1- oil cleanser 2- toner essence without knowing purpose , no over exfoliation no over hydration is key 3 - hyluronic acid serum 4- watery essence in spray , thermal waters = they calm redness but not hydrating, for hydration make your own mist 5- pore extractors 6- expensive eyecreams
@@anncude531 I assume you're asking Dr. Idriss of course, but for what it's worth, I do exactly that. I use the SK-II essence how she recommended in the video for longevity -- I transfer it into a spray bottle (I use an amber-colored glass spray bottle with a plastic top that I bought on amazon) and use it twice daily before her hyper serum. I was using the essence for a while before her serum, and to be honest, I'm not really sure if it has helped at all. I know some of its benefit might just be in "anti-aging" (like how they found the active ingredient by noticing factory workers in a facility that used the active ingredient had smoother hands than faces), but I haven't noticed anything else from that alone. After adding her hyper serum, I have seen a small additional benefit. I think that my skin appears more hydrated and my freckles look a bit lighter. I haven't noticed much reduction in my mild rosacea yet, but it's only been a month and a half so it's possible it might improve more over time :). Either way though, there are a lot of essences with galactomyces out there and while SK-II has the patent on this particular strain, there is not any evidence (that I could find) stating that it has proven benefits over another strain. That's not to say it doesn't, but after I finish my current bottle (which has lasted 6 months so far and I would guess by the amount remaining it'll last an additional 4-ish months), I'm not going to purchase another one for a while just to see if I notice any changes in my skin.
As for oil cleansing, it gets the job done only if followed by a water-based cleanser...I can't believe there are people who won't wash their face afterwards 😭. It's called double cleansing for a reason
I think a big part of the reason is that nowhere in the directions of these products does it say to follow-up with another cleanser. So unless someone does their research properly... they believe they're buying just a normal one step cleanser that feels moisturising.
@xtiebro so true! I read micellar water bottles say "no rinse" um NOPE imma rinse and then properly wash my face 🥲 labels need to step up with descriptions cause I've seen some describing BHA as safe to use twice a day 😭😭😭 say goodbye to your skin barrier 😭😭
yes totally!!! I absolutely LOVE my pure oil cleanser (its just rosehip oil, pumpkin seed oil and ginseng) by mad hippie. I wash it off after with aveeno oat gel and I swear that's the only thing that gets my sunscreen off and prevents oil buildup!!!!
As an oily, sweaty, and acneic guy who only wears water- and sweat-resistant sunscreen and reapplies it throughout the day since I live in a tropical, very hot & humid country, I find that cleansing oil + water-based cleanser is a game changer for me. Using a gentle water-based cleanser once or even twice are sometimes not enough to remove all the debris on my face. I have also tried using a cleanser with stronger surfactants to see if it will be enough as a single-cleanse routine, but no. I have also tried micellar water, but I feel like that's more suitable for makeup really, also I just don't gravitate towards micellar water, I don't prefer having to use a pad, I'm lazy lmao. I just wanna use my hands.
@@mollyapteros i think of it as investment for the future me hahaha, i also like taking care of myself. plus, it would be shameful to my future partner (i hope there is) if she's taking care of herself right now and i'm not taking care of myself. it would be unfair to her hahaha.
@@ced3069I hear you on the micellar water. Which is why I use a *micellar gel* as the first step in my double cleanse, less pads more hands 🤦🏾♂️🫣🧖🏾♂️. I find it to be a better investment & more therapeutic: - La Roche-Posay Rosaliac Micellar Make Up Removal Gel 195ml Then follow up with whatever active acne treatment that addresses the type of acne you have as your second cleanse: - CeraVe Blemish Control Cleanser 236ml (2% Salicylic Acid) - The Inkey List Acne Solution 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser 150ml - De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment 73.7g (10% Sulfur) - Q+A Oat Milk Cream Cleanser 125ml (Colloidal oats is not necessarily an acne treatment but it does help by repairing an inflamed Skin Barrier) Hope this helps!
I have dry, dehydrated, sensitive skin. Adding an oil cleanser to my routine was a game changer. My skin looks so much cleaner and brighter. I also love my toners and essences. I love how they make my skin feel. I know my routine isnt right for everyone, but it works for me. 😉☺️
Ophtho MD here. Love your science backed videos! But just a rec from a colleague: we recommend AVOIDING peri-ocular retinols. They cause loss of meibomian gland structure, which leads to chronic evaporative dry eyes. I’ve seen too much of this. And once meibomian glands are lost, you can’t get them back
That’s an interesting point I haven’t heard before. I couldn’t find much on pubmed about this, but what I did find concurs with your statement. My mom has dry eyes (zero skincare routine) and I often have dry eyes with contacts. So now I’ll need to keep looking for a solution to my wrinkly eyes. 😢
How about retinal? I have an eye cream with a low concentration retinal that doesn't feel too harsh in that area. Do you recommend avoiding those too? Thanks!
