How Optic trained Tarik to be the perfect C9 leader

  • Tarik, as both an in-game leader and entry-fragger, has defined C9’s style more than any player in the team. We take a look back at the roots of this aggressive style in Optic Gaming, and see how Cloud9 maximizes on the opportunities it opens.

      2nd in summit and quarterfinals against Faze on map 3 on a double ot inferno? I mean I know they did bad at Star series, but they played against SK, Faze, and Mousesports who eventually won the whole tournament. Don't forget Cloud9 won against Faze on cache 16-13 after losing their first game against them on cache 16-1. They play their best under pressure.

    • @Baba-yv6ml

      SK is bad now. Summit is a tier 2 tournament. C9 has been playing quite badly after the Major. You have to face facts.

      How can I face facts when you never put any? SK is in a slump, yes, but in Star Ladder they still played decent.

      Okay fine, keep sticking to your delusion that Cloud9 is a good team but the truth is that Cloud9 is back to how they were before the major, winning fuck all tier 1 tournaments.

    I'm gonna completely disagree with you on that cobble example. that was just tarik fucking up. all 3 players could've anchored and defended against that push just as well as stewie and rush did I feel

    • @jasoncurtis9776
      @jasoncurtis9776 6 років тому +30

      He's not saying that tarik went in as a bait. The point was that the rest of the team plays really well around the aggressive style tarik calls so that when one of them messes up the rest of the team can still clean up rounds. Rather than falling back and playing defensively, you see Stewie2k take a 1v2 and Rush peek aggressively to take another duel. Tarik made a mistake there no question but the team commits to the play and the movement to support him and keep control of the round.

    • @curtism6722
      @curtism6722 6 років тому

      Yea I agree, Tarik fucked up and then Stew and Rush managed to shut down SK without Tarik. You could literally put a silver in that position and Stew and Rush would still win. That play had nothing to do with Tarik whatsoever

      Jason Curtis this is just plain wrong dude, if the awp can get onto plat and post they don't need to make that second play, the only reason why they gave up drop and both fought plat is because they only had two b and knew that they had to fight either b plat or drop, and stewie was already close to retake so they left drop and fought plat.
      It's not one big play, it's one play, him dyin, then a reaction to that.

    • @jasoncurtis9776
      @jasoncurtis9776 6 років тому

      Where did I say it's one play? I was literally saying exactly what you said. The play changed when tarik died and the point he makes in the video is that the team is coordinated enough to recover a disadvantaged situation when tarik's original call doesn't work out. If you actually read the comment I responded to you'll see that SkipsPro thinks hes saying tarik took the death deliberately to set up a bait which is untrue. I was trying to say that tarik's plan was to make the box play and then he made a mistake but his team was able to cover it.

    This video was made by someone who has no idea how high level cs works and is just stating things out of his ass.
    All of the examples used had nothing to do with tarik being hyper aggressive as an entry fragger or making super individualistic plays. I think he is a super good player and he does make a lot of good plays, but the examples used have nearly nothing to do with tarik.
    For example; one round was showed where the ct's took aggressive banana control against c9. You talked about how tarik went and entried hyper aggressive through a smoke to make space for his teammates, but c9 was just doing a standard banana retake, they smoked top car to stop the ct's from peeking down banana with their molly, then flashed high with a flash right clicked through the smoke and 2-3 people jump through. That has nothing to do with tarik entrying, or him being an insane igl, it's just a common reaction to a standard banana take.
    The next example was a round on cbbl where tarik picks plat and gets spammed and has to run, dies whatever. Then you guys said that it was tarik dying that made space for stewie and rush to make plays, how was there no space in the first place? There was literally less space, taco now had all of plat control. Then you said it was tarik that was the reason why the plays were made, but it was almost 100% stewie who made the call to retake plat, right as tarik dies you see stewie getting close stairs to retake, rush gives up drop to help fight plat, and they flash plat and fight together to retake plat. Once again a really super common reaction at the top level. Nothing to do with tarik, the only thing tarik did was die, once he fell off plat he should have just gone statue and not even reaggressed without a teammate, which is why a play had to be made.
    I'm not trying to say that tarik is a bad player, but the examples you gave had literally no correlation with what tarik actually does to help c9.

      Gera Mendez True that was not good with the cobble example. If you go like this i csn always say now: NICE Bodyy died now KennyS has space what a teamplayer. The death of tarik still was very bad for the team as they were a man down, luckily rush and stewie managed to get some frags, even tho that push could have easily been punished.

    with all due respect. i really like this channel and as a fairly new IGL its really helpful to find certain nuances.
    But please stop stuffing flowers inside of Cloud9's asshole. I agree that its great that an NA team has finally taken a major title. but this is just ridicoulous.
    A quick look at Cloud9's 2018 shows its fairly mediocre with a few spikes and matches that most would consider really good. and the example on cobblestone was just tarik being way to aggressive and giving SK the man advantage. the fact that SK then decides to completely lose that advantage due to lining up for stewie2k and rush is in no way a sign that Tarik's play won the round. tarik only put his team at a disadvantage, with no real way of trade fragging the kill.
    Props to Stewie and Rush for picking up the round anyway though, but that was a really weird example.

    • @VJai

      Not really. SK has lost form. C9 has had multiple 2nd place finishes in 2018 plus has made it out of almost every group stage not including Starseries. Granted they are not the same as during the MAJOR but staying at the top is never easy and always has some bumps along the way. If they win the next major this team will be one of the all-time greats.

    I really like your channel, but you're going too hard as a fan: of your last 6 videos 3 of them were about cloudnine (considering you take too long to post a video this is fucking huge)
    We're going to april and you're still talking about cloudnine's major
    Still praising a team that yes, had an excelent major, but after that c9 were just peaks and troughs when fighting against tier1 teams, they've simply lost that form since boston major
    and your example was horrible, tarik didn't have the slightest participation in that round you talked about, nothing that happened was planned, it was just a quick decision and those gunfights got right for cloudnine, there was no smart tactic and it easily could have gone wrong
