    I sprained my ankle really bad. Had a grade 3 sprain. I remember having to wear a cast to keep it from moving, but I would still play drums even in a cast. But then, I pushed myself too hard at a job too early and re-sprained it all over again. Watching this video is making a ankle hurt again, but now i understand why it was in so much pain.

    • @LifelsGreat
      @LifelsGreat 5 років тому +17

      Andy Gallant patellar tendinitis.. Your knee problems typically come from something that’s wrong above or below it. How is your foot strength? Balance? Ankle mobility? Do you have weak glutes? You also have to work on your landing mechanics. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly why you’re dealing with jumpers knee. Work on your foot & hip strength, balance and mechanics! 😀

      Andy Gallant I used to have that problem when I was in 7th and 8th grade. It was terrible for when he had to squat during lifting for me. But now I’m a junior and haven’t dealt with it since. The best thing that works for me was starching the knee (or knees) everyday. It takes away a lot of the pain. Also try to get one of those knee pads.

    • @stevenkoja5

      AO30 do you mean stretching?

    • @danielweissel2366
      @danielweissel2366 5 років тому +1

      jumper's knee is the layman's term for a patella tendinopathy - basically small micro-tears in the quadriceps tendon where it connects to your tibia, or upper shin. It's typically found in those with suddenly increased training demands, imbalances from one leg to the other, reduced biomechanics in your hips, knees or ankles and commonly found when there are repetitive movements involved - ie jumping when playing basketball, hence the name. Poor patella tracking as it moves over your knee during activity, meaning it might pull one way or the other rather than in a direct line, can contribute.
      Tendinopathies are generally overuse injuries, and can be serious if not properly treated. The long term risks include actually rupturing the tendon itself, leading to functional loss of the muscle (quads in this case). Tony Parker, Andre Roberson and Charles Barkely are 3 basketballers I can remember having this particularly nasty injury, and Kawhi i think was diagnosed with a patella tendinopathy last year if i'm not mistaken.
      Treatments should focus on a combination of rest from aggravating activities, basic RICE principles, and then moving towards static, isometric exercises (holding the downwards phase of squat for example) and gradually increasing towards eccentric exercise, which basically means using the muscle while it lengthens, to increase the load placed on the tendon and develop strength as it moves from a shortened, contracted position, to a longer one. Other treatments include pain medication, dry needling and any other phyiotherapy adjunct to exercise, including adressing any other contributing factors (poor footwear, weak hips etc). Exercises for the tendon itself differ on the stage of tendinopathy however, as they move from early, middle and late stages, with each stage increasing in severity and therefore risk of tendon dysrepair and rupture.

    I had a grade 3 a year ago and tried the no surgery method as advised by my GP - worst decision, nothing but constant instability and inflammation. went back 2 months ago and pushed to see a specialist and the specialist advised surgery as the ligament had fused back but when he felt my ankle he said theyve grown back like cooked spaghetti instead of a tight rubber band. Just had surgery 3.5 weeks ago and can definitely say how amazing it now feels, best decision. I now feel confident that when i recover in a few months i will be able to get my day to day life back. I will still always wear an ASO brace now on both ankles in sport as a preventative measure because i dont ever want to go through the ordeal again.
    If youre contemplating surgery but are worried about the pain or being out of action, dont worry and just do it! The pain is way less than the initial injury and will get you back to 100% instead of 60%

      for now i don't really care if i can't go back to playing , as long as i can fully go back to my previous condition.
      also, the thing they've put inside my ankle, will they remove it once fully healed?