Yes to almost everything but I will never give up my oil cleansers. I've used them for ten years as part of double cleansing and I've never had a single issue for my sensitive, combo, slightly acne prone skin. They melt away makeup and sunscreen and even when I'm not wearing anything I can feel a difference if I just use a regular cleanser. Double cleansing makes my pores visibly cleaner and my skin softer; it ALWAYS looks and feels better than a regular cleanser alone. I think the issue might be people using ONLY an oil cleanser and not following it up with a regular one. But of course everyone's skin is different. I just wanted to put this out there in case anyone starts doubting oil cleansers now.
Me too. When I stopped using an oil cleanser, my skin got worse. The other factor is not emulsifying the oil and washing it off properly. I love the DHC Cleansing Oil.
@@tesdagostini4719 Oh man I've used so many. The main thing is that most are Korean or sometimes Japanese. DHC Cleansing Oil like the other comment; Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil; Round Lab Dokdo Cleansing Oil; iUNIK Calendula Complete Cleansing Oil; Dear, Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil...
She's not saying they're bad for everyone and nobody should use them. They don't work for her and her personal preference is just to use micellar water for her first cleanse. I've done and do both but honestly the bioderma micellar water works extremely well, is less messy and a fantastic option for people who want low effort.
I have oily skin and I will never give up my oil cleanser followed by a second gel cleanser! Micellar water does not do it for me. I make sure that I use oil cleansers or cleansing balms that emulsify so that they rinse easily.
I love oil cleansers. Some are better than others. And I’ve used cleansing balms, but I’m not a huge fan of balms. Micellar waters are ok. Burt’s Bees has the best micellar water, imo.
Which oil cleansers do you recommend? I've only tried peach & lily and i don't feel it is very effective for my slightly oily, mature skin with texture. Thx for recs. @Aerie925
@@suzannesteele1275 I have very oily skin and I love Tatcha Camilla cleansing oil. I do follow-up with laroche posay micellar water for oily skin to remove the oil but it has helped my breakouts tremendously!
Same. I was actually doing more damage to my skin by scrubbing endlessly with cotton to remove makeup that just refuses to be removed (with Bioderma's Micellar water". However, I do notice SOME oil based cleansers do break me out. The one I've been using for almost 2 years now and loving is Clinique's Take The Day Off. I never use it on its own though. I always follow it up with a cleanser.
Same! Some work better than others, imo. But it’s the easiest and most thorough way of taking off waterproof makeup for me. The efficiency of it will make me never give it up.
As someone who has desert-dry skin in Southern California I have always used a thick winter moisturizer all year round, night and day…. Until a few weeks ago when after watching one of your videos I put together that the heavy moisturizer and the heat were causing breakouts. I switched to a gel moisturizer and I’m absolutely loving it. Your information about skin type and climate is very helpful.
I agree! I have oily skin and also live in S. California. There is hydration in moisturizer whether its cream or gel form. The key is to look at the ingredient label and make sure the hydrating ingredients are towards the top of the list.
I constantly had congestion on my skin for the LONGEST time and just accepted that as my skin but when I saw you do a video about not liking oil cleansers it was like a lightbulb moment! Barely breakout now
Thanks to you i significantly simplified my skincare routine. Gel cleanser, vitamin C, gel moisturiser and sunscreen , + exfoliants 1-2 per week. I never finished all the toners and serums, etc so I stopped buying them few years ago. For someone in early 40s, my skin looks good 😊
As a medical aesthetician yes to all except I have an issue with the toner comment. Skin is a ph between 4.5 and 5.5 naturally acidic. So when you use a cleanser and wash off with water. The ph of the skin becomes alkaline due to the use of water (also why you may feel drying or stripping to the skin after washing off) The toner helps to bring the skins natural ph back down.
Oil attracts oil so using an oul cleanser works as long as i follow it up with a foaming cleanser to remove the oil leftover. I find oil clensers breakdown waterproof sunscreen the best.
Same. Oil cleansers felt like a godsend when I started using them. I have had issues getting makeup and sunscreen off my entire life, over cleaning and scrubbing because of it. Microcellar water isn't much better. I always cleanse with a regular cleanse after (not sure why anyone wouldn't!?) and it's never caused a breakout for me.
