I read the whole series plus all the side stories and loved them! The first 2 books does feel like a set-up for the later series. Book 3 : The Source is my favorite with the Vampire Wars trilogy a close second! Apparently, the rights to this property were bought, so we may see a series or movies coming in the near future! Here's to hoping and RIP to Brian Lumley! For someone who read King, Koontz, etc, I found Brian Lumley's prose a little hard to swallow, but make it to Book 3, it does pay off! Cheers

Necroscope seems ripe a series or movie. Could be great if the script writer can capture the horror/fantasy/cold war spies blend. Thanks for dropping in!

Just finished listening to the audio, really enjoyed it - lots of unintended laughs but also the pacing is pretty tight, you can tell he had a set formula - exposition, sex, exposition, violence - rinse & repeat. Went right into Terrortome and was suppressing laughs all the way home today on the train. Nice to turn the brain off after "New Sun" lol.

Haha, It really is a fun series that takes itself just a bit too seriously. I worry that someone might think I’m mocking it, but no, this is a great time.
Lumley is pretty important in the preservation of Lovecraft too. There was some sort of fallout with him and Sandy Peterson about Lumley’s IP in the Call of Cthulhu ttrpg (who I think is the reason Lovecraft is almost a household name now… and sorry for the info dump)
I’m literally reading Incarcerat (Terrortome’s sequel) right now to wind down from Shadow of the Torturer so this is awesome and hilarious. 😆

Another great video! I remember seeing those incredible covers in the bookstore as a teenager, but I've never read them. Listening to your video I can tell they aren't for me, but I can see why people would like them. Great thumbnail and watching you try to read out the back blurb was making me laugh out loud.

Thanks. Necroscope can be fun, but not something I’d recommend to most people.
I had no idea before I started that the burb was such a perfect microcosm of the book. It was a very entertaining discovery. Whoever wrote it deserves a writing credit. 😆

I first read the first book in this series nearly 30 years ago. As someone who has an intuitive understanding of maths I was immediately hooked and could not stop until I had finished the Necroscope series and the Vampire Wars series. Even now, remembering the plot lines and how the entire series was interwoven makes me long for an adaptation for television. I don't think it would work as a film series simply because of the multiple story arcs that become more convoluted after the first book. Still...great review.

I think it would make a great tv series. I keep hoping to see some new readership for this series.

I started reading it as a teen and thought it was too pulpy, precocious brat that I was lol. I must give it another go, might get some unintentional laughs out of it.

You probably weren’t too far off. If you do read it I wish you luck.
Alternately you could give F. Paul Wilson’s “The Tomb” (aka Repairman Jack 1) a try. A great series with similar subjects and better writing. And Stephen King was the president of the Repairman Jack fan club if that peaks your interest. 🤷🏻‍♂️.
      Thanks for stopping by!

Ive read them all. The second and fourth books were the best (Vamphyri, and Deadspeak, respectively), but I would recommend reading them in order.

I just happened to cone across the necroscope and the vampire world series around the time of the xfiles was starting. The EBranch stuff hit an itch that x files created.
I have the audible book for the orginal but i have been leery that it won't hold up to 13 year old mes memories.

We probably both read this series around the same time and I had the exact same concern for a reread. To some extent Necroscope’s star has faded for me, but there’s still something there to enjoy. I’d like to revisit “Vamphyri!” too but it’ll be a while. The Source just went sideways. Not a bad book but not what I expected.

Humm, The King in Yellow, I need to reread that too. Would make a good lead in to a Vamphyri reread.

Book 2 ratchets things up nicely. Book 3… when you’ve read book 3 let me know what you think.

3’s direction was so unexpected. I do remember 4 being good too but its been a very long time. I liked 2 the most but I have a very specific good memory of buying that book that makes the whole experience very biased. I’ve always been curious about the spinoff series that 3 sort of introduced… maybe someday. Thanks for stopping in!

My brother in Christ, PLEASE ENUNCIATE YOUR WORDS! You mumble and slur your words and it gets pretty hard to decifer when you speak quickly, which is all the time.
