Am I glad that I can live without "extreme perfection" in my cabinet builds and installation. You have a great assistant to help you do the installation. Again, you have outdone many of us amateurs.
Beautiful attention to detail. Love the whole cabinet bottom system. Elegant. It's super funny how you say "send to paint" and "back from paint" like you have a separate shop of elves somewhere. Then cut to Matt running the sprayer. 😂
I always laugh when he refers to the paint shop. 😂
Some youtubers show lots of repetitive actions.
Asian wood workers do that with mortise and tenon work,
For example when cutting a board, how many boards do we need to see.
Mathew will show the viewer maybe 2 boards being cut and then we see a days work.
@@trishblakely3476 I was kinda hoping to hear the trumpet sound from Batman when he said, "To the paint shop..." 🤣
I'm so impressed by this entire project. Every bit of it, to include the storytelling, editing, and production value of the videos. I'll never get over the detail and quality of what is freely available on UA-cam compared to what I watched on TV in my 20s in the 2000s.
“Why are custom cabinets so ExpEnSiVe?” This right here. IF you could even find a cabinet maker to build these, with all their specifications and whoozits and doo-dads, the price would be astronomical. Matt, it is a pleasure to see your methodical, exacting thought process in action. This kitchen is going to be spectacular when it’s done.
Thanks Trish!
I say ditto to that ! Super job well done!
Will you make a video of when you actually try and use the plug mold? Taking the cabinet off the wall. Removing the old back piece and making a new one moving the plug mold away from the wall so you can actually plug something in. and then remounting the cabinet. Such fun!
Your "plunger" is called a dashpot.
Your "driver" for the LED lighting is huge! It most likely uses the 1895/1920 circuits used in most junk antique AC/DC power adapters.
Your kitchen is going to be beyond words to describe its beauty and craftsmanship. Hope Donovan is well. We miss seeing you two working together.
I hope the twist in those large cabinet doors don't suprise you Matt. Inset doors are my favorite, but they can be a challenge. You have the right idea by installing the cabinets without twist, that just means the doors must not have twist. I use a 2-way ajustable butt hinge, it helps for finale install.
Matt, you are without a doubt one of the most talented woodworkers around. The attention to detail is astounding. Great job.
You do a fantastic job, retired at 73 i could watch you 24 hours a day
Well Matt, “It definetly looks like something" Whatever this is” and even more than that! I’m sure Lindsay didn’t mind helping as long as it got closer to the end result….haha! Seriously though, Great work AND explainations of how it is all going to work! Beautifulful build!
Such great craftsmanship.
Again, another great glimpse into the project. As mentioned, your attention to the details of how everything fits is wonderful. I find it refreshing to see Lindsey taking part in the hanging of the cabinets. My wife and I have hung them together too in several kitchen cabinet installs . And, we are still married after 50 years. It takes a team to do what you do. I'm glad video was not around when we did it. It can be stressful, but the end product is always great. Cant' wait to see the final result..
Kitchen’s looking great, Matt! I know it’s been a long, tough slog. The end is in sight.
Thanks so much Matt, you are taking cabinet making to a whole new level! The precision with which you build things inspires me.
Great job Matt!
Furniture making attention to detail on a kitchen cabinet job. A couple of suggestions when having to hoist uppers by yourself: 1. Put a temporary cleat on the wall at the correct height, or slightly lower. 2. Buy some of the Fascap 3rd hands. They can take over after the cabinet is resting on the cleat. I'm 72 years old and ganged 2- 32" cabinets together and used this method for installing. As always, thanks for the wonderful video.
Impressive work!
OMG such complicated cabinet lighting! The amount of $$ these would cost if not being made by you is probably insane
Anticipating this episode for a while!!! You are a gluten for punishment!! Great job!!!!
Maybe a glutton, 😊, but totally right Matt is willing to do a lot of work one time to have an amazing house for life.