Same! It just doesn't work for me: 1. It doesn't take off all my makeup at once. 2. Which means that I need to keep on getting cotton pads/cloth, using a lot. 3. Because I need a lot of it, the bottles doesn't last long, making it expensive. 4. And on top of it, it irritates the shit out of my skin. Red, burned and itchy is the result. PRAISE THE CLEANSING OIL/BALM GODDESS 🙏🏻❤, for it melts every inch of makeup on my face, doesn't irritate and the product generally lasts a month and a half or two, which makes my wallet very happy.
Just putting it out there-subliminal affirmations for perfect skin and beauty on Borlest work wonders. If you’ve never tried it, now’s the time. You’ll be amazed at the difference!
I have 57yo mature skin living a cold dry climate most of the year (Alaska). Essences and toners have helped save my skin. I do read the ingredients of course so that whatever I'm using is serving a function. At my age though, hydration is half the battle because older skin loses moisture more easily.
What she’s saying is that you have to read the ingredients on the „toners” and „essence” cause the word toner itself is meaningless, same goes for essence. When I was starting my skincare journey I used to look up on google what a toner is.
But with the micellar water you have to wipe and wipe with a cloth, especially to get off that mascara. That irritates and stresses my skin out more than the oil cleanser. I do use DHC oil cleanser to break up all the makeup and sunscreen, then i wash my face. It doesn't break me out, which is surprising (combo skin) but I also don't leave it on; it's just a makeup remover.
My mom used Avene spray because it did calm her skin when it felt like it was burning (she had dry skin eczema). I really wish I'd found out about the glycerin mixture before she passed away. She would have loved it.
Haha I bought avene thermal water spray for my friend with rosacea based on Dr idriss rosacea video It does help You just don't need it if you aren't red
Dr. Idriss, Thank you for creating a Hyaluronic Acid Free Skincare Line. I can't use HA because it always makes my face look so dry. My skin always looks healthy and moisturized after using your Skincare. Your Hyper Serum is the Best Serum and it works wonders for my skin. Thank you for helping me with my discoloration from all the years of sun damage. Another great video!!!! 💜🤓
Totally this! I thought I was crazy and everyone said it can't do that but everytime it would cause my skin to get inflamed. I was so thankful when Dr. Idriss uploaded that hyaluronic acid video
@@user-kw1hq-r8o iirc, it’s because HA binds water to it (one of the reasons it is said to have a damp skin when applying HA serums), and when using too much HA it binds too much moisture and even start to draw it from deeper in your skin. But don’t take my word for it, check out her long video about HA instead, you’ll learn lots! 👌🏼🙂
Matured normal skin type. I do double cleanse with cleansing oil follow by the cleansing oil, and it does not break me out. The cleansing oil does not strip excess moisture from the skin.
I live in South Florida, and but I spend all day indoors with the AC blasting, so I still need moisturizers. I just cannot handle the heat, so I prefer to stay in the drying AC with a sweater on than out there it's 88 degrees at 10am.
So nice to see that all of us oily-skinned people need our oil cleansers pried away from our hands. You can totally, absolutely use an oil cleanser if you're oily. The key is finding the right one and making sure it emulsifies well and that your water-based cleanser cuts through that oil really well. I've been double cleansing for almost ten years now and it's helped with acne so much because there's no leftover makeup.
I am always happy when you point out the issues with Hyaluronic Acid. After using a serum with it my face got so red it hurt. It took one of your videos for me to figure out what was the issue. It took a year of Vanicream only on my face and then the addition of a barrier serum to get rid of the red. Thanks for mentioning it again.
Truth be told, I bought Dr. Idriss’ whole line (except for her new soft wash cleanser, I have to save some $$ first lol) and that is all I use and so far, I’m very pleased with it. I do use Miscellar to remove makeup and a light cleanser for the nights I don’t use the chemical exfoliant!! Thank you Dr. Idriss! 🙏😊💜
Thanks for a very educational video! I have normal to dry skin, I am 70 years old , I have been using an oil based cleanser for years to take off my makeup up and sunscreen and I double cleanse every night , I never break out and my skin is very beautiful for my age ..not sure I agree with this recommendation! 😉😉
I love oil cleaner. I have combination skin. I first remove makeup & then use an oli cleanser it doesnt make your face oily. I recommend L' Occitane Cleansing Oil or Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil
I just discovered the oil cleanser and I'm loving it I won't stop using it! And I know the hyaluronic acid maybe it's not necessary but for me it is, absolutely! A good one
I don't have oily skin so I love oil cleaners. I have found they work the best to remove makeup. I actually don't like micellar water because it doesn't work that well. Definitely personal preference.
Oil cleansing gels are my step one on face cleansing to remove my face makeup and neck to remove sunscreen. I have always wanted to try a balm but the oil works too good. 🤷🏻♀️ . Then I go in with my step 2 drugstore face wash. It works for me 😎 I thought an essence / toners are like serums?!? Key 🔑 rule: is to know the ingredients mainly the active ingredients.
