    When I had my first 8 years ago I was so overwhelmed and felt like I couldn’t even cook or clean. I was drowning. Now with my third who is 5 weeks old, I’m making meals from scratch, homeschooling my other 2, tackling the house chores. I’m not perfect and still have a lot of learning to do and growing, but man have I come a long way. I heard that it takes 10,000 hours to master a skill. And homemaking and motherhood is a skill! It does get better! And yes, the older kids are sooo helpful. To those in the middle of the little years, it gets easier! Hang in there! ♥️

      So true!! I had my first 11 years ago and was still so young. Homemaking felt near impossible. Now I'm 41 weeks with my 4th and so much of the cooking, cleaning, parenting feels like second nature now. It's absolutely a skill that takes a long time to get the groove of, but once it starts to flow, it feels sooo good!

      This is very encouraging as a newer mom with young kids! The overwhelm makes me question having more children most days.

      @paigebrown1790 I agree, the feeling of being overwhelmed, tired (like super tired), working full time and putting all remaingin hours for family and household, is definitely putting me off from having more children. It's sad... but I can't... I realise that I have limits and that was one of the biggest realisations of motherhood.
      Also it's not an option to drop the work and stay at home (and that's really tough work by itself, I definitely felt isolated and redundant staying at home during maternity)...

    Mom of two little toddlers and it is so neat to hear you talk about how helpful the kids can be in the future! I have simplified my home a lot and it helps so much but I am still amazed at how quickly my kids can make even a small amount of toys messy! But it’s encouraging to hear there is another side!

      And even just a little past her stage, when they're teenagers, they can do all kinds of things like cook dinner if needed, mow the lawn, knock out home projects, etc. I can do way more handmade homemade things now that they're a little older. It happens so fast!! Enjoy the stage you're in as much as you're able. It's over in a flash. Every stage has its joys!

    I really appreciate that you addressed that. I will say, for me, it's very easy for me to compare where I'm at with my home with my sister who has 5 kids and even to my mom who is almost an empty nester right now, and question how they learned to maintain a home. I am not at the stage right now where I have older kids help; I have a 2-year-old, and an almost constantly messy home that weighs me down and causes some negative mental spaces to come out. I'm just not at the stage right now where I can have a constantly clean house, and I feel like I needed to hear those words from you. Thank you.

    • @SadieLGardner
      @SadieLGardner Місяць тому

      I have three, three and under too! And one on the way. It's so strange how it ebbs and flows. Just a couple weeks ago it was rough- the baby wouldn't let me put her down for a moment without crying and the older two were fighting and needing me all the time. And then suddenly the baby was in super independent mode and so were the big kids and now it's all down time. Who knows what next week will look like! I don't know about you, but I've gotten much better at bearing with the tough times because I've seen how it always resolves in the end.

    Hi, Sarah! Really enjoy your videos!
    I greatly appreciate that NOT every. single. video. of yours is sponsored. Thank you for having some boundaries in that way. It makes me feel as if you're more vested in promoting products you actually use/enjoy rather than just as many product payouts as possible.

    •  Місяць тому +7

      Hey! This comment it’s a bit weird. She puts out good content and we should celebrate if she makes good money out of it too. I wouldn’t mind watching multiple sponsorships in a video since she promotes only stuff she believes in and since it benefits her.

    • @laneyoh5
      @laneyoh5 Місяць тому +1

      Certainly allowed your opinion, as well. Seems as if you're ultimately saying the same thing I am at its core. I've just seen too many content creators start having ads in every single video, and it makes me distrustful of if they're actually a worthwhile product. Just shilling something all the time seems disingenuous to me. But to each his own. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm not begrudging her a way to support her family. Just saying I appreciate her being choosy about which companies to promote.

    I hear you and I can relate in a lot of ways - I'm also a SAHM of 5. The difference it makes that your husband works from home is also that it allows you to leave the house by yourself: grocery shopping, running, having a coffee with a friend, taking photos, etc. I always have one (at least) little side-kick by my side! And I love it! But it's still not the same as doing things outside the house by myself ;)

      @@Amandahugginkizz I feel you! I've never went to an appointment with only one child, I might even add that I'm never alone in the car, haha! We live abroad so we have absolutely no help - it's okay, it was our choice. But no family nearby means no baby-sitter, no free meal on Sunday evening, no help with cleaning or driving the kids around and no time with just my husband outside the home. But it's all worth it and our relationship as a family is priceless

    It was so helpful to hear you talk about how far you have come in homemaking and not to compare! I became a wife almost a year ago and a full time homemaker 3 months ago. I have been feeling bad that I haven't met all of my goals but it is such a good reminder that learning is lifelong and I have plenty of time to learn more sourdough recipes (I have learned 2 recipes the past 3 months that I make often but there are so many more on my list) or sewing or gardening, etc. I am also pregnant for the first time so I have worried how I will handle things next year with a baby and in the future as we add more kids, so it was helpful to remember running a household gets easier with time and practice (and as the kids get older and help more).

