For my rennaissance rules I wrote. Engineers, sappers etc. Gave you engineering points, you spend these during to deployement to either add defense or remove terrain pieces. One battle my opponent removed the wood I was going to roll my field gun into and set up an earth bank right in the centre of the table forcing me to separate my pike blocks

Im glad i found your channel a few months ago. I thoroughly enjoy your articles and how they mix things from just stating your order of favourites of units right up to the game suggestions of this article. Great job. I LOVE these vignette/units and your ideas are great. Im getting the units together i want to play with, based around peninsula campaign and your passion around black powder has enthused me to play that and Sharps Practice. ....waiting for the perry skirmishing early french box comes out so models are more dynamic for the smaller battles.

Thanks dude! We started Sharpe Practice and got together a couple of armies based on Napoleon's Egyptian campaign, but it kinda petered out. It's not that we didn't enjoy it, it's just other stuff came along. You've reminded me we should give it another go!

These can be great objectives and things to interact with in more skirmish-sized games as well.

Great video and some really good ideas I'll definitely be trying.
Was actually discussing the farrier possibilities with my regular group the other day as it's such a nice model, we'll definitely be trying out your suggestion.
Last battle we used Baron Larreys ambulance however instead of being attached and effecting morale saves, we said he moved as a commander and each command phase he could attempt a Rally order on one unit within 12" at a SR of 8. If a double was thrown then the ambulance was full and he left the field taking the casualty with him if it was still a pass. Seemed to go down well, especially when he tried to help out the old guard, failed, and just left them to it 😀

The farrier could also be placed next to the artillery, as all the artillery was horse drawn. You could use it with any unit that depends heavily on horses. Let your artillery move twice. (and getting artillery in place faster usually, in my experience, is a bit more advantageous than a cavalry unit...at least at the beginning of a game.)

This is just bloody brilliant. From a hobby modelling point of view I really like these vinette models. I love that limbers come into the game. Sorry Tim is this actually built into the game or is this a house rule make up? Whatever it is I like it a lot. Even in my 18mm Napoleonic miniature I like to make mini diaromas on my command bases. For example I did a couple of troops walking past Nosey with his Adjutant pointing. I also added a small tree. Its just a lot of fun. Im really liking this idea. On Limbers would you have one per battery or per gun?

I love vignette models! A big part of why I love historicals, all the extra models that can give more context and character to the game. What do you think about adding command range for general staff models for commanders? Maybe:
    +3" for an orderly
    +6" for an ADC
+12" for general staff (really significant vignette with quite a lot of figures, like the napoleon/wellington ones)

This is great! I love vignettes and have often wondered how to use them, other than for tabletop eye candy. However, with the ambulance, how about leaving it on the table & using it as an alternative rally device, so it could go from unite to unit (at wagon speed but for the flying ambulance, again attached to cavalry only) and rally one casualty only, but for the first casualty, then must move on. Love casualty figures anyway and always paint up 4 per unit is finish. Big Hugs !

Nice ideas! Just a thought; combat engineers were very much thing during the Napoleonic wars, especially when attacking field fortifications or occupied buildings. Not so sure them building fortifications works as well.
In general all these could make for some nice flavour for those 'bounce games that are not historical or scenario driven. Indeed they could become the basis of a scenario! Who will get to the bread makers, with all there new fresh bread first? There is also the chance to add a few other bits of random silliness; a tavern! Troops must pass a check to not lose a turn getting boozed up (on a - for the rest of the game). If the unit is Hussars, they have to not get way-lade by the squadron commander trying to seduce the tavern-keepers wife... :)
Have you any interest in 6mm for Napoleonics?

    • @NapoleonicWargaming
      @NapoleonicWargaming  5 років тому

Hahaha, some cool ideas there! I especially like the tavern keepers wife one. I think Eureka do a vignette of a hussar seducing a girl at a water pump.
As for 6mm, It's not something I've delved into yet, but it's certainly not out of the question. I've played Blucher a few times and really enjoyed it. I'd love to see units of 150+ 6mm dudes on bases the size of those cards!

I saw people kneading dough, A mobile wood fired oven....So were is the Famous French Bread?🥖🥐
(Yes I know that baguette and the croissant are of Austrian origin and Probable post-Napoleonic, But the French do adore bread, even started a revolution because of the lack of it! )