Always love watching your videos. Can't say I agree with your take on oil cleansers. Initially, I had the same result as you. But after much trial and error, I finally found one that suited my super sensitive, reactive, dry, mature skin. And for taking off water-resistant sunscreen, a double cleanse works best for me. I follow it up with Vanicream Gentle Cleanser. Never a breakout (shocking and knock on wood).
Please please a video about dry sensitive skin acne prone, everybody assume acne = oily skin! It's so difficult to find products that work for such skin type 😮💨, we need your help! ❤
Am oily acne prone and I love oil cleansers and cleansing balms for breaking down my makeup but always follow up with a gel cleanser to get rid of excess oil and makeup. I’ve used micellar water and I hate the use of pads and all that rubbing. Love giving my face a gentle massage with an oil.
Agree with the oil cleanser part, tried more than 5 products and it breaks me out everytime. My acne and Perioral Dermatitis always flare up when i use oil cleanser. In general, single cleanse and/or double cleansing with micellar water is the best. I use waterproof sunscreen btw, sometimes makeup too.
Thank you for the previous video mentioning Eczema. My 4 year old son has it on his arms, legs, and back and it gets so bad it bleeds. I took him to 2 different doctors and nothing they prescribed or suggested helped him. He just kept flaring up. The Bioderma oil wash and the Aveeno baths work so well! His skin cleared up in 3 days after a year of buying all kinds of products and prescriptions. Now I just need help for my crepe paper eye lids, nothing seems to work or it irritates my eyes. Thank you so much! You are great at what you do ❤
I only disagree about the oil cleanser. Too many other UA-cam and real-life dermatologists recommend double cleansing with an oil-based cleanser first. That's probably also why she said it's a personal choice.
Omg! Only 3 minutes video was posted! Dr. Shereene, I love you 💖💖💖 please, please, please, we are waiting for you amazing products in Europe! Greetings from Latvia. 🫂
I might say i hate water sprays ( and sprays in general because a) waste, b) god knows what preservatives they have). The glycerin water is a fabulous idea!
The video I need. I was considering an oil cleanser for soooo long. I was hesitant because I am so acne prone. But my skin is amazing right now, maybe adding this trend is not worth it for me? Blessed with u dr Idriss
Would be possible to have a video based around the wee vaporiser you mentioned please? Different 'home-made formula' suggestions for different skin types / common concerns, what to look for when purchasing one, etc ?
Oil cleanser from k beauty has been a game changer. But I wash my face with my gel cleanser after. Then spray face with avene. acne prone combo skin and it's actually amazing.
Combo, acne prone and sometimes sensitive skin - i looove me some oil clenaser as the first step, doesn't break me out, i don't like micellar water at all, reduced number of comedones. When it comes to hydrating toners/essences, I use them for hydration/soothing boosting step in my routine instead of the serum, and if i don't use the additional hydration steps it really shows (rationale is following: 200 or 150ml of toner/essence usually costs the same as 30 or 50ml serum, and yes it's less potent, but if no actives in it i can layer few layers of it based on my (de)hydration needs, and so far I've had few who offer impressive hydrating properties and make my skin supple, dewy and happy). So the bottom line when it comes to toner/essence story is you gotta know why you using it for and if you need that objective at all (as for everything else in the skincare)
I have avoided all these because I too have always thought they are unnecessery. However I am now starting to learn about Korean skin care and "glass skin". And most videos I see they always say "toner is important for glass skin". Maybe glass skin is overrated aswell? Dunno:/
Thank you for this! I used to use several products both day and night. My skin looked great, but I got burned out with the excessive routines. So I used up the things that I wanted to cut out and did not repurchase. My routine now is 2-3 products in the morning and (depending on how my skin feels) only 6-7 at night (down from 8-10). AM - Timeless vitamin C 20% Bonajour water cream, if needed (or some other lightweight moisturizer) Sunscreen PM: Vanicream cleanser (I don’t wear make up, so no need really for an oil cleanser. If I have applied a lot of sunscreen throughout the day, I just wash my face twice.) Timeless CoQ10 serum CeraVe nighttime skin renewal moisturizer my prescription tretinoin formulas from Agency for the face And their eye cream (has a little tretinoin in it) Laneige on my lips Sometimes I will use the Cicaplast Balm from LaRoche Posay if I need a little extra moisturizer or if there’s some irritation. And at least one night a week, I will skip the tretinoin and use CeraVe healing ointment or a zinc oxide cream all over.
I am over 60 and I am having problems with nasty superficial bruising, mostly on my lower arms. No one talks about this. I have found out that it is likely due to diminished collagen due to age and sun damage. Do you have any suggestions for how to help prevent and heal this problem?
