The best part of these trains is you can't not get kill on getting run over by the train. There plenty of safe space under it. It would hurt getting hit but you'll probably will survive being hit.

Japan really is at the forefront of public transportation! Trains run on time even with all the earthquakes, monsoons and tsunamis. Here in Finland the trains stop running if the sun is shining a little too brightly, busses break down if there's even a drizzle, and let's not even talk about snowfall which seems to catch everyone off guard every year at the same exact time. 😅

This is what a first world country should look like. Here in the US, nothing works. Everything is always broken, or vandalised, or worse. The train system/public transportation is an absolute joke in the US.

@@look_my_daddy I know. You would think that there would be some public transportation from Orlando Airport to Port canaveral, given all the cruise ships leaving there, but NoOOoOoOo you have to pay a $100 for a taxi ride and I, a tourist from europe, had to give HIM instructions on how to get there although it was my first time ever in the U.S. 🙄

It's very embarrassing that the USA is terrible in public transportation. Heavily car dependent and makes cities very unwalkable. People in the USA are affected with 'carbrain' mentality where they become extremely hostile and angry whenever a pubic transportation is proposed. I'm glad that the place where I'm living in has decent public transportation, but it must be improved even more. I feel very sad for those in the USA that doesn't want to waste a lot of money on a car, gas, insurance, repairs, etc. and would rather save thousands of dollars a year through public transportation.

Have come across one in Germany - the Wuppertal Schwebabahn. It certainly seems to be a very practical people-mover solution where town space is a constraint (helps to limit the amount of infrastructure), distances travelled are fairly short (would not work well for a large city), and it avoids the need for tunnels.

The rails in Japan look more modern, so like the Sky Train at the Dusseldorf airport. But in Wuppertal the construction is a protected memorial, so it must keep at the style of 1901, only with more modern equipment.

Truly incredible and great video! I wonder why countries like the US and others around the world don't build more public infrastructure like this.

a free ticket, but it's 610 Yen. Funny defintion of free ;) Always enjoy seeing the suspended monorail. Quite different from what we got everywhere else, and despite of what Tom Scott thinks, there are loads of benefits to building a railway this way

This type of train is very useful in hilly terrain where it would be too steep or too expensive for subways.
    But...
The downside is that they use 100x more steel than standard surface rail.
Instead of two rails and concrete sleepers, they require a heavy rail guide box and suspension pillars otherwise not needed by surface rail.
These are much more expensive to install and maintain but because the rail guide is an excluded box it can run in all weather, even heavy snow.

The original "sky train" is in Wuppertal, germany!
It's called Schwebebahn ( floating train ) and it's tracks are built over the river "Wupper" ( Wuppertal -> Wupper valley ), following it for 13 km.
It was constructed over 120 years ago and opened in 1901. In all of it's lifetime, there has only been one accident with injuries/casulties in 1999 + only a handful minor incidents.
It has been named the safest transportation method in the world.