This is gluten free install
Best typo I’ve seen in a while 👏
You and your wife may be short. You both have learned to work around it. My 2nd oldest sister was about 5'2"s she had redone her old kitchen to be larger snd and more useful. Most people were shocked at how professional it was. Thank you for proving that size counts so much less than determination and ability.🎉❤
Looking great.❤
I’m 5’11” (and 63 yo) and the bane of my kitchen is that the counter is standard height and it hurts my back to cut up veggies or bake or wash dishes. 😢 it never bothered me until the last 10 years.
I design plc control cabinets for a living, after watching this my job seems pretty simple. lol, you have taken a set of kitchen cabinets and raised the level of complexity orders of magnitude that only Matt could ! I can’t wait to see the completed project, it will be spectacular I have no doubt…
Very impressive Matt! It's been a long journey and it's been fun following along.
Another excellent installment, Matt. I’m really enjoying how you take the time to explain all the details of your build. Scott
Wow. Great work. Those upper cabinets are fantastically complicated, in terms of electrical wiring and gizmos.
Probably dont have to worry about this, but you may want to space the power strip away from the wall, enough to accommodate thick power adapters (wall warts).
Absolutely amazing Mat! You are so meticulous. You are a craftsman for sure.
Why didn't you make these UA-cam videos 50 years ago, Matt? I've learned so many techniques and tricks that I could have used. Just goes to show that you can teach an old dog new tricks.
The kitchen is coming alive. The pot filler looks great !
What a coincident. This weekend I installed a freestanding corner wardrobe (yes Pax coz they're totally sufficient for me) in my 122 yr old house with NO plum and level walls/floor. However, the major obstacle is that the ceiling has a 35 degree angel for about 50 cm from wall making the height way to short for my cabinets, and I had to trim the inner corners. The coincident is that to make everything fit and the doors to stay open by themselves I had to use the same chiming technique Matt used for his uppers.
That “dead space” seems like a good spot for a time capsule! 😉
Boy is it taking shape!
Beautiful workmanship wow ❤
Matt speaks to his future self. I find myself speaking to my past self: “If only you’d done it the way Matt did!” I like to think that Matt, upon discovering errors, cursed and swore the way I did. But he appears so unruffled and circumspect in the video, just serenely solving problems while I, at the time, berated myself severely and ‘lived with’ things I later realized I wish I’d fixed. Ah, hindsight. Great problem solving and serenity, Matt!
Matt, your persistence to make things perfect is awesome to behold. A true work of art! Can’t wait to see the finished product
Thanks!
When competition of the remodel is done... This style of house will be referred to as a Cremona House style!
I'm going to have all these new things installed in my cabinets when I get to my forever house!
I love how you embrace the tediousness of repetitive drilling and screwing, etc... But more, I know how haunted you are by simple miscalculations. These are things which keep me up at night.
It's looking so good ! Love seeing Lindsey ! You work well together ! I LOVE YOU ALL !! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
This episode brought to you by the number 5.
Yes. Does that mean you’ve been working on this kitchen for 5 years? Lol. Jk. Love it all.
Another awesome episode. Great work.
Matt, a suggestion- if you can put the driver for the cabinet lighting in a more accessible area- like the ceiling of the adjacent appliance garage- it will prevent headaches down the road. The driver does generate a fair amount of heat. You are correct that they are only operating sporadically, but when they fail it is a pain in the a** to repair/replace if they are not easily accessible. My 1st generation driver lasted exactly 10 years, but the LED light strips failed much sooner and trouble shooting was a pain as it was uncertain whether it was a driver/connection or light issue. I love your problem solving process for all the components. It looks so sleek and well thought out.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but the driver is very easily accessible by removing the cover panel on the bottom of the cabinet. Seems like putting it above the appliance garage would be harder to access?
@@titosrevengeryeah the bottom panel will be removable. It’s much more accessible than putting it in a cabinet
You might want to move the plug mold even further away from the wall in case you want to plug in a charger or some other power brick.
You should brainstorm a "time capsule" to place in that dead space in the corner for some future family who remodels the space some decades in the future to find and consider. (A current newspaper, magazine, etc placed in a PVC pipe with threaded end caps for example. A copy of the architect plans? Some of your Merch? Some of your kid's drawings (in case they do the remodel) A letter to the future.... )
As always, looking good. Love the way you took the time to figure out how to work in all the hardware, lights, etc. that had to be integraded into the cabinet bottom. Way to go!