Hi!💕 I have sensitive oily skin and I was wondering how to gradually introduce silicylic acid, azelaic acid and retinoids without damaging my skin. I love the way you easily explain everything, please keep going💕
I am not particularly acne prone. I use an oil cleanser only when I wear makeup and always follow up with a gel cleanser. I have never been much of a toner person. I have a pretty simple skin care routine. AM: cleanser, serum (vit C or niacinamide/zinc, etc.) and sunscreen/moisturizer. PM: oil cleanser (if necessary), gel cleanser, retinol and moisturizer. I don't always use a separate eye cream. I did get a hyaluronic acid product b/c it was all the trend but I almost never use it for the very reasons you noted. I love your videos and thank you so much for all you do.
Please do an intimate area like wash/shave routine. I feel it is so difficult since it is in the body area but it is sensitive and is very easy to get hyperpigmentation there.
Wash your vulva with soap and water, or sensitive body wash. Do not wash your vagina, ever. She is self cleaning and any kind of wash, douche, feminine wash will upset her ph level. As for shaving - you don’t have to if you don’t want to. Don’t let anyone tell you that you should do, it’s a ridiculous beauty standard which tells women and girls that they should do it to the extreme. Normal washing there too is sufficient. If you want to shave, for yourself, go right ahead. Just make sure you use a sharp razor and sensitive wash.
Basically she’s saying keep it simple. A non foaming cleanse like gel or cream(bc foaming will fry skin out). I love The Ordinary Squalene Cleanser. Then vit c serum, and moisturize. I use Tretnoin after I cleanser and a put a moisturizer barrier on first then the tretnoin, then moisturizer again. That’s it! U don’t need an eye cream bc those are just moisturizer in a small bottle. It’s a rip off. Lastly during the day , use sunscreen !! After u moisturize!!
I use Avene mineral water spray, only because it feels good when I wake up. Not expecting skin care value, just like it. I keep one in the fridge to use in the summer. To remove makeup, I use micellar water.
I have really dry and sensitive skin. Double cleanser Clinique plus a gentle hydrating cleanser gel like Vanicream or Cerave works great for me. I think most of the videos we have available on youtube target oily skin. Haven’t seen much about dry and/or dehydrated skin.
I feel like I am a "young" 62. I've never smoked, and I feel that for my age and having done major sunbathing and tanning bed damage years ago the skin on my face doesn't look that bad. But, those stinking upper lip lines are starting to bother me. I've started using retinol and dark spot remover, and don't want to have a needle stuck in my lip! Lol Thank you!
I just got the hyper serum, and was wondering if I could use it around my eyes, to help with two sun spots on my lower eye lid that drive me crazy when I do my makeup! Loving it so far! It has also helped fade several of my scars to almost nothing! 😊 Thank you Dr Idriss!!!❤❤❤
My dermatologist told me I don’t need to double cleanse and actually recommends an oil cleanser. And dr Emma crathorn a very well know skin dr (dermatologist) uses and recommends the hado labo oil cleanser which emulsifies so you don’t have to go in with a second cleanse xxxx
Bobbi brown oil clenaser is one of the best thing that ever happened to me. I have combination, sensitive and acne prone skin and i would never go back to micelar water... Just make sure you doble cleance with a water based clenser after.
I have discoloration/darkening of the skin on my knees. It started while pregnant and has not gone away. I have PCOS and my glucose has been within non diabetic range (not prediabetic). My dermatologist gave me ammonium lactate cream for the dryness but it’s done nothing for the darkening. It’s shorts season! And people ask me when did I fall and bruise my knees. 😢 I am currently pregnant again so would love to know what I can do now and after. Thank you you’re awesome!
Sooooo, as a licensed esthetician (20 years) I have to disagree on the cleansing oil thing. I've seen faces under a loupe who used only a cleanser.........way, way too many traces of makeup left. If a patient/client wears foundation - they must cleanse twice: cleansing oil or cream (think Albolene cream for theatre workers) then a cleanser of choice. The oil-based first cleanse for acne clients/patients removes the makeup and keeps the impactions soft - because they will pick no matter what you tell them. The second cleanse removes the traces of makeup left behind and refreshes the skin. Other than that point, I agree with your points in the video.
Whatever you say is so true! ❤ If this video was out last month, I would have learnt that I don’t need oil cleanser for my oily face. Waste money on oil cleanser and my skin taking more than a month for my breakouts to subside.
I agree with you on everything except oil cleansers. They work beautifully removing make up and sunscreen on my mature skin without any tugging or rubbing. I am aware your target audience is younger people who are acne prone and agree I would have probably not used an oil cleanser back then
What is your opinion on hypochlorous acid being used daily for redness reduction? And, should it not be used with certain other products? I've heard not to use it prior to a Vitamin C serum.
