Great video! Really excited to see how this saw cuts! A quick tip for cleaning those side covers, try a sink or bucket full of hot water, dawn dish soap, and a scrub brush, works really well especially in all the nooks and crannies. You can wash most saw parts like that!
"What do you use for beard oil on your epic beard?" "Oh, I use Stihl Platinum Mix Oil". I get called Santa all the time so I know how natural it is to stroke the face hair when you're thinking. Amazing how much of engine work is how it sounds. Thanks for sharing.
I believe since watching Billy since 2016. Those old Husky 266 was one of the first saws Billy run for tree service. Those are bread and butter saws bought second hand worked ran and made some money from it but not a whole lot. :) And Billy if you are watching I would love to have that Tinman 266 saw! :)
I've had similar issues with the starter pully spreading and cracking. I'm just speculating. The rope was too small to begin with or stretched over time causing the rope to get skinny. Causing the rope to wedge down beside itself spreading the walls of the pully out until it cracks. Also with high compression or preignition the saw can kick back when you shut it off. I've seen Buckin pull the crank rope out when he shuts the saw off. I don't know why he does that but I thought, when I saw him do that, wow, that can help when it kicks back. I used to use a mic and measure the rope and replace it with similar size but now I measure the distance between the sides of the pully and install a rope that fits almost to tight. I couldn't find a new pully for a 61. I went to Farmertec and purchased a pully for 2.74. Its working fine. since I was ordering from them and having to pay 6.31 shipping I bought two Caber rings 7.10 and two bumper strips 78 cents. I know this video is 2 years old but I thought someone might be helped. I love Tinman. Any time I have a saw problem I go to his channel. By the way the 61 I spoke of was given to me because it was locked up years ago and would cost more to fix than a new saw. I untwisted the crank rope, put fuel in it and it cranked on the third pull.
Hey Tim man thats nice you do good work. Love the carb. 390 nice port work thats cool. Fast fast Buckin going to have a new hot rod. Thank Kenny from Texas. Thanks
Hi Tinman!!😀😀 When you put the sprocket on and it has holes on one side you need to make sure they are facing the outside. If you don't the sawdust will carry along and plug the bar oil slot with sawdust. The holes are made for clearing the sawdust from the sprocket toward the outside. Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al
Loving it ❤️. We'd be happy if our 266XP would just run properly in its current 'stock' format, but having seen this video, maybe we'll take a look at those seals and the impulse port.
Buckin you have a great saw comming your way. I've been roaming around the net. Tinman and Ironhorse are right at the top of builders. Leaning towards Tinman lol my wife is from Windsor. Take care Tinman once again your content is spot on!
Hey tinman, It was very cool to see, how excited you were, when you fired up that saw and it ran! That "liftup" when accellerating was very impressive! Wow! Call me a Stihl guy and the only husqvarna i have are have 2 of the small 242XP. I got them in a bad shape and rebuilded them quite from scratch. I really like them for light work and cutting off branches. But now I'm thinking about getting one of those 266. Man, that's a great saw! Only problem is to find spareparts here in germany. You're inpiring! Carry on! Thank you!
Very nice! Be sure the seal in the oilpump is not touching the inner ring of the crank bearing. It will wear out the seal very fast, I've seen a few that way, originally installed.
Best chain saw channel on UA-cam. I've been looking forward to seeing this saw run. Thanks for sharing all the little tips on the 2 series saws. It's a huge help, as I run these saws almost exclusively. They just work. 💪
Cert clips hold the wrist pin in N they always break on my favorite motor I work on the yd100 I have come up with my own mod for them and done it three times since I came up with it and it stopped the cert clip from breakin of and ruining my cylinder walls n piston. (Rip 5 different motors before fix) but my simple fix works great but now I’m tryin to find the sweet stop of reliable and monster the last one about four days ago was a bit to much monster and broke a ring and screwed the whole top end. New top end on the way n I’ll b a lil more mild with my durations 😀
Great video. Very Informational and appreciate all the time you put into explaining everything threw out the build. What kind of assembly lube do you use on the bottom end/wrist pin etc?
