
What about oxy sencor when you remove stock exhaust. Have it warning by led on watch ??? .... Have you run dyno or run map again??
Anh Quang Trần Bike was tested with full-exhaust on it, no stock exhaust and no O2 sensor.
Why did you go for that one what's it like to the 2 bors and all the rest ?
Can you use this full system without Ecu flash tune? Are there any cons or harmful effects?
@Aaron Mitchell: Sure, but you'll probably need an ECU piggyback unit such as an Area P, Bazzaz, Dynojet Power Commander, etc.
+spacep0d oh ok, thanks man
Aaron Mitchell
Anytime.
With a slip-on where you have to cut the stock exhaust, this would be a little more tricky.
hi im new too motor cycles and thinking of getting an exaust for the 300 abs which is better two brothers or yoshimura
I gotta ask, how and where did you get that suit man??? It's so badass
I was wondering how much did you get the bike for i was thinking of investing in a 300, cause i dont want to go for a 600 right away and just drop it i would rather go for something small for now. Great looking bike by the way!
What's the difference between a slip on and a full system?
I'm planning to buy 2nd hand ninja 300 I got 2 choices 1st is october 2012 manufacture 5000km, bridgestone tire with slider to protect the fairing & pillion seat cover cost 47000hkd & 2nd march 2013 600km 50000hkd.. which one I going to choose I feel confuse.. thanks...
Whats the size of your rear stand spools?
So say I get a 300 and get this exhaust system, where could I get that ECU adjustment or tune or whatever everyone is talking about?
F5C Flash-tune.com
***** Thanks man!
+F5C Anytime. Late response here, LOL.
Very nice bike Mr Spacep0d!
The value of the brand new Ninja 300R cost about 60% more than my bike, I can't afford it ...
how much was the yoshi, cause im considering it?
Best retail prices I've seen come from places like Revzilla.com!
have you been able to top out your bike before and after your full exhaust upgrade becasue mine will hit only 105mph (stock) of course... or do you deal in kph?
Hi,
Where did you get the exhaust from. and do they have a website or something?
How much did it cost you?
too bad yoshimura and twobrothers are not allowed in my country (too loud >.>) .. so i'm thinking about Akrapovic or LeoVince?
Have you ever heard of biohazard cycles? They sell all kinds of parts and they are the cheapest i've found so far for the slip on. Just wondering if you have heard any good or bad news about them.
where do you live space pod? looks familiar
hey spacep0d. so when i install a yohismura r77 full exhaust. i have to do a ECU adjustment of its optional? what is the purpose of the ECU tune or adjustment for your full exhaust ?
JR Desiderio ECU tune unlocks for the full power potential of a full exhaust. The stock Ninja 300 is under 35 HP, but mine with a Yosh and Flash-Tuned ECU is 40.2 HP. :)