Oil cleanser is the best. Especially Clinique’s “take the day off” oily cleanser. I have very allergic and prone to breakout frequently skin, and using this oil cleanser for 2 years now. Didn’t even have breakout or anything even for once.
Can you please do a video on your eye make up? You look gorgeous, as always. Thank you for keeping it so real, informative and concise! My skin always looks the best when I take your advice. Thank you!
I always double cleanse when using oil cleansers and will never stop using them. They were a game changer for me, specially because it helps to dissolve blackheads and that extra sebum. I also use a very resistant sunscreens, so I always get the impression micellar water just won't wash it properly no matter how good the product/brand is lol but I believe it's just a matter of taste/preference/skin condition
agree, but the key is to use a moisturising cream cleanser as the second step of cleansing after oil cleanser. i use invity cream cleanser and it smells so therapeutic i always recommend it to my friends to try.
@@AnnaSwan-qv7of yes!! I noticed a big change in my skin health and barrier after I switched the second step to a moisturizing cream cleanser as you mentioned! When I was using a gel cleanser or a acne specific cleanser my skin would be so striped and tense after the double cleansing. Double cleansing and using a creamy foamy cleansing as a second step is a must!
Straight to the point. Love it. It's a shame most of these products, including yours, are not available in Australia or cost a fortune to get shipped here.
I use Thermal water but it's actually to wash my face with in the morning. We have well water and that is not the best for my skin. I also keep one in my hiking bag. And a couple of cans for my hurricane kit.
Can you do a video on suggestions for a routine that coveres everything you need but for people with severe textural issues? For example, I struggle immensely with things being on my skin or "touching me," so i can only use products that disappear fast like serums. Because of this, I struggle wearing any moisturizer or sunscreen. I'd love to start taking care of my skin, but im just not sure how to combat this. It sounds silly however its something I've always dealt with, and i find that a lot of great products aren't good for this, especially for people with dry skin like myself.
I'm still mad about how much we were lied to about hyaluronic acid SMH. Not knowing better I told so many people that they should be using it. I have also always touted the benefits of glycerine so I'm glad to learn that it is even more useful than I thought. What are your thoughts on polyglutamic acid?
Could you do a video for skin care for teens? My son is turning 13 and the acne is starting on his face and back. I would very much like to guide him and i think this acne problem is preventable with proper skin care.
Thank you! I'm currently 30 years old, and I consider my skincare routine sufficient for my needs. In my 20s, my routine mainly involved a cleanser and a moisturizer. Transitioning to using a cleanser, vitamin C, retinol, SPF, and a moisturizer feels like a significant step for me. I also make sure to use an exfoliant once a week. However, the internet constantly reminds me that I should be incorporating additional products such as toners, sprays, and oils into my routine. The products I currently use are already quite expensive, and repurchasing them all the time feels like robbing my bank account. Where do people find the means to buy all these products?
I have a request, Dr. Idriss. I’ve had bad melasma and hyperpigmentation for years. I accidentally came across a video of yours in February and I changed my skin care under your guidance, I suppose. :-) my skin started changing with 4-5 days. Thanks to you, now 4 months later, my melasma has faded by almost 90%. My questions are - should I continue or stop for now ? Do I need to have a kind of maintainance skin care routine forever to keep my melasma suppressed ? Or can I go off all the acids that helped me me fade my melasma ? Thank you
Don’t believe influencers when they endorse a product especially those who are not doctors. They are paid to do that. Skin care is also trial and error. What works for you may not work for your bestfriend. I have been using oil cleansers followed by a cream cleanser at night for 15yrs and it really keeps my skin blackhead free (im normal to dry sometimes). Thanks for the very informative video Dr. Idriss!❤❤❤
So I've been avoiding the sun, both in terms of using SPF every day, avoiding the sun, using umbrellas, wearing SPF-resistant clothes (mostly) if I am out in the water all day or something. Something I've been wondering lately is if you think there is any validity to a light amount of sun exposure every day? I'm talking 5-10 minutes each side (or feel free to define what you would consider an acceptable definition of light amount). Idk if a dose-makes-the-poison type of thought is valid with this, in that building up slowly might have some benefits? Or is this definitely going to age your skin prematurely?

2- toner essence without knowing purpose , no over exfoliation no over hydration is key
3 - hyluronic acid serum
4- watery essence in spray , thermal waters = they calm redness but not hydrating, for hydration make your own mist

I remember a video about SK-II with Pitera-would you recommend that as an essence before the Dr Idress serum if the user could afford it?