It does make quite a big difference with the upper cabinet boxes in place. One step closer to a finished kitchen. looking good.
Matt thanks for metric indications on your videos, helps to know what you are measuring
Just how many things do you expect to plug in along those counters? There's like 12 plug in spots on those plug mold strips... 😂. Those are some seriously next-level cabinets with all those hidden features!
I absolutely love this idea. I’ve got one on modest workbench and wired up outlets every four feet in the garage/shop. My kitchen only has power on one side of counter, so appliances can only go there. I’m definitely considering the plug mold idea so appliances can be plugged in wherever I want them instead of wherever there’s power.
Hi 👋, Matthew and partner, nice job, I have made and worked on some very expensive projects, where the architect hadn’t allowed for tiles going on the wall, He was a little bit upset when I told him that he had made a cock up, Then started accusing me of the problem,
Many many years ago, I even had a contract to make some staircases into high-end entranceway to a business park inside a building , I was given some dimensions to measure off the floor from landing to ground floor height, I started to measure it out to get the risers correct, the measurement he gave me was incorrect, so I asked him to come back and clarify the dimensions. He told me that I didn’t know what I was talking about, just make it to the dimensions that he had gave me., so I said can you please mark on the wall where I supposed to start my first trade, he didn’t like this, but he done it, I got him to sign a piece of paper to sign the dimensions, so I carried on making the staircases to go into the area they were supposed to be seven I think in total, but I decided to make two and fit them, they did not look right, I left site on a Friday morning, I wasn’t supposed to be going back until Thursday or the Friday afterwards, on the Monday afternoon, I was asked to go to site the next day, So I arranged to meet I think it was site engineer and the company that I was working for during the subcontract work,
We got at site around 5 o’clock in the morning on the outskirts of London , we had managed to get all the planned details of how the staircases were supposed to be built and fitted, Explain to them that I had already spoken to the guy who gave me the details to make all the bits and pieces, and I explained that they had made a mistake, and I said he told me that I didn’t know what I was talking about, by 10:30 11 o’clock on the day of this meeting, the guy who would give me all the information and signed the piece of paper with the dimensions on it, was fired, it was told to leave site, So even the best of people can make mistakes, it’s our achieved to get around them and sort them out,
Luckily, I do not do that sort of work anymore, as I am retired , good luck with your project is looking good. Stay safe, and as they say measure three times and cut once., 😂
Always pull your blind bases. Words to live by.
The beauty of screws. Looks great Matt!
I like the idea of the upper cabinet spacers. We used 2x6"s or 2x8"s with pump jacks to raise them. Keep up with the videos, always a learning experience.
WOW I am overwhelmed with the detail. Great job.
Good Morning Cremona Family.
Well Done…again! The whole wall setup really looks nice even without the doors. I can’t believe that you both were able to get those uppers installed, but you pushed through and got the job done. Congratulations on this milestone. While the doors will make it look more finished, without the base frames installed square, level and plumb, it wouldn’t look as nice as they do now.
Coming together nicely Matt! 😃👍🏼👊🏼
Nice episode in the renovation of your wonderful home, thanks. Suggestion: When using magnets to keep doors closed, why not use reed switches / reed-contacts to do the cabinet-lights. They are very small and hiding them is easy. It's an affordable and reliable way to kill two birds...
Late Happy Birthday wishes to your now 5 year old ❤
I had a feeling that corner cabinet was going to be an issue for 1 thing or other. The uppers are usually held up with a temp leger board or french cleats. You didn't have much room to the ceiling and dowels into studs could have been used as a temp support. The lights were excessively complex, but look good. It was unnecessary to make them flush with the bottom edge because a little shadow line when the lights are on look better in my opinion.
Those shims have a lot of uses.
Amazing that you have tackled not only a remodel which is very respectable, but making these high end cabinets with super cool features is definitely a video to save for reference... Matt I'm having trouble thinking of how to integrate led lighting on a simple floating shelf just on the surface to light the collection. I think I'm overwhelmed with too many choices, I need to figure it out, but I'm being lazy asking you 🤣 Thanks for all you do!