Completely ruptured my ATFL and my CLF. Punched the ground a few times, got up, walked to our command, changed into my uniform, and continued to walk around in my boots for another hour until I was able to get to the medical center across the street. When I finally sat down the adrenaline finally subsided and the pain came in hard. No surgery. Immobilized, eventual physical therapy, and chronic pain now. @@ogtmini148 When I got my cast off and started physical therapy, they emphasized range of motion exercises, both to increase blood flow and nutrients to the injured area, but also to break up scar tissue, which forms whenever you tear soft tissue.
      When I first tried running again, I was bothered by both pain (supposedly caused by bone chips from my grade 3 sprain), and chronic stiffness in the injured area. After several rounds of steroid injections, the pain went away but not the stiffness. That is what kept bothering me the longest. What I found helped a lot was ankle exercises, which helped the healing process, but also to help avoid a re-injury, which a lot of people fall victim to (myself included), which sets the healing time back.
      Something else I highly recommend you receive is Deep Tissue Massage. Besides helping to bring oxygen, blood and nutrients to the injured area, it just feels so damn good! Anyway, good luck, hope you're back running again soon.

      @markb20 Рік тому

      @@sierrasymone7590 I had a similar issue for years with my ankle. Also my left ankle, and I had also severely sprained it a few years before playing baseball. While the pain lingered for about 6 months (I had bone chips related to the tear), it was the chronic stiffness right where the ligament tore that plagued me for years. Among the words of wisdom from doctors were: "You should stop running" and "You'd have been better off breaking your ankle".
      The stiffness finally went away, but I always tell people the one thing that really helps the healing (besides physical therapy) is deep tissue massage. Besides all the things it does for the injury and the chronic stiffness, it was like heaven! I'm surprised massage is not used more in PT for soft tissue injuries (once the injured tissue has mended).

    Doc, So what can an athlete who is active like a pro basketball player do to strengthen his ankles so this does not plague him the rest of his career? Also, are there stretching exercises he could do before workouts that would help. From the film I thought it wan an unforced injury.

    Would like to see a TIBAL PLATEAU (Schatzer scale) grade 6 , hard tissue, video. Kobe probably had a Schatzer 1 or 2 and he was still messed up. Schatzer scale obviously is only for the tib plateau. But curious how you explain a tib plateau 6 (and how bad it is). Great work appreciate your channel. Great work 👍🏼

    I had nine AirMax on and I sprained same exact way like the lonzo ball did. I was cutting in tried to pass the ball. My ankle just rolled out of nowhere. I couldn’t put my feet on the ground for few days. Had it cast for two weeks. Now I can walk but not too well. Wear proper basketball shoes people. And avoid lebron or any shoes that’s high off the ground.

    I have a question that I’ve wanted to know my entire life: what happened to my ankle? When I was in 8th grade I landed wrong on my foot after a dunk and it twisted and rolled. XRay found bone fragments, so I was splinted. MRI found that all but one ligament had been detached from the bone and that’s why my bone fragments was floating around. Is that a grade three when it detaches from the bone? Doctors said it was the worst ankle injury they’d ever seen, help me out!

    How to know whether a completely torn ligament (grade 3) have healed on its own or not after a couple weeks? Like would it be still painful if it doesn't heal?

    I had a grade 3 sprain when I landed on my teammates foot going for a rebound. It’s so painful you can’t even put on a shoe for at least a week or 2 let alone run or jump. At the point of injury it makes a loud pop. I knew right away I had a serious sprain or a break because I could not get up. It swells up instantly and swells throughout your whole foot for a matter of weeks. Probably one of the most painful injuries at the moment of injury

    Hey Brian, I’m kinda new to your channel and I’ve been watching your videos for about a couple weeks or so and haven’t looked back since. I was wondering if you could do an Andrew Luck video on his shoulder injury and why exactly it took so long for him to return and the timeline throughout his injury. I’m very curious to know what exactly happened to his shoulder in detail. Keep up the good work, much appreciated.

    i can not find your instagram, after 2 and half month i get my MRI done, one doctor said ATFL ligament torn (MRI scan shows a full thickness tear of the ligament, but there still have some fiber connected, but not sure how much. so he suggested surgery is the only way to let the ligament heal together. another doctor said no need surgery because it will be grow back on its own even the ligament complete torn also can grown back. i am so confused and worry, it is been almost 3 months already, can ligament can be grow back on its own, pls help me, thank you.