Thank you
@@seralynn7286 Thank you for your helpful reply🙂
Just used mild soap and that’s all you need and eat healthy.
I love Tatcha oil cleanser but always follow it with Jordan Samuel After Show. Need to double cleanse at night using a lot of sunscreen lately
@@catnip4587 well done 💫
yes totally!!!
Which sunscreen u like the most
off topic but it's always great seeing a guy engage in skincare since so many seem opposed for whatever reason.
I love oil cleaning and water based cleanser combination!!
I find it to be a better investment & more therapeutic:
- La Roche-Posay Rosaliac Micellar Make Up Removal Gel 195ml
Then follow up with whatever active acne treatment that addresses the type of acne you have as your second cleanse:
- CeraVe Blemish Control Cleanser 236ml (2% Salicylic Acid)
- The Inkey List Acne Solution 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser 150ml
- De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment 73.7g (10% Sulfur)
- Q+A Oat Milk Cream Cleanser 125ml (Colloidal oats is not necessarily an acne treatment but it does help by repairing an inflamed Skin Barrier)
Hope this helps!
I have dry, dehydrated, sensitive skin. Adding an oil cleanser to my routine was a game changer. My skin looks so much cleaner and brighter. I also love my toners and essences. I love how they make my skin feel. I know my routine isnt right for everyone, but it works for me. 😉☺️
Same here, I have dry, sensitive skin and this works for me as well!
Same! Mature dry skin here. Oil cleansers are the best first cleanse for me.
Ditto re: oil cleansers. And because I wear water-resistant sunscreen, it's a must.
Same. It helps lift the dead skin off 👍
Me too. Dry and sensitive skin. Always glowing using just jojoba or almond oil and a warm flannel. Never had any issues and been doing it for yonks.
@hkaur2732 can you please explain what you mean by peri-ocular retinols?
@@PanteraBagiraLadyretinol eye creams basically. Periocular means around the eyes
How about retinal? I have an eye cream with a low concentration retinal that doesn't feel too harsh in that area. Do you recommend avoiding those too? Thanks!
Thank you for this comment. Do you have a suggestion for a similar active that is safe for use around the eyes?
I just wanted to put this out there in case anyone starts doubting oil cleansers now.
what oil cleanser do you use? :)
@Aerie925
Which oil cleansers do you recommend? I have 52 yr old slightly oily skin with texture. Thank you! 😊

For blackheads and enlarged pores/sebaceous filaments - salicylic acid cleansers and more importantly sulfur cleanser! Omg my skin is transformed.
Your information about skin type and climate is very helpful.
how do you keep your skin hydrated with just a gel moisturizer? /gen
For someone in early 40s, my skin looks good 😊
How do u remove your makeup?
As a medical aesthetician yes to all except I have an issue with the toner comment. Skin is a ph between 4.5 and 5.5 naturally acidic. So when you use a cleanser and wash off with water. The ph of the skin becomes alkaline due to the use of water (also why you may feel drying or stripping to the skin after washing off) The toner helps to bring the skins natural ph back down.
Oil attracts oil so using an oul cleanser works as long as i follow it up with a foaming cleanser to remove the oil leftover. I find oil clensers breakdown waterproof sunscreen the best.
Same it’s so good!
I use an oil cleanser because it gets my sunscreen off. Using just a cleanser doesn’t work for me breaks me out. Every skin is different
Same here
I will always choose an oil-based cleanser or cleansing balm over a micellar water.
Same! It just doesn't work for me:
Bruhhhh. It's literal placebo! Ask a doc loool
It does NOTWORK BRUH. u can just wish for good skin and then get it. I see this scammy ass comment under every skincare video.
@@franekkkkk I read everything lol
But with the micellar water you have to wipe and wipe with a cloth, especially to get off that mascara. That irritates and stresses my skin out more than the oil cleanser. I do use DHC oil cleanser to break up all the makeup and sunscreen, then i wash my face. It doesn't break me out, which is surprising (combo skin) but I also don't leave it on; it's just a makeup remover.
My mom used Avene spray because it did calm her skin when it felt like it was burning (she had dry skin eczema). I really wish I'd found out about the glycerin mixture before she passed away. She would have loved it.
Haha I bought avene thermal water spray for my friend with rosacea based on Dr idriss rosacea video

mind if i ask do you know why HA dries out your skin?
Totally this! I thought I was crazy and everyone said it can't do that but everytime it would cause my skin to get inflamed. I was so thankful when Dr. Idriss uploaded that hyaluronic acid video
@@user-kw1hq-r8o iirc, it’s because HA binds water to it (one of the reasons it is said to have a damp skin when applying HA serums), and when using too much HA it binds too much moisture and even start to draw it from deeper in your skin.

