A more important angle would be "what are the NON CRICKETING reasons determining Rohit and Virat's privileged selection in recent years?" Let's get the cats out of the bag, Jarrod.
It’s not non cricketing reasons. Kohli has years and years of goodwill banked with the BCCI that he’s cashing in rn with his form dip. Rohit on the other hand is using captaincy and BCCIs niceness to keep his place (he really has no goodwill in redball). That’s what it is
@@sidddhaarthsrikanth This is exactly the thing. Yes, they had a goodwill. But, I don't think someone should be in the team averaging 25-30 for four years straight.
@@sidddhaarthsrikanthRohit was making runs and making us win in India when no other batter could score a run over the last 4 years. The NZ series was the first one where his form dropped off
Virat's problem is that he's always looking at Sachin playing at 40-42. The problem with that is Sachin was a regular when he was 16-22 but they had a reasonable schedule back then and no IPL.. Now there's a big tournament every year. Virat already has the wear and tear on him of a 40 year old due to the packed schedule whether he likes it or not. He should prioritize one format with the IPL, same with Rohit. India has lost a whole generation of players in the 26-30 age range cus these two are stubborn. And Jadeja is stubborn. And Ashwin was stubborn.
Kohli will never be dropped. He will only leave on his terms. The BCCI know how important he is money wise and popular he is to his fans and viewers. Just like Tendulkar was.
Kohli would have even worked out this problem but does he have enough time to do it? He will play ODI series against Eng, then Champions Trophy, then IPL and then directly the Test series in Eng. He is such a busy player and when it's the case it's very hard to take time out and work on your weaknesses. Others like Smith, Root and Williamson don't play IPL and they get that extra preparation time for tests. I feel he should not play IPL this year and work on his Test game because that's where his legacy will be remembered and not his IPL stats.
I recall kohli claiming that test cricket is his favourite format of the game. His life doesn't depend on the IPL, I don't see a valid reason to not skip ipl and play some county cricket if he actually wants to be selected and prove himself.
@someguy-he2nj Yeah he should either play county or hire a personal coach to work on this issue but this won't happen because playing for RCB is actually a business thing and even BCCI will want him in IPL for their business. Anyway his choices now will determine if he will be remembered as a player who has more than 10k test runs or ends his career with an avg of 45 and under 10k.
Weirdly enough I think the ODIs are going to make his test game better provided he does well in them. Less ODIs he plays the more he struggles in the other formats. He did well in 2023 tests. Look at the no. Of ODIs and his performance in the format. Didn't do well in 2015 ODIs and that year was his poorest from 2012 till 2019.
If Indian cricket was run on pure cricketing merit, Kohli would have been dropped around the end of 2022. He is averaging 30 in 5 years. How much more rope can a cricketer get? Seeing him get out again and again in the exact same way, knowing that would be the trap was embarrassing to watch. Its unlikely to get any better in swinging conditions. The trouble is that he is such a draw in terms of viewership, and he's arguably still the biggest star in world cricket, that no one in the BCCI has the guts to drop him. Its just sad that a player that was once averaging mid 50's is now averaging under 47. I think the other issue with Indian cricket is that we are so immediately reactive. If India go in with a young side to Eng and loose badly, then people will scream about how they should never drop Kohli and Rohit. As Indian fans, we need to be patient and allow a young side to lose and learn from the losses. The Kohli/Rohit/Rahane/Pujara generation lost every SENA series until 2018-19 BGT. Transition has to be allowed but I highly doubt BCCI will have the courage to drop Kohli. Like Jarrod, I would maybe give Rohit another series, but I wouldn't be against him being dropped as well.

This is not flat deck era except pak at home more toughest deck then sewag Sachin era they enjoyed more flat decks
WTC decks are toughest @@fahadalam8322
@@fahadalam8322he played all 3 formats like a god for over a decade, so if 27300+ runs don’t make you a an all time great, you need cricketing lessons loser
@@fahadalam8322Yes he’s not an all time great in Tests but this is NOT a flat track era. This is the farthest from flat tracks we have ever been
The pitches that India play on in India are crap. that is the reason for 30 average. batters dont get any rhythm because of the shitty pitches. This is because Ashwin and Jadeja are ordinary.
Nowadays due to WTC the pitches are tough guys. India lost the BGT due to the ordinary bowlers. they could not even get Travis Head out. Even Pak and WI got him out easily
Ashwin Jadeja Rohit Kohli all overstayed and should have retired in 2023.
Soon people are gonna eat their words 😇

@@iamhugeandsquare How soon? After 10 years?
Virat Kohli deserves one last hurrah in Test Cricket, a format he has done so much for. But Rohit is not really a Test Captain.
"I would keep Rohit and remove Kohli."
Ok, Kimber. What a ridiculous idea. Both should go, obviously. Ask anyone with cricketing knowledge, like Ian Chappell.
Jarrod is the greatest out there mate
@@midfielderlounge2592 If he's that good, he should be able to tell that Rohit's in far worse touch than Kohli rn and that it has everything to do with age. Kohli, too, doesn't deserve a spot because he's not performing.
