This is like a small form factor PC. Once you get it put together, you will never want to open it up for fear you will have to somehow put it all back together and align every small part again. So the inside doesn't matter at all.

It's kinda expensive.. A dock is about $80? And gamecubes are usually like $20 now. And you only got one shot to do it. Unless you got money for more if you messed up

The extra switch dock just came in today that was 70$ Had to buy a brand new dremel 4000 kit for 140$ A broken gamcube for 10$ The adapter which i woulda gotten anyway 20$ A soldering kit 40$ Plus all the other tools i didnt own totaled an extra about 100$ And i havent even bought the 3D printed parts yet. Whoop whoop. Cant wait for it to be done though
The only things I noticed that I would change is to add in vent holes in the slot for the Switch, small fans to move out the hot air and not to close up the holes in the Gamecube case.
I feel so glad and sad at the same time seeing a GameCube turn into a Switch Dock. It is a childhood classic and the opening to put the disk in was the special part, but it is awesome to see old tech becoming new again.
I didn't see vent holes on the 3d printed holder. You need those vents to prevent suffocating the system, especially in docked mode when the console can get pretty hot.
AeolusCE07 he blocks off the side vents in the GC shell, but the main problem is that the 3d printed part that holds the switch doesn't have cutouts in the back for the air intake vents on the switch. Meaning it will really be blocking the airflow and may cause overheating
@SOCIO did you not watch the beginning of this video, the idea of the mod was to use the shell of a BROKEN gamecube that's just gathering dust and instead turn it into a cool looking switch dock with usable controller ports.
Seeing as the GameCube is my favorite console (if you can’t tell by my username, haha) and the Switch is getting really close to being my second favorite, it’s great to see the two combine! Fantastic job on this!
you forgot to incorporate te vent holes in the switch dock during 3D printing. tis makes it very difficult for the switch to suck in fresh air to cool. witch can ultimately make the Nintendo Switch overheat in your home-built doc. But the idea for this Gamecube Switch Dock is really nice. (translated by Google)
Since there's so much extra space, maybe add a small fan to help it out a bit. Since the Switch isn't using active cooling, it doesn't need to run at full speed, so you can keep it silent.
I noticed this too, not only did he not put a hole for the Switch to breath in, he sealed up all the vents on the side for air to be taken into the GCN case :/ Seems like an overheat waiting to happen
I see you neglected to put in vent holes for that dock 3D print housing. If you do another version of this, I would suggest that be added to your design. ;)
This was awesome! I might try something a little simpler, but it's a great idea to have an integrated GameCube controller adapter instead of having it dangling from the dock. If anything it'll just make things look cleaner.

Oh nice! With a little tiny bit more modding for a silk cushion cloth when inserting the switch screen so that it won't scratch then that be beyond perfect. Good job man this is an awesome video. If this can actually play Gamecube disc games then that is beyond god mode perfection.

Stuff like this makes me sad I don't have the work space or required tools to pull something like this off.... I would love to own something like this. Edit: People, need to stop asking to buy this from him. The price would probably be more than a Nintendo Switch would even cost considering how much time and effort it'd take as well as the materials. He clearly isn't mass producing the required components and unless he had 200+ purchase orders, I can imagine it wouldn't really be worth his time plus it's take a ton of resources to acquire that many Gamecube shells alone. I'd estimate the cost would be anywhere from $300-$500 considering the time and effort, the Switch dock price, gamecube controller adapter price, the Gamecube shell price, printing material, glues and other adhesives, shipping and handling, etc. I may be off in the value but I feel it could easily be worth at least $300.

These kind of things are a one time only build. For fun. Some people replicated it on their own and that's amazing! But mass production is completely incompatible with the nature of this build
Doing this for $500 parts and labor would be nearly slave tier work. He should sell the plans for the 3d printed parts. Then people could source the factory parts and print the parts he designed to recreate this mod. Honestly he would need to charge probably nearly $1,000 or more each to do this reasonably profitably by himself. Sell the 3d printer files and a set of plans for $25 or something and potentially make some money while also building a name for yourself.

What software did you use for the 3D modeling? I'm looking into doing some component 3D printing for PC mods but iv never done a 3D project that required such precision before.

I think a ventilation fan is absolutely required since the switch tends to overheat in the official dock and any dock that is stylized after it.

dunno about that. The adapter uses two USB slots and has four Gamecube controller ports. In theory, it should support four gamecube controllers.

it would have been cooler to mod a LAN adapter to the underside of the console rather than just retaining ports that do nothing
but i feel if you do that you limit what else you can use the last us port for

While you are at it, maybe put an Nvidia Shield in the underside to emulate an actual GameCube.
