Very enjoyable watch Lumpy. I had a narrowboat hire recently and heard the honkers that you ranted about 😂 I mistook this honking as another boat approaching the bridge. It was on a bit of a bend in the canal so I waited patiently for the honking boat to appear. I waited sometime 😂 then a car went over the bridge, honking on approach. Oh well, you live and ya learn 👍
I don't have a copy immediately to hand to check, but I believe bridge honking is in the Highway Code. If a bridge is too narrow for vehicles to safely pass on it, and it's blind, you are required to honk (in addition to slowing to a safe speed) to warn oncoming traffic. One of the two roads into the village where I grew up had a single lane bridge that was completely blind, pretty much everyone honked and I've avoided conflict there by honking.
Wee May heads home. A pleasant cruise with added Arial shots. I didn’t know about the numbering of the cottages, thanks for that. We have a 90° blind corner not far from here. It's called Hoot Corner due to somebody painting the word 'Hoot' on the wall as you approach. You can guarantee that if you hoot your car horn as you approach, there will be no cars coming in the opposite direction. But fail to hoot and there is sure to be a car and a close encounter.😂
Love your channel, and your view on things, recently commented on you view on spitting. I live in Argentina (Buenos Aries) where one gets used to horn honkers. Most intersections are 4 way, one way roads in the city with a kind of rule of priority but incredible modified by ones concept of 'priority'. Buses and big HGV's are king, interpretation of the orange state of traffic lights, depends on the interpretation of the driver and their perceived importance or non importance of their personal safety, insane macho-ness etc. Pedestrian beware
Just suited my mood, ............ wistfully sailing along, thinking of home ! Looking at the old homes of the Lengths-men, ... keeping the canal in good shape, ............ sorting out the Carriers ! Home to a nice hot soup ! And some Crusty bread and Cheeeeeeese ! Thanks for that ! Honk, Honk ! Take care ! Stu xx
I really enjoyed coming out of Bimringham towards Fazley last year, think its because I had just done the Stratford canal, the locks are so much better going towards Fazley. Yeah I often honk and have avoided cars who have honked before they go over bridges. You can hear the horn from the other side, I grew up around the Ashby and there are a lot of canal bridges, where you cannot see the other car until you are right on top.
Yes the Curdworth flight is generally well behaved. I agree with you about the Stratford locks!!! Good to read about your positive experience of honking! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@NarrowboatNatterings infuriating! If you ever see a collection of smashed cups near a bridge you'll know who they belonged to! You ain't seen me right!!! 😂
The last few canal walks I’ve done whilst out bailiff checking has seen zero boat movement on the staffs/Worcester canal. I thought your community would all be warming up and moving out of moorings. It’s a sad state seeing boats sunk, there’s one just by Hinksford near Wallheath. The problem is the boat owner is a regular offender and has had the same issue multiple times. If ever there was a boat best suited to steptoe and son it’s that. There’s a hump back bridge the back of derby end Netherton. That crosses the canal next to the Bumble Hole and is really steep and narrow, I totally get what you say about others not hearing but out of habit I wind my window down and honk once whilst driving slowly. It’s not me but the other potential tit head bombing it towards me 😂
Hello matey!! Yeah it's been such a shit start of the year with the weather, I think the enthusiasm hasn't gained any motivation yet! Some shocking boats about aren't there. Many uninsured and unlicensed. The cost to have them craned away just isn't always viable. A lot of mental health and alcoholism amongst that 'vagrant' type community. It's quite sad really. There are plenty of tits about mate!
@@NarrowboatNatterings I bet, sadly where the boat has sunken you couldn’t get a crane anywhere near it. It would first have to be towed further along the canal then craned. I’d imagine that will be a last resort due to extra cost and I’m sure the owner cannot afford it.
Very enjoyable thank you very much.
Very welcome David.

That's good to know. Thank you for answering my questions.
I know what it's like to moor next to these bridges. Imagine having to live next to one!!!

Pleased it suited you matey! Yeah I lose myself to thoughts of what yesteryear would have been like, as I'm cruising along.

I'm too embarrassed to honk , my cars horn is flaccid to say the least
Hahaha! Word of the day: flaccid!
Something to do with age I assume?
makes me throw my cuppa in the air!!! 🙄🤣

No, no and yes!😂

You can have great fun using your boat horn as a reply to the honkers
My boat horn is a bit pathetic to be honest!!!
Moor at Napton on the Hill for horn honkers, terrible.
It's infuriating isn't it!!!?
