Starting gen 3, you should start having a specific target of what mega digimon you want. Some megas cant combine, and you want your mega digimons to combine mid-battle. Tips- Gallantmon and any of the other male members of the 13 royal knights can combine into gallantmon crimson mode
If you're very efficient, you can do that and beat the main story by gen 2, but I recommend playing the game in a more laid back way, otherwise it becomes a grindfest. I don't think you can do it in one gen, though. There are too many people to recruit.

if you started with Pokemon I recommend Digimon World DS since is closer to Pokemon... and then Follow up with the PSP Digimon Adventure game... it takes place on the first seasons of the anime and then you can jump to Cyberseulth and World: Next Order! even Survive (the last one is more focused on the story) or you can do as Jaiden and start on a game I've heard nobody suggest to start for a reason... the rest of the games on Digimon are Smash and """"RPG"""" talking about the first 4 Digimon Worlds... serviceable games but have either A) weird mechanics or B) become more grindy but if you like to play something different and you love to explore in the RPG and make as many sides quests you can I am pretty sure you can deal with it since most of them offer side quests and over 150 Digimon to get that should keep you busy until you feel ready to keep the story going ALSO! World Dawn and Dusk are the sequels of World DS and you should play World DS first since the first minutes of the games assume you already played World DS since the Dungeons and Quest are more complicated
The next Story game is centered around the Olympus Twelve, so hopefully that will mean giving them 3D models and enough public spotlight that both Coronamon's and Lunamon's primary family lines will get to be in the next World game after that!

I wouldn't recommend buying it for 50$ tho, and without mods it's not really great because it's too slow

I remember playing this blindly and I somehow ended up with mega gargomon and rapidmon even tho I didn't choose terriermon for any 😂
And rapidmon evolved into kentaurosmon so these 2 were my first megas 😂
