Fun and great vid! :) It would be even better if you mentioned that lyrics of that 'vocaloid' sound are not just 'hataraku UFO', but they are varied by situation (in 11:09, it's actually 'tatakau UFO' means 'fighting UFO', in shop they say 'kaimono UFO' - shopping ufo, and in treasure island 'otakara UFO' - treasure hunting ufo, etc...)
Thank you so much for doing my request, and for doing Part Time UFO justice! I really loved the way you explained how the variations of each melody reflect the stages they represent!
I love that the museum theme has a sense of humour! With how the vocals come in at a whisper as if they're trying to stay quiet and respectful to the other visitors!
I adore everything about this game. I want it to become massively popular and start getting referenced everywhere. I want the little guy as an assist trophy.
My brain was trying to finish the song as that theme, and it wasn't until a good 20 minutes after finishing this video that it finally figured out what song that was.
"My headcanon is that the rapid arpeggio represents the fast upward movement of the UFO and the vocaloid is the two UFOs singing together" THAT'S SO FUCKING **CUTE**
Same goes for the OST of Super Mario Land 2: 6 Gold Coins. A single motif and usage of a range of genres and harmonic choices can create so much from so little.
I love how people are finally seeing how great this game is. From the really simple gameplay and the really charming music, this game is seriously just an incredibly fun to play
Ugh as if I didn't have enough praise for this soundtrack as a listener; I think this is maybe the clearest example of the tonic, the 5th and the 3rd in terms of what they sound like I've ever heard from a critical perspective - what textbook Nintendo composition! They're working hard over there, work hard. In Japanese, Hataraku. HA--TA-RAKU-UUUUFO~
Whoa, there's multiplayer on Switch? Might just have to double-dip then. The mobile game is great, but this seems like a perfect addition. The music is so catchy, I love the little phrase sang at the end.
one of my favorite things you do is show us examples of what a song would sound like without a certain technique. we all really appreciate the extra effort :)
Oh... give me a home. Where the Buffalo roam. And the deer and the antelope play. Where seldom is heard. A mysterious word. And the skies are not cloudy all day......🎵🎶
My request is for the music for Conker’s Bad Fur Day. If nothing else, I think it would be hilarious to see an academic musical analysis of a song being sung by a sentient literal pile of excrement.
Worth mentioning, but at the final battle theme, the “Hatarake UFO” (Part time UFO) is replaced with “Tatakae UFO” (Fighting UFO), which is a cool little change that is both cute and inspiring.
It's good to know this soundtrack was done by Shogo Sakai. The music when you reach 50 metres in the Tower of Infinity instantly reminded me of his work on Rainbow Curse.
There's something so magical about Shogo Sakai's arpeggios. You can really notice his approach whether it's from here or a track like Refreshing Toilets
Dude your videos always brighten up my day. You make me love the things i love even more! Plus, my girlfriend and I are musicians, but she isnt as into video games, and your videos really help bridge that gap so thank you! Youre the man.
Cute music? My type of soundtrack. Watching now~ EDIT: NGL. The main theme here sounds similar to that rodeo song from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. The "MegaMan battle" arrangement of the main theme was my favorite and definitely fitting for the final boss. Another wonderful video! Thank you so much for this!
Definitely my favorite in a while. Love your other stuff, but I'm a sucker for the side-by-sides and when you alter a song to highlight how it does something well.
I like Part Time UFO soundtrack as much as I like Snipper Clips soundtrack. Both of them having reuse theme in different ways is really nice for the puzzle games. I really like it a lot
What I like about your videos is that, though I'm not classically trained and usually just plain noodle, I feel like in the end I can go and loosely recreate what I've learned.
The reason the song sounds timeless is because it kinda is. Other commenters already namechecked three different classic country-western songs that use the same chord progression ("Oh Suzanna", "She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain", and "Home on the Range"), but I've heard it in other places. Just off the top of my head, there's "My Big Fat Baby Loves to Eat" from the _Family Guy_ episode where they go to Texas, "Truck Driving Song" by Weird Al... and for you Disney folks out there, "I've Got a Dream" from _Tangled_ and "Try Everything" from _Zootopia_ featured it too. I even caught myself using it on multiple occasions and wondering why it seemed so familiar.
