Wow, from 2004. In 2004 I left NSC after 14 years working as both a parametric and functional test engineer for a position at Intel. Bob Pease was already a legend. He was truly one of the legendary grey beards, one of those who stroked his get beard as he made magic happen.

Tip... If you need to set the compensation, and you lost the little plastic do-hicky that came with the probe, just take a toothpick and file its tip to the shape of a screwdriver. I've done this for adjusting trimmer caps in RF circuits. Hummm... I said "tip." The pun really wasn't planned.

@@dankleton You don't want to use a metal screwdriver because the big conductive mass changes the capacitance

Wrapping a scope probe lead around a ferrite toroid is inserting a common mode impedance into the measurement hence improving the common mode rejection of the amplifier. It only works if the ferrite still has a high permeability at the frequency you are trying to reject, so don't use a square loop or a low frequency ferrite.

24:20 That's the most beautiful prototype board I've ever seen. All my prototype boards look like ziptie hack jobs with solder and wires going everywhere. I learned alot from this video and love the berets!

You cannot use Murphy's law to avoid problems, Murphy's law is recursive, if you use it to predict a problem then that problem won't occur but something else will go wrong instead.

Hah! NEVER trust a 'scope that's wider or taller than it is deep! Them little electrons need space to limber up and get going on the staight and narrow! Just kidding....:)

By way of orientation, this episode seems to be from late 2004, judging by the dates on the webpages shown around 22:50. Bob Pease passed away in 2011, and there's an affectionate video "Remembering Bob Pease" here on YT: ua-cam.com/video/-E_zUJ-SKRE/v-deo.html

"A good passive scope probe can be pushed up to 500MHz." Except that 8pF at the probe tip will have a reactance of -j40 ohms @ 500MHz.

"You can't use a conductive screwdriver. (for adjusting scope probes)"
Well, you can remove the screwdriver and THEN check the overshoot/undershoot and make progressively smaller adjustments until you get the probe dialed in; NOT THAT DIFFICULT.
