FFXIV’s apology: “We’re sorry for the decision we made and we hope we can make it up for you. 😢”

To be fair, he's the head (YoshiP) of the project, so any mishaps that happens, it would be someone that calls the shots and as well their responsibilities. Unlike Blizzard, they just shrug it off as if nothing happens, and they will start drinking a copious amount of alcohol the next day.

@@gianni.sacciloto To me, I find it bizarre that he would get emotional over a delay to make the game great. Which, in my eyes, sounds understandable especially when they have been doing a good job. But I find it admirable compared to Blizzard’s shrug, “Oops. Sorry I guess.”
That just tells me who is more passionate.

@@lostcrusader8053 He is always like this, not something bizarre at all. They gave us a fixed date for the release and iirc they never failed to deliver on time. Never. The first time this happened was with the 5.3 patch because of Covid, and a second time now basically for the same reason as they already were behind on schedule. Yoshida probably felt deeply ashamed of himself for not being able to deliver on time, something he is proud of never having happened before.

It's a combo of ego and protection from corporate liability. Apologizing is seen as a liability by US corporations and law as apologizing is an admission of guilt for doing something bad. By admitting guilt, they are then held responsible for fixing the mistake and or upholding counter measures to prevent the mistake from happening again. But since those fixes are expensive and can threaten the status quo, the "easiest" way to prevent all that is to never apologize.

And the only thing I'm disappointed about is that fact, that I won't be able to move my time off because I know that the dev team realizes all of this and knows that there are many others like me, in fact if all the interviews are anything to go by then YoshiP would have been one of those people that would have taken a few days off to play the new expansion if he were just a player. I also know they wouldn't have done this delay if it wasn't absolutely necessary to bring us what we've come to expect from the FF14 team. So it was either release a product that hadn't been fully tested, or delay the game so they could complete QA. And to be honest, I know I would feel pretty terrible if they released it on the 19th and I was greeted by a broken game I'd taken time off for, whether that was the second coming of Raubahn Savage or some other issue, so I would rather they took the time to make sure everything works as it should rather than yeet out broken content with the 'oh we'll just patch later' mentality that's become a plague on gaming.
Looking at these clips should also tell you why if Blizzard tried to do an ARR move on WoW, it would fail. SE had the will because they understood that saving the Final Fantasy brand's integrity would give them high dividends in future, and they had an absolute miracle in the form of Yoshi-P. Ion and the other WoW devs are too far up their own asses and still riding the 'WoW is unsinkable' mentality while their players flock to other games in the thousands, so they would never do the soul-searching and shock-horror learning from other games that made ARR a success.

Well, some of them are taken out of context and anyone watching think they are that outright smug.
This is what you need to know about the WoW dev team to make an idea. There is a perpetual cycle they go through in each expansion and this is generalized to give you an idea. It goes like this:
-> during Closed beta they receive feedback that they ignore.
-> during Open beta they receive feedback that they ignore.
-> releases game by ignoring feedback.
-> Surprised Pikachu face, players dont like the changes and bleed subscriptions.
-> eventually implementing feedback (as if they came up with these ideas) but not to address the issues, just enough to bait subs.
This is heavily generalized. WoW players are sick of alot of things. The answer he gave when he got asked why do they nerf demonology was a sarcastic reply because the community before this interview were all pissed off at the nerfs and were all up in arms "is as if blizzard doesnt want us to play demonology". Nevertheless, they overhauled the spec to add a new class born out of demonology design, Demon Hunter.
They have a rockstar mentality. Everything is not their fault, we are there to bask in their creations. They do this over and over and over again and it is from this mutual hatred WoW devs and player base these answers are born. I am sick of WoW devs as much as the next guy. I play Samurai in FF14 right now, lvl 70 (right now). Most of Ions answers are taken out of context. His answers are always non-answers. Alot of lawyer talk.

I started FFIXV almost 5 years ago, and it's the first pay-to-play I ever gave a chance. I do not and will never once regret that decision. It's so worth it in so many ways, and a dev team that actually cares is a huge part of it. Granted, being that I'm autistic and struggle with change, once I get used to the changes made, I'm fine, and have no complaints (other than missing Flash). I love FFXIV, the story, the characters, the choices, the ability to be everything, mounts, minions, emotes, dances, event content... I love it all. And the community is far more friendly and accepting than any other gaming community I have ever been apart of or even witnessed from the sidelines. I still believe that is true, but not because WoW players are inherently toxic; they are just reflecting the toxicity shown to them by the developers.
I know this is true, because once the WoW player quits and takes up 14, their toxicity seems to just melt away. I have been playing 14 since Heavensward, and I was worried that a deluge of WoW ‘refugees’ would destroy my community. I always heard from FFXIV players that YoshiP is very passionate of trying to make FFXIV a great MMORPG experience, but damn, you can actually see his anguish and treats this delay as a failure to the FF14 community. I'm guessing this was a decision from the higher-ups. But man, YoshiP really takes this seriously.