    You and Kieran seem to make a good team. Don't listen to the unkind comments. You do SO much work, but there's also lots more to life and having a family than what you do! I work nonstop keeping the kids, doing all the food prep and cook and cleanup, housekeeping, and teaching violin lessons. But I'm so thankful for all the things my husband does for us, and I'm so grateful I don't have those jobs!! Do what honors God and works for your family, and don't worry about the rest of the opinions:)

    Wow I needed to hear this today, I’ve been playing the comparison game way too much lately. I’ve got 4 kids 5 and under and it’s been hard not to compare myself to other moms, especially ones with older kids. Thank you for the reminder that we’ve got a lot to look forward to as they get older, since my 4th is my last (God’s will) I’ve been mourning the “loss” of the baby stage. But hearing moms with older kids talk about how great it is helps shift my mindset to looking forward rather than mourning the past.
    Also side note, THANK YOU for saying that you love your solo days! My husband gets to work from home a lot too and I’m sooo grateful for that but it’s also nice to know that I’m not a bad wife or alone in really enjoying those solo days with the kids!

      I feel you. I have 3 children ages 6, 3 and 1 (all about to have birthdays) and my youngest (also my last, God-willing) is nearly out of the baby-toddler stage and will be a full blown toddler soon. I have been mourning as well, but I'm also excited for the future when life is more relaxing and honestly interesting. I hear that as children get older, the sophisticated conversations you are able to have with them is the absolute best. Also, mediating sibling disagreements has got to be so much more enjoyable when they're older and more reasonable lol.
      Definitely mourn, but just too intensely or for too long. It's literally like closing a book and opening up the sequel, except you know it will be better in ways than the first. The toddler and young child phase is definitely hard, but so many amazing and unexpected things are waiting for us to experience! Think of how much your 5 year old can do compared to only 2 years ago. I'm stoked to see how much my children will change in the years to come. I feel like I could type forever so I'd better stop now and head to bed haha. God bless you and your family. 🤍

So, not in a nefarious or mean way, USE THE KIDS. 😂 Most days I am giving out directions, demoing our lessons and facilitating discussions but I rarely lift a finger! Haha If you have kiddos get them started age 4/5 with helping cleaning. It will be a major load off!!

    Such a good reminder there at the end about comparison. I waited to start my family at 30. So I established a bunch of chores and routines in my 20s. Then the baby ruined them all! Establishing routines while raising babies would have likely felt easier and more successful. Having that success, it getting “ruined” and striving to get back to where you were is unrealistic in the baby phase. Though, after 10 months and finally getting him into a consistent nap schedule has opened up my life to start getting back on track. I’m sure once I’m done having kids and they’re out of the toddler stage I’ll bounce right back to where I was. But that’s likely 5 years away so it’ll be a bit

    I came to the realization a while ago that everyone's idea of "doing it all themselves" is vastly different.
    We only have two kids but I do all the groceries, cleaning, cooking, childcare etc. He has never brushed their teeth, bathed or dressed them, changed their diapers. He gets home from work, plugs into his tablet, i serve him dinner and he goes to bed. I've been a working mom, a work from home Mom, now a homeschooling mom and his helpfulness hasn't changed. He doesn't do dishes, or laundry. I make his coffee, and lunches, i schedule his appointments, i renew his prescriptions and keep track of the bills. I don't compare myself to anyone else because my version of "stay at home mom" is different from someone else

      What happens when you get sick? No worries if you're comfortable with it, but I'd be concerned he won't be able to look after himself and others if you're not available. Anything can happen in life, even the unwanted stuff.

    • @emilymay6418
      @emilymay6418 25 днів тому

      @lisah5836 In the past when I'm sick I still take care of everything. He'll ask me to cook for him and I'll take care of the kids, house and cooking. If I'm down hard and can't move he will put the TV on and order food. But the kids still end up coming to me for everything since he watches his tablet and can't hear when they need him so I end up being on half duty. I end up delegating, telling him what/how much the kids eat, if they need help in the bathroom, etc.
      I don't think any healthy individual would be okay with this kind of partnership, to be blunt

      @@emilymay6418 no I wouldn't be if it were me but I wanted to make it really clear that I'm not being judgemental. Everyone has their own life and circumstances. One positive is that your kids come to you and that must mean something :) I hope you can get the support that you need and know you're doing a good job.

    Love love your videos! This is so encouraging to new moms like me! Quick question, it doesn’t seem like you ever struggle with scrolling on your phone and getting bored by the mundane at home things… how do you stay so focused AND how have you gotten to a point where you can feel rested from reading the word? To be honest, watching UA-cam and listening to podcasts have become more relaxing to me than reading the Bible. I realize these things have become idols and it’s a struggle.

But I DONT want you to feel pressured to do so then get burned out by UA-cam(not sure if that was the case with the last channel🤷🏼‍♀️) Just wanted to say personally I’m happy learning from you in either form of video!

    Hi Sarah! Loved your video, and I have been a long time subscriber. I can’t help but feel curious and maybe even a little concerned that it seems like you work so hard and your husband doesn’t really seem to be doing much? I know it’s so personal how couples divide up the work for family life, but from one Christian woman to another, I just really don’t want to see you be taken advantage of. It seems like from the outside, you’re the bread winner, the bread maker, and overall do everything but the book keeping? I feel like you are such a good example of a selfless, grateful, woman who does her absolute best (and in my opinion is incredibly successful) while keeping a close relationship with Christ. And I am so glad women like me get to be inspired by seeing how God has worked through you. I just really really hope you are in a marriage where your partner is not doing the bare minimum and shows gratitude in sharing the load. I’m all for unconventional set ups- and I think what works for a couple is awesome if they’re both happy, but it doesn’t sound like (other than book keeping) Kearan is doing much for the family unit and only focusing on his personal self growth. Kids need strong fathers who are equally supporting the family, and I just hope that is the case because you really are a rockstar and you do so much.