Hahaha there’s so many options. I went with “buy a bunch of stuff and see what works best”
Ok I got this! @@mcremona
Hi Matt, either get a hair net or a hair cut mate. The drill press will scalp you in a nano second…..cheers mate!!
Wow
50:02 I choose to believe that Matt just has a pocket full of dominoes on him at all times now.
Feels accurate
Wow, it’s going to look amazing, love watching your work 😊
Amazing workmanship and detail... and and all of this in your free time such that main work isn't affected...congrats.. 😅😊😊
Appreciate the item descriptions. Helpful.
So beautiful. Happy Easter to your family
Hey Matt, i usually dont comment on videos, but it is time for a big Thank You! i follow you since the build video on the sawmill and i have to say, i was jealous! The past few years I allways dreamed about a Sawmill that big. 2 Years ago my dad bought a Wood-Mizer LT15 but that is only capable of logs up to 70cm. And now I am in the final planning phase for my own giant sawmill, it is inspired by yours but different in many ways. F.E. i only got a single pillar on both sides and i will use a chain drive to lift the boom, cause it is way cheaper, since i cant find any used screws that large. Also the feed will be electric and attached on both sides since i hope that this will lead to a cleaner cut.
But when it comes to the blades i am not quite sure, i called Wood-Mizer Germany, cause the carbide blades are not available here. And he said that Wood-Mizer quit the partnership with their supplier of the blades, cause the werent happy with them, since they tend to snap. So now i will get the Bi-Metall Blades, good thing is, that WM will made any lenght you need for just a little more than the standard legnth.
Maybe you have enough blades for the next few years, but if not you should as WM if they still have them.
Veery nice so far. Tks for the help Lindsey.
I second that was great attention to detail and skill. With all the electrical, its a lot to keep straight and will undoubtedly produce a beautiful facade!
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing! 😊
WOW that's one expencive looking kitchen. Well, You got the skill for it...
great work, so many helpful tips. really appreciate this content!
Are you going to do videos of you taking the upper cabinets off the wall and replacing the spacer for the plug mold with one that moves the plug mold far enough from the back so you can actually plug in power bricks like the one for a laptop or a phone? Your architects screwed up with the plug molds. Apparently, they have never tried to use one.
I don’t think it’s an issue. The brick would have to be wider than a wall plate
@@mcremona Try it with a brick ½" wider than the plug contacts.
@robertpearson8546 I have. Still clearance
@@mcremona Good! Thank you for responding.
I learned a lot from this video!
Good video Matt!
Matt this gives New Meaning to Customization.....the Devil is in the Details....haha
Cheers from San Francisco.
Very nice! Thanks for the video.
Any tips on the painting process? They look so buttery smooth. curious how many coats and what type of paint you use for the white?
I love your safety socks 🧦 😊.
Happy Easter for your family. Love the videos
Well done!!
Matt it’s looking like a kitchen at last thanks for sharing you build
Whoo hoo!
Masterful!
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
Nice work Matt 👍
Looks great Matt. Keep up the good work. Stay safe.
Very nice, exciting that some of the cabinet are up. ❤❤❤
Put some furiture pads under the cabinets so when you slide them, they don't scratch the floors. I would put some trim pieces on the top of the top cabinets so its blocked off. mice, bugs, & dust will get back there and it does not look like you left any clearance to clean it.
For a more cleaner look, make a rabbit for the cabinet carcass fit in the cabinet front frame & glue it in. What i don't like is that your bottom cabinets are set up for a toe kick recess as the cabinet sides come to the front.
A more practical option for DIY cabinets is to buy RTA cabinets that you assemble yourself, but saves the hassle of making all of the parts yourself.
Love it.
The other point to consider on the pot filer is the burner layout on the stove. Is there one burner that is larger than the others and is more apt to be used with a larger pot where you would want the pot filler more?
Love it so much keep it up as always 💘
Awesome talent. Amazing precision.
Matt don't forget to install the drain for the pot filler 🙃
Good to see wifey helping out, think the skateboards (4 years ago) was the last time she hit the tools