Holy damn I did not know the same person arranged for Kirby Air Ride and Smash Melee. And Nightmare in Dreamland, which has imo one of the best soundtracks on the GBA. What a master!
This game was one of my top games in 2020! And even though I completed it I simply could NOT get rid of that Horse Race theme from Ocarina of Time when I listened to the Part-Time UFO theme!! These tunes are very similar!
One of the few mobile games I feel was actually worth a bit of money. The only issue with a game like Part Time UFO is that it can't keep going forever (which is honestly a good thing, not every game needs to go on forever! Yes, it's an issue AND a good thing) and I've already thoroughly beaten the entire game and maxed stars on every level.
Sort of a unrelated, but there’s a pair of osts I think you’d enjoy nerding out about. Specifically the one from Otogi: Myth of Demons, and the alternate Tanz mix from Raystorm. Otogi is a mix of Gagaku Japanese tradition, low-fi cinematic fx weirdness, and saucy atonal sounding synth and violin melody fragments.
Raystorm has a late 20th century techno/video game sounding instrument kit, but manages to capture a huge array of feelings from comforting to god smacked, and has a few of the zestiests and most dissonant moments I’ve heard in a video game hidden in along with it.
Hey 8-bit, I have no idea if you'll ever see this but if I may, could I suggest you analyze Midna's Lament from twilight princess? It would mean the world to me
I love your content, thanks for all of the time and effort that you put into your videos! Would you consider looking at Fisherman's Horizon from FF8 at some point?
5:24 This reminds me of the soundtrack to "American Girl - Julie Finds a Way (DS, 2007)". PLEASE do a video over that OST. It is shockingly good for an american girl DS game.
Hey guys. There’s a song originally written in 1957 called “Plastic Jesus” and the main theme of Part Time UFO is a note-for-note copy of it. Nowhere on the internet has anyone seemed to acknowledge this. Look up Tia Blake’s cover of Plastic Jesus and you will see.
This reminds me of the Punch Out Wii soundtrack. Similar to this game, it only had 3 to 4 melodies, that were taken from the original NES, each of them having variations depending of your opponent or situation.
Maybe it's just because you did the farm arrangement first, but to me the main melody sounded like a pastiche of Stephen Foster even when you played it unaccompanied.
Hey! Have you you ever heard of Ultimate Chicken Horse? The soundtrack is basically one theme arranged in so many different styles of music. It might be a good video topic
Hey, I'd love if you did something about any of Harvest Moon DS's tracks, the seasonal themes especially are great and dont get repetitive despite being heard for a long time at once.
Could you please make a video discussing The Messengers music , most of the soundtrack is soo good and the variation between oast and future would be fun to discuss
How many requests for Outer Wilds have you gotten? Because it's begging for you to do a video on it; the game's relationship to its soundtrack is like no other game I've played
Fun and great vid! :)
It would be even better if you mentioned that lyrics of that 'vocaloid' sound are not just 'hataraku UFO', but they are varied by situation (in 11:09, it's actually 'tatakau UFO' means 'fighting UFO', in shop they say 'kaimono UFO' - shopping ufo, and in treasure island 'otakara UFO' - treasure hunting ufo, etc...)
I didn't even notice that, that's so cool!
Also, the "fashion show" theme that plays while trying on outfits says "kigaeru UFO" (clothes-changing UFO)
It's also appropriate that it has kind of a sad, remorseful sound to it since all of the museum levels involve the poor lady breaking something lol
I keep hearing ‘she’ll be coming round the mountain’ in all of them
yep
🎵 _山周するUFO~_ 🎵🛸🛸
I adore everything about this game. I want it to become massively popular and start getting referenced everywhere. I want the little guy as an assist trophy.
Now I have to go play Part Time UFO. Great video!
I'll play it in french when I'm ready
Just got the game myself after watching this video
Anyone else think the main version of the theme sounds a lot like the Horse Race theme from Ocarina of Time?
