This CAN work in walk and talk or run and gun documentary situations very well. Provided that you have a GOOD shock mount. The one I got with deity v-mic d4 is rock solid and doesn't register even a single db on shakes. Good video.
I would trust your version better than the Micro boom. One tweak... I'd add a tight twist (spiral) of the cable running down the boom pole to the camera before twist tying it just so it will be tight. Well done.

Well done. While this is not a solution I am in search of I have to say that it is functional and a substantial savings over the ready to go version. If I needed such a device I would definitely consider something like this.
