    I'm only a few months into slingshots, but so far I've found that my favorite plinking ammo is clay balls. For hunting purposes, I've had very good results with 7/16"(11.1mm) steel. I just picked up a mold for pouring 000 buckshot. Those fly straight and hit pretty dang hard!

    I've recently started getting back in to using my old slingshot, my grandmother had it wrapped up in multiple plastic bags from when she took it away from me back when I was a child a few decades ago. The rubber bands were still in great shape for the first couple hours.
    As old as it was, it still had more power than I had expected.
    I've thought about purchasing an order of 1600 clay rounds, I live around a farm land location. So I figure it will be much safer for me to practice with those rounds during the pandemic.

    Clay because I don’t feel bad about using a lot for target practice because they are bio degradable and I don’t have to worry about the steel ball or marble ricocheting at me but do like steel ammo because it does more damage

      Clay balls are covered with a lite coating of ceramic and the ceramic breaks on the ball when pulling back on pouch and gets stuck in your figures. And you can feel it every time you pull on any ammo ball. So be careful with clay bought balls for slingshot ammo. Steel balls and lead are the best.

    • @tschmonney
      @tschmonney 3 роки тому +2

      Ive noticed that the clay balls are effected more by outside variables like wind and can tend to curve slightly in a direction causing you to miss a shot when it would have been a hit. The steel balls have more mass and are more dense and for me at least tend to be more accurate. They fly in straight line with extremely little to no deviation at longer ranges. I prefer the clay balls at close range though since ricochets are more of a problem and the lower accuracy of the clay balls is almost non noticeable close up.

    • @miiigoreng
      @miiigoreng 3 роки тому +3

      @@tschmonney steel balls have been pleasant to shoot in vast uninhabited places. Whereas in urban places, 20 meters are kinda the alleyway lengths without much wind interferances. Clays give the best assurance nothing gets broken in unimagined places. Each has its pros and cons

    I use 8mm steel ball bearings from a bearing supplier. If you shop around you can get pretty good deals, some sell the very same thing at HALF the price of others. Also- make a backdrop with a blanket or something to CATCH your ammo. Being able to go up and recover 100 balls to use again saves you a ton of money. 8mm steel are fast and accurate.

      @BerlonBurch  5 років тому +1

      That's a good question. Lead balls are the in between ammo. Meaning they are heavier than a marble but lighter than stainless steel. I put them in a class for target shooting. For hunting small game possibly but at really close range. The trajectory will be similar to a marble but will drop off sooner as the lead ball will have imperfections. But that's getting too picky. All in all, use what you have. If you are in competition use what is legal. And above all else be safe and have fun.

    • @dougpruden9019
      @dougpruden9019 5 років тому +1

      That's not true. Lead weight is about a third more than stainless steel in the same diameter. Also has the added benefit of lower ricochet. It makes excellent hunting ammo. Really the only downside is not environmentally friendly .

    I have to disagree with them not being fine for hunting. It depends more on what kind of bands you use. I only use Therbands, and speargun rubber on my conventional slingshots, and they break 200 fps with steel balls. Clay balls are lighter and go much faster, over 250 fps in some cases. This is approaching the lower end of air rifle speeds, with a much larger projectile than a .177 or .22 bb or pellet. I hunt small game with mine all the time and regularly kill game up to the size of Norway Rats ( up to 20" long and a weight of 2+ lbs).
    I guess it's probably a matter of opinion, but I have no trouble hunting with clay balls. But I have been known to use rocks as well, so take it for what it's worth. BTW, my main slingshot is a Pocket Shot with a heavyweight pouch. I think these are the ultimate slingshots. They hit like a ton of bricks.

    • @JoelBrothers
      @JoelBrothers 2 роки тому

      @@MangaGamified No way. I can still shoot the fleas off a dog with mine up to 15 yards. Seriously, I don't know about all of them because there are a lot of Chinese copies out there, mostly on EBay, but mine shoots just as accurate as any of my other slingshots, and hits a lot harder. I even shoot crossbow bolts with mine, and it shoots as fast as the lower end of bows, around 100 fps, and it shoots as straight as any bow of similar draw weight.
      I would definitely recommend that everyone get one and try it. It fits in your pocket, hits like a sledgehammer, and doesn't cost that much. It's about the cost of a good Moorhammer, or Dankun ( not the replicas. The real thing).😀

      @@JoelBrothers Well can u blame me? I tried watching some videos myself, but the rumors do has a bit of merit, I watched some like that Fowler's video and sometimes his assistant of sort. 90% of my slingshots are made in china or china market, I learned that it's the bands that carries the slingshot. Pocketability does sell to me, but I got a bit of a problem, I might get teased for this looking like a rubber/condom, and I leave my thumbnails a bit longer even when I trim consistently. I'm not too well of, I don't collect like what I've seen in groups, forums and videos. I already plan to sell one or two of my not so used slingshots.

      Well, several factors are in play here. You say the dove was injured. So I assume a body shot instead of a head shot. The ball bearing size is good. So the next thing is the band. You state it is a 65 mm. flat band which should do the trick.

      Arrow speed is too slow from a slingshot, and why bother? Good traditional bows are relatively inexpensive. The right tool for the right job. I do use fishing arrows in my Pocket Shot (with the arrow kit) for bow fishing from my kayak, and they work very well. But you don't need much power or speed for bow fishing. All you need is accuracy. I also shoot frogs with it.