Yeah it has that classic I IV I V progression
My brain was trying to finish the song as that theme, and it wasn't until a good 20 minutes after finishing this video that it finally figured out what song that was.
i was thinking the same thing
THAT'S what I was thinking of when I heard the song, couldn't place it. The last 2 measures in particular remind me of that
Sounds like baby shark 😂
"My headcanon is that the rapid arpeggio represents the fast upward movement of the UFO and the vocaloid is the two UFOs singing together" THAT'S SO FUCKING **CUTE**
shogo sakai you legend
Just seeing and hearing this makes me want a full video on the amazing compositions of Kirby, HAL got some good stuff
Shogo Sakai has a pretty legendary resume honestly, a shame I don't see him brought up much as a big name
Same goes for the OST of Super Mario Land 2: 6 Gold Coins. A single motif and usage of a range of genres and harmonic choices can create so much from so little.
Love your videos! Just bought one of the notebooks😊🎶
Cool channel here. Hotel Dusk for DS would be cool to see a video about.
I love how people are finally seeing how great this game is. From the really simple gameplay and the really charming music, this game is seriously just an incredibly fun to play
Makes me feel nostalgic for GBA soundtracks and, to some extent, DS soundtracks. You know, the way it mixes 8 bit sounds with high quality samples.
Patrick: "Is Mega Man a musical genre?"
hatarku yuuuuufoooooo
Ugh as if I didn't have enough praise for this soundtrack as a listener; I think this is maybe the clearest example of the tonic, the 5th and the 3rd in terms of what they sound like I've ever heard from a critical perspective - what textbook Nintendo composition! I always enjoy seeing HAL LABS getting some love on this channel
Whoa, there's multiplayer on Switch? Might just have to double-dip then. The mobile game is great, but this seems like a perfect addition.

one of my favorite things you do is show us examples of what a song would sound like without a certain technique. we all really appreciate the extra effort :)
Synth arpeggios imo almost feel like a signature of shogo sakai, it's all over mother 3 as well
Pokémon Black 2/White 2 🤝 Part Time UFO
Reuse the same music idea but in awesome arrangements
The Switch version of Part Time UFO was one of my favorite games from last year, it's such a fun little game that's brimming with charm
Oh... give me a home. Where the Buffalo roam. And the deer and the antelope play. Where seldom is heard. A mysterious word. And the skies are not cloudy all day......🎵🎶
Home, home on the range. By: Neil Young
You should try the terraria music next! For some reason the 8 bit synth stuff reminded me of it
Same here. I agree
My request is for the music for Conker’s Bad Fur Day. If nothing else, I think it would be hilarious to see an academic musical analysis of a song being sung by a sentient literal pile of excrement.
For anyone wondering Shogo Sakai's most notable works are the soundtracks for Mother 3 and Kirby spinoff titles such as the Rainbow Curse.
you've got me listening non-stop to this game's music today now :D
Worth mentioning, but at the final battle theme, the “Hatarake UFO” (Part time UFO) is replaced with “Tatakae UFO” (Fighting UFO), which is a cool little change that is both cute and inspiring.

Another wonderful video! Thank you so much for this!
What is rodeo theme? I do not remember these
@@everthon2457 The horseracing theme.
@@bobbafett5175 ooooooooh i remember that
Definitely my favorite in a while.
Your videos have made me want to major in composition just so I can transcribe all my favorite video game themes :)
This reminds me a lot of the LocoRoco soundtrack and I'm loving it
This is why I like this channel! Such a niche game that has a nice concept and soundtrack
I'm getting lots of A Hat in Time vibes from all of these tracks as that game also uses it's main theme quite often adding it into most of its tracks
this is one of the cutest, simplests, and in a way more informing episodes, loved it!
I love how the final fight piece has the melody in thirds. The two UFOs are fighting in sync together!
I came across this soundtrack a few days ago and loved it. I did think this was perfect for a video from you. Here it is
This game looks super cute. Nice video!
What I like about your videos is that, though I'm not classically trained and usually just plain noodle, I feel like in the end I can go and loosely recreate what I've learned.

I feel like games music shows how important timbre can be and can change the feeling completely!
Part Time UFO is one of the best game on phones
Hooray for 8-bit Music Theory!!
Holy damn I did not know the same person arranged for Kirby Air Ride and Smash Melee. And Nightmare in Dreamland, which has imo one of the best soundtracks on the GBA. What a master!
