To Register a trailer with the DMV in Texas, you must weigh it

I had an unregistered trailer. I wanted to register it at the DMV in Texas. They needed the police to check out the VIN, and then I had to get it weighed. That meant taking the boat off the trailer.

Hey I have same issues not sure what else to do. I bought a boat out of state and now dmv giving headaches. They want to have certified trailer and how am I going to take a trailer to weight it while my boar is on there’s no way I can lift the boat off from trailer. Can you give any thought went to dmv twice got rejected even I have title and bill of sale for trailer.

I think the issue is if the trailer has never been registered and grandfathered in, they need the weight. Unless you can float your boat and take the trailer to a weigh station, I think you might be screwed

How much did they charge you in total. I was told I would need a vin attached to it, then an inspection, weight and idk what else. What exactly do they inspect at the sheriff's office?

Johnny Law charged me about $50 cash to look at the trailer. Weigh station was about $16. I bought a set of metal stamping tools from Harbor Freight to stamp on a VIN for maybe $15. Then there were all the DMV fees.

Where you assigned a vin or did you just stamp 1 ?

Did you buy the trailer without a vin and without registration info? I bought a utility trailer and rebuilt the rusted axles/ fenders. And am dealing with the registration stuff. It’s a pain.

I didn’t think it had a VIN but it had. I bought a metal stamp set to put one on myself before I found the rust covered sticker. Maybe someone could sell rust covered VIN stickers and make a killing. It’s a real pain unless the trailer has previously been registered

Ikr stupid state stuff for s simple trailer you should just be able to buy one and haul it

@@rhecyeeyeejake7184 yep -it's annoying and stupid. I hear lots of people just use one plate and move it between their trailers as they can only tow one at once. This is a workaround (illegal) because the law is so unreasonable.
