The band America is forever associated with road trips in my mind thanks to a camping trip I took when I was 10 or so; my half-brother's dad took the two of us up to the upper peninsula of Michigan for a week-long camping trip with his family, and on both the drive up and while we were driving around there, one of the albums he played multiple times was America's greatest hits. I've had the lyrics to half that album memorized for over 20 years thanks to him.
I never had an America album, but this song was such a prominent tune in the soundtrack of my life, its practically part of my soul. I may not have heard it in 40 years, and I don't know the words, but I know exactly how it goes from the moment I hear it. Makes me feel young.

If you guys read this, I have a song suggestion. Me and my family just lost my grandfather, Richard. He died of lung cancer at the age of 78, on the 15th of March, 2023. Before he was taken away to the funeral home, my mother discovered a song and played it next to him on repeat, because the words meant so much to her. It described everything going on, and how selfless of a man he was. It’s a song called “Just Breathe” by Pearl Jam. It made us all cry. We were truly blessed to have him. As a father, an uncle, and to me, a grandfather. RIP Grampy, we miss you.

It's such an awesome song. One of my all time favorites. I just love good lyrics. So much can be said with just a few words if they are put together in the right way. You totally get it Amber. I love that.
What I love about America is how they take a bunch of really simple things: chords, notes, vocals, acoustic instruments, etc., and they put them together in complex ways: harmonies, layers, transitions to create beautiful, memorable, and addictive songs. I know that's music in general, but America seems to do it better than most. They make it sound like it's easy. I'm sure it's not.
I was a community college instructor in S Calif in the 70s. It would be hard to overstate how much my students were into America. Along with the Eagles, they were huge!
When I was child my parents would put on the radio or vinyl records and spend the weekend doing the Spring cleaning. This song will always remind me of Spring, sunbeams through the windows and the smell of Pine.
Another good band often overlooked is the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. They had two songs that got a lot of airplay - "If you want to get to heaven", and "Jackie Blue".
This one reminds me of the loud speakers blaring this out at the swimming pool when I was a carefree kid in the 70s! Probably my favorite America song ... thanks for doing a video on it.
I turned 7 in 1975 when this song was released. It was one of the first records I listened to repeatedly as my older sister had it on 45 and have loved it ever since.
America was the first concert I went to in 1982/83. I remember lying on the floor in playing with my toys listening to this song at just 3-4 years old; this would have been 1975/76. One of my earliest memories.
You guys were really cracking me up on this one. Sit right on. I remember at that age thinking, it's just to pop for me but the thing is I always realized it was a good song and plus a lot of the girls I knew in junior high and high school really liked it. And then I was listening to it just now and I think it totally rocks. It's such a great song and I love all the layers and from a musician and songwriting standpoint it's just really good and compelling.
I never got to go to a concert of theirs until the late 2000's. They actually played at, if I remember correctly, the debut of Pendleton Whisky at the Happy Canyon arena at the Pendleton Round Up stadium, in Pendleton, OR. Now you probably have all those connects made. Why they chose America, I don't know, but they were amazing. They sounded almost exactly like their earlier work and they looked like they hadn't aged even. I was amazed. Concert was great, whisky is one of my favorites.
Interesting story how they got their name. They were born and raised in America by American servicemen fathers and English mothers. They were all living in England when they met and formed their band. They named their band America so people wouldn't think they're a British band trying to be American.
When I was in the Marine Corps from 77 to 79 some friends and I did songs while off duty. We played and sang songs from America, Beatles, and Creadance Clearwater Revival.
Sometimes I can’t remember why I walked into a room but listening to a song from 48 years ago I can sing every word. Thanks for reacting to this song.

@@pattyestrada6 You’re Welcome ❤️
It's such an awesome song. One of my all time favorites. I just love good lyrics. So much can be said with just a few words if they are put together in the right way. You totally get it Amber. I love that.
One of my all time favorite songs. I remember hearing it on the radio in the 70s.
“All My Life”, “You Can Do Magic” and “Lonely People” are 3 of my favorites from America.
This band is so damn good, they named a friggin' country after it!
My favorite America song.. love the drum fills and guitars!!!
I can sing every word to this song it's feels good to remember it! One of America's best!!!!
I love singing this song.... I've sang it many times running karaoke shows.... Big Smile!
By far my favorite song by America! I love to listen to it and to play it. Such fun!
This group formed in England in the early 70’s. Their dad’s were in the military stationed there. Great group.
I listened to this as a child growing up I love this old stuff takes me back to 10 years old
I'll be 58 soon
My wife calls this the Bob Villa song because of the ending. She hears "Bob Villa, Bob Villa ." Bob Villa did a show called "This Old House" on PBS. 😅
When I was in the Marine Corps from 77 to 79 some friends and I did songs while off duty. We played and sang songs from America, Beatles, and Creadance Clearwater Revival.