Love the days when this channel uploads a new video!
This game was one of my top games in 2020! And even though I completed it I simply could NOT get rid of that Horse Race theme from Ocarina of Time when I listened to the Part-Time UFO theme!!
These tunes are very similar!
As you're talking about it sounding timeless, I'm like... 'that's _she'll be comin' 'round the mountain_ '
I couldn't actually tell that the vocal part was in Japanese. I thought they were just singing "Part-Time Yoo-Eff-Oh!"
Japanese freely borrows concepts and vocab from other languages by transliterating with katakana.
Same, although in my head, to match the amount of syllables in English, I heard "I'm a part-time U-F-Oh!"
hataraku yufo
It‘s funny how you analyse like every game I like the music of.
What a great example to prove that music is not only notations on a sheet, what a challenge!
Would love to see PVZ covered.
I think I might’ve learned more about music theory from you then my five years of playing in class
One of the few mobile games I feel was actually worth a bit of money. 🎶"She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes"🎶
That one D in the synth solo hit me like a ton of bricks, you know the one
Nitpicking but I'd like to correct.
The final boss theme's lyrics is "Tatakau UFO", or "fighting UFO" in English
@8-bit_Music_Theory, Check out "Dusk Dunes" in Kirby's Epic Yarn. Its a drummer's syncopation heaven.
Jobski is Sooooo adorable with the soundtrack!! I luv this game :)

What are your personal thoughts on the music from Ape Escape?
8:48 rip pancake stack 😭
Great video as usual. It would be great if you find something to cover for Bravely default 2
I bought this game for Switch just because this video popped up. Even before I watched it.
i highly suggest doing a video over dicey dungeons! i recently got back into it and the soundtrack is suuuuper good
Heck yeah, the more exposure for this game the better.
The main theme reminds me so much of the the old southern gospel songs I've heard throughout the years.
2:38 I think I saw someone Haydn behind those sunglasses
5:24 This reminds me of the soundtrack to "American Girl - Julie Finds a Way (DS, 2007)". PLEASE do a video over that OST. It is shockingly good for an american girl DS game.

Really tight motion graphics sir.
This reminds me of the Punch Out Wii soundtrack.
Similar to this game, it only had 3 to 4 melodies, that were taken from the original NES, each of them having variations depending of your opponent or situation.
Weird pull: The "Main theme" sounds exactly like the song linda ronstadt sings about Homer in the Mr. Plow Simpsons episode.
I love your videos man! Do you think you can analyze Waterblight Ganon from BOTW?
Okay, but how cute is that UFO in Japanese is "Yūfō" ^^
Maybe it's just because you did the farm arrangement first, but to me the main melody sounded like a pastiche of Stephen Foster even when you played it unaccompanied.
So when I simply change instrumentation, I'm lazy, but when he does it, it's a *challenge*
The melody, and especially the bluegrass version, sound like an old American Southern gospel hymn
Specifically, Lily of the Valley by Charles Fry
Could you please make a video discussing The Messengers music , most of the soundtrack is soo good and the variation between oast and future would be fun to discuss
How about a video walking us through the theme of Tarrey Town, "From the Ground Up", from Breath of the Wild?
Oh, was this not covered in the breath of the wild series? I can't recall
I think he did cover tarry town on his BOTW series
You gotta do Monster Hunter, specifically World and Rise. Some of the greatest orchestral pieces i've ever heard
Ooh, cute music!
I would love to know what your favorite dorian tracks are when it comes to JRPG OSTs. ;-)
You should really analyze the music of Leaf Blower Revolution!
always amaizing.
Here's a topic I'm too cheap to go to Patreon for: Grant Kirkhope's chaotic and messy compositions.
I've been listening to Donkey Kong 64.
How many requests for Outer Wilds have you gotten? Because it's begging for you to do a video on it; the game's relationship to its soundtrack is like no other game I've played
The final theme covered on the moon reminds me of megaman
Was a very cute game
Is it possible you could make a video talking about the terraria soundtrack because theres alot of potential to talk about inter-key melodies.
Sounds almost like Choco Mountain from Mario Kart 64.
I do got a recommendation: How does the music of Alien Isolation set it's tone so well?
