RJ H As a teenager I remember being driven by the area on Melrose Avenue that had 2 theater marquees: “Happy Day’s” and “Lavern and Shirley.” I think they were the doors the audience would use to get into the show tapings. I regret never seeing a show taped live even though I live in L.A. I just remembered that she shared a birthday with me. I remember that every October 15th I would quietly wish her a happy birthday. RIP “Laverne.”

I never liked all the rumours. I know they loved one another. They HAD to! They were (Cindy is still great) great professional gal pals! I'll miss my lil Penny though. There's no crying in basebawwwwll, Shirrrrl!
And they did!! They did love each other! Silly rumors.. Cindy used to go to Penny's house and they would watch TV in bed because Penny's house was always cold. I just watched an interview on that.

That scene with the 2 boys and Edna Babish - she said "Cindy" instead of"Shirley". Both boys corrected her. Lol. I wanna see more bloopers from the boys! No Micheal McKean bloopers in the lot! Lol
Penny & Cindy were hilarious together, I loved the show. Just hard to lose people u grew up watching on tv, they become like family. I’m 41, and still couldn’t believe Penny was 72 when she died😢💔

I couldn't believe it either, I saw the news on a magazine when I went to the store.. I didn't want to believe it, I was so shocked!

I never understood why they relocated the the show to California and dropped the whole 1950s thing?
Ratings were dipping and it was an attempt to revive them. Ended up being this show's "jump the shark" moment (a la Happy Days).
Actually the California episodes took place in the 1960s, I remember they had a 1965 banner up and the mentioned the Beatles. I agree, most people didn't care for the California episodes. Cindy Williams was just interviewed and said she would have preferred they relocate the setting to NY.
@@rtususian Agree about the California angle. I think the idea was to finally have the girls (and supporting characters) escape their mundane, going-nowhere existences for a better life elsewhere. And while that's certainly a goal for most people in real life, that was the whole charm of the show. Might've been interesting to send them to NY and have them try acting instead. Could've set up a lot of hilarious physical comedy.
