I'm a professional headshot photographer (in Chicago) and a dear friend of mine in San Diego was asking me how to self-take better headshots of himself. I told him it was next to impossible to get a good headshot selfie, and it was also going to be difficult for me to describe everything he needed to do over the phone, without demonstrating it. Anyway, I found your video and thought it was very helpful. The couple things I would add are as follows: I noticed that you're both taking photos of each other from under eye level. I would hold the camera right around eye level. This is really important if the subject is older or heavier. You're both young and cute and slim, so, it's not a big deal, but for others, holding the camera at eye level or slightly above can make a much more flattering photo. Also, try seating people on a stool and have them lean forward a bit, point one knee toward the camera and another 45 degrees off to the side. Have the subject lean forward slightly. This will help define the jawline of anyone who is carrying extra weight. Also, for older subjects, be sure to take it from slightly above eye level as this will make loose skin and wrinkles smooth out a bit. You're welcome. 🙂
Sorry to be so off topic but does anyone know a method to log back into an instagram account..? I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any tricks you can offer me
Thank you for the ease of this video! It made it simple enough I feel like I can do this for what I need and not stress over it! Most videos are too technical for me to understand and this was perfect! ❤
Wide angle distortion from the standard iPhone lens makes headshots look slightly weird, however, with body and facial proportions rendering as a bit off. That's something important to keep in mind if your smartphone camera doesn't have a "telephoto" lens, which won't cause such distortions.
Ya at the time of making this video the telephoto lens quality wasn't as good as the image coming from the wide angle lens. Something we should have clarified. These days it seems liek the telephoto lens quality is getting better and bettter!
This was super helpful. I might have missed it, if you mentioned it, Can the pictures you edit with VSCO be printed in high resolution? I might be asking the question, I am not photgraph savvy, I just want to print the picture in an 8X10 with very good resolution. THANKS!
Hi Nikki! Definitely. Using an editing app like VSCO doesn't change the resolution. In fact, when you export the photo it asks you if you want to keep the original resolution of the image. 8x10 prints should look great.
Thanks sooooo mch! After spending $150+ on a professional photography studio and having the outcome not resembling me, am taking on this advice! Thx! ✌️
Would love to share it! am using it for LinkedIn professional job applications, would like to land an interview and see how it goes from there.I don’t mind to share this results from profile photo to what hopefully’ll become a professional job opportunity. ✌️
This video gave me so many great ideas, now if only I had someone to take my picture since Ive got no selfie skills. Guess Ill be asking strangers everyday haha.
My editing effects aren’t carrying over to LinkedIn. I used VSCO and it showed up dark when I added the photo on LinkedIn and I had to use their edits. Perhaps I’m doing something wrong?
Sir what is front facing headshot photo...It is a requirement in one vacancy ....it was written- Upload your front facing headshot photo but not a passport size photo...Can you pls tell me the difference between the "FRONT FACING HEADSHOT PHOTO" & "PASSPORT SIZE PHOTO"
Hi I'm a 9-year-old actor with a question, If you take a portrait on a phone how do you print it out properly or how do you turn that in because most headshots need to be stapled to the back of your resume. Thanks
Hey Matias! Great question. I would recommend uploading the photo files to get them printed through a good printing website. Our recommendation is a website called www.mpix.com they are really great and cheap 😀 - best of luck!
I’m not sure I like that the exposure blows out the texture on one side of the wall making the photo look artificial. Is there a way to mask the subject in vsco?
Hey Avery. Good thoughts. No nothing like that is a part of VSCO. I would recommend using an app called snapseed. It has some more advanced editing features that could be helpful for something like that.
Kiyah Ellison all the same lighting tips apply. You just won’t have the depth effect provided by portrait mode. If you really want it though you could always borrow a friends phone who has it?
Good question Rachelle! We've found that the 2x image quality is much worse than the 1x - often grainy. That might be different with the 12pro - we haven't tried that lens system yet.
Hey, is there a filter that will remove ageism in employers? Seriously, great video, even if I have to deal with this never-acknowledged reason for unemployment
omg Shit I found this website that you can sell your pictures (I personally take pictures with my iPhone 11 Pro max) and I have already made some bank!!!

Awesome advice thank you!
Hey Gary! Love these extra tips - maybe we should make a follow up to this video with your input :)
@@eicharphotography210those are things I didn't even think of. Also, is there a preference for teeth smile or closed mouth smile?
Getting sharp clear shots is harder than it looks, kahma knows just how to brighten your whole profile.

#The iPhone portrait mode is nice but with kahma you get HD portraits of anyone even grandma!
Wow I never thought of using portrait mode, always just used the front camera. Gonna give this a shot and see if I can look less goofy.
You two are such a sincere joy to watch. Thank you for sharing. Really enjoyed the content!

Take the memory card or email the photo to yourself and take it to Walgreens, CVS, or similar stores to get it printed.
Hey Matias! Great question. I would recommend uploading the photo files to get them printed through a good printing website. Our recommendation is a website called www.mpix.com they are really great and cheap 😀 - best of luck!

great video with simple tips, great atmosphere. I love your relationship :)
Very helpful!!!!! Thank you
You guys are amazing. Which phone model are you using? Can I get the same quality with iphone 11 or 10?
I’m not sure I like that the exposure blows out the texture on one side of the wall making the photo look artificial. Is there a way to mask the subject in vsco?
Hey Avery. Good thoughts. No nothing like that is a part of VSCO. I would recommend using an app called snapseed. It has some more advanced editing features that could be helpful for something like that.
It's much easier when you are good looking.
How would we do that if our phone doesn’t have portrait mode?
Kiyah Ellison all the same lighting tips apply. You just won’t have the depth effect provided by portrait mode. If you really want it though you could always borrow a friends phone who has it?
Do you know what the photo resolution is for the iPhone photos?
Hi Rochelle, the resolution of an image on our iPhone 11 Pro comes out to 3024 × 4032 - it's a 12 megapixel camera
Eichar Photography i don’t have a pro. I have an 11.
good tips but why wouldn't you use the 2x. using 1x gives you the alien head small body look because of the wide angle.
Good question Rachelle! We've found that the 2x image quality is much worse than the 1x - often grainy. That might be different with the 12pro - we haven't tried that lens system yet.
Hi guys... Recommend me an app to edit photos... PLEASE!!!...
Hey Raul, VSCO is great
I have iPhone 6s so I don’t have that sadly.
cute!

My mom sent me this video 🥲
the girl takes much better photos than the guy. he did not even told her to get straighten up.
Haha, she is an amazing photographer :)
Dude you made her left arm disappear with all of that contrast. Please tell me that you are not really a photographer or a photo editor.