Wil never give up an oil cleanser to remove makeup and sunscreen, and the mineral sprays. They’re so refreshing during the hot months
Matured normal skin type. I do double cleanse with cleansing oil follow by the cleansing oil, and it does not break me out. The cleansing oil does not strip excess moisture from the skin.
Also some Essences and toners can be fantastic depending how you incorporate it in your routine
Idriss! 🙏😊💜
Toners make my skin feel so good!
I use a rose water spray and a pha/bha toner before serums. It just feels so nice!
THANK YOU for being so practical and no nonsense. Im a senior on a government pension and cant afford a plethora of luxury skincare .

A good one
why would you add it if you already have it in all your products?
I don't have oily skin so I love oil cleaners. I have found they work the best to remove makeup. I actually don't like micellar water because it doesn't work that well. Definitely personal preference.
Oil cleansing gels are my step one on face cleansing to remove my face makeup and neck to remove sunscreen. I have always wanted to try a balm but the oil works too good. 🤷🏻♀️ . Then I go in with my step 2 drugstore face wash. It works for me 😎
I thought an essence / toners are like serums?!?

Thanks Dr Idriss. I would like to know your opinion on topical estrogen as anti-aging ingredient.

Would be possible to have a video based around the wee vaporiser you mentioned please? Different 'home-made formula' suggestions for different skin types / common concerns, what to look for when purchasing one, etc ?
I absolutely love the Medik8 oilcleanser. Using this cleanser and then the CeraVé hydrating cleanser will leave my 51 year old skin soft and clean.

I want to see her thoughts on those viral LMW collagen masks that people claim give instant glass skin.
AM - Timeless vitamin C 20%
Bonajour water cream, if needed (or some other lightweight moisturizer)
Sunscreen
PM: Vanicream cleanser (I don’t wear make up, so no need really for an oil cleanser. If I have applied a lot of sunscreen throughout the day, I just wash my face twice.)
Timeless CoQ10 serum
CeraVe nighttime skin renewal moisturizer
my prescription tretinoin formulas from Agency for the face
And their eye cream (has a little tretinoin in it)
Laneige on my lips
Sometimes I will use the Cicaplast Balm from LaRoche Posay if I need a little extra moisturizer or if there’s some irritation.

Hi!💕
I have sensitive oily skin and I was wondering how to gradually introduce silicylic acid, azelaic acid and retinoids without damaging my skin.
I love the way you easily explain everything, please keep going💕
Dr. Shereene, please do a video on Korean mineral sunscreens for sensitive skin.
Would love to see life vlogs more than sit down videos, because honestly your personality and humor will shine on vlogs!
Good topic! Her ideas for razor bumps would be nice to hear with that
Basically she’s saying keep it simple.
I love how you always wear such colorful clothing ❤
I can't believe oil clenser is in this video, since i started using it my skin improved so much
My dermatologist told me I don’t need to double cleanse and actually recommends an oil cleanser. And dr Emma crathorn a very well know skin dr (dermatologist) uses and recommends the hado labo oil cleanser which emulsifies so you don’t have to go in with a second cleanse xxxx
Thank you for confirming my thoughts regarding hyaluronic acid
Bobbi brown oil clenaser is one of the best thing that ever happened to me. I have combination, sensitive and acne prone skin and i would never go back to micelar water... Just make sure you doble cleance with a water based clenser after.

I have discoloration/darkening of the skin on my knees. It started while pregnant and has not gone away. I have PCOS and my glucose has been within non diabetic range (not prediabetic).
As for oil cleansing, it gets the job done only if followed by a water-based cleanser.
Whatever you say is so true! ❤
If this video was out last month, I would have learnt that I don’t need oil cleanser for my oily face.
She has recommended hypochlorite acid in the past, but iirc it was for acne because it kills the bacteria
Oil cleanser is the best. Especially Clinique’s “take the day off” oily cleanser. I have very allergic and prone to breakout frequently skin, and using this oil cleanser for 2 years now. Didn’t even have breakout or anything even for once.
To be honest, oil cleanser for some peaple really works.I just think that it depends on skin

This makeup look 🤌 The hair too! You're glowing!

Dr. Idriss and Dr. Dray are favorite dermatologist in youtube.
I use Thermal water but it's actually to wash my face with in the morning. We have well water and that is not the best for my skin. I also keep one in my hiking bag. And a couple of cans for my hurricane kit.
For those whose skin doesn’t agree with traditional oil cleansing, you should try baby shampoo! Rub onto dry skin, rinse off.
You look very good and natural!
As someone with eczema prone sensitive skin, thermal spring water is a must for me. Hydrotherapy works at least for me ❤
I have a request, Dr.
