I just got my MKE 400 and I love it. The best part is that it has a volume pad that helps to control loud volume sources. Great review. Thanks.

Love this microphone. Price/performance is perfect, good sound, utilitarian, rugged. Nice all around. And that for 200 😊 perfect for starter and pro use, if only as a backup it is already worth it.

Sounds amazing when it works. Sometimes when using my iPhone, I've had footage recorded where the audio was very low, even with the gain boosted to +20bd. Could the batteries just be low? The red light never came on so I thought it was still OK. No idea why sometimes it sounds amazing, sometimes the volume is too low. Even bumping up the footage o 400% in iMovie still yields low volume. Thanks for your help.
Hey I'm having the same problem that the audio is low and I have to boost it in camera, and it makes the sound hissy. Have you been able to replicate the moment it works and it doesn't?
Have you tried the mic when the camera is powered by the mains instead of a battery? I did and it picks up a very loud humming noise. I dont have such a problem with my Rode Video pro mic or 15 year old Sennheiser mke400mk1 (still my goto mic). Happens on two Panasonic Lumix cameras S5 & FZ2000. Does anyone else have this issue?
Would you recommend the fx3 over the canon r6 mark ii for documentary/vlog content?

Is it still your favourite a year later. I noticed on another unboxing review it had 2 AAA batteries in the bix. Is this the case.
Yes, still my favourite run and gun mic, yes I believe there was 2 aaa batteries in the box, Sennheiser seem to be good with providing batteries in the box

What's the volume settings in-camera? Since there's no adjustments with the MK400 other that the +20 and -20 db?
On my Sony FX3 I use it with +10 in camera and +20db on the microphone. Hope that helps :)

@@ChoicesHabitsAttitudeLuck Ya I use the +20db on the mic and +14 on my a7Cii. Sounds good with not much self-noise. I am surprised though that I had to boost everything to get a strong signal? I guess the pre-amp on the camera is quite good. I would rather have set the mic to 0 DB but then the camera would be set too high. Thoughts???
Hey man! Nice review:) i just got this mic and I'm using it with the sony a7iv. What is your target gain on the camera? set my mke 400 at +20db and have the preamp at 9, and can only reach -12dB peak talking normally at an arms length. It seems pretty low to me and other gain options would make increase the sony preamp and make it hissy. Can it be that I need to send mine to Sennheiser for repair?
Unfortunately the Sennheiser has a high self noise especially at the highest gain setting. You might want to check out Sony's own offerings ECM-G1, ECM-B10 and ECM-B1M since you are using a Sony camera.

How do you mount this on fx3 ?
If i use it with XLR unit I mount it on the top of the smallrig cage for it, and if I use it with camera only I mount it on the Tilta cage shoe mount on the top or in the hotshoe of the camera :)

@@MariuszGajdzik can use the mKe 400 along with Dji witless mic both at once with the XLR unit right ? One into the camera and one into the XLR unit. That way both audio get synced directly. Plus there’s a safety track.
I prefer Tilta myself
Yes, you can, but you need to connect one via mic jack to XLR connector and they will be synced and recorded to separate channels