Tinman!!! Thanks for these video's as they educate us unfortunate that just don't have a Husqvarna 266xp. Why do I have chainsaw envy? Any itty bitty 45cc builds? It's for when I get old, hopefully it will never gets any use, kinda like a backup plan, go lighter! Be safe eh Tinman?
When you said you have an idea how to stiffen up the av mounts I instantly got one idea too haha. I thought about putting one or more layers of heat shrink tubing over the mount. I just don't know how would they hold up.
Back in the day my brother put finishing nails in rubber suspension bushings to stiffen them and reduce wheel hop on a little vega. I've used deck screws to tighten worn swaybar bushings on an old caravan...don't laugh, it took the clunk out of the front end ! Thanks for your quiet , country ways Tinman!...Oz never gave nothin to the tinman that he didn't already have...
Now I gotta go shorten the rope in my 266! I'm all but sure I wound too much in 'er! I tried the holzforma recoil. I would up cleaning up and cobbling together the OEM. It is th me way to go.
GREAT JOB ASSEMBLING THAT SAW I DO THE SAME IT DRIVES MY FRIEND NUTS ,,I TRIPLE CHECK EVERYTHING BE SAFE TINMAN BUCKIN WILL BE SMILING WHEN HE RUNS THIS ONE
Great video! I have the same saw and the oil flow screw/know broke off while i was trying to adjust it. Do they sell just that piece? Or do you have to change entire pump?
Hey also most saws use pumper carbs right? They don’t have jets correct? Cause I’m thinkin if it works off a pump n recirculates then I should be able to run them and get all the fuel or way less without all the jetting and just a high low screw right?
Tinman, I got a "serious" problem with my 266XP pulley. When I run the saw (which was ported after your lovely instructions!), the starter rope comes out of the pulley and the flywheel is eating the rope inside until it breaks. I tried the original 266 starter and a 61 starter. None of them work. Do you have an idea?! Stay safe, buddy!
Only the finest bands for the sturdiest saws haha jm I know that's not a turn saw but I fcb ur not one of us be like that snap on t handles worth more than the saws hahaha, but noooo, not at all, so much pleasure in the older saws
I'm surprised to hear you say that the 61 pullstarter won't work on a 266xp! Because I just had the pullstarter take a shit on my 266XP, I replaced it with the pullstarter off my 61 and it works fine?
Rookie question here. Why do I some guys pulling the chord out a bit before shutting off the saws? Also, I just picked up a used Stihl 028wb and it runs but it's leaking fuel from somewhere. I see fuel running down handle area to where you place your foot to start. Any Ideas?
If you still don’t know it’s to stop the motor from pulling the cord in if the motor happened to turn slightly backwards when shut off. (Saves the rewind cord) especially bigger high compression saws
@@LF12468 I may add it’s Mostly for Old McCulloch saws, or any ChainSaw with “starter Pawls” mounted on the flywheel I believe the 266 has them on the flywheel.
I have a question about the piston,,,,when i was a mechanic before we assembled the engine we always emerged the pistons in oil….why dont you do that….i was told by an ole timer that the ole absorbs into the metal
I oil the piston and cylinder with my finger. Too much oil on these engines and it will drip down and get all over the sealant on the cylinder base and cause a leak.
yahoooooooooooooooo!!
Buckin, I can't wait to see you run this saw! 🤘🌳🪓

That saw is going to absolutely rip. I can just tell by the sound , that thing is a monster
Thanks Tinman! Just got a 266 that needs a top end - gonna try and build er!
I can just SEE the look on Buckin's face when he holds this one and grins at the camera !!!
100 % agree with you there 😆.
The Famous 266! Cannot wait to see the startup! I am sure Buckin will be over the moon. Your builds are stellar! ❤️
More great info buddy!that jewel is gonna rip! 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏
Sounds really smooth when you rev it. Nice.
It does sound snappy 👍
So kool to see from the ground up build..Thanks for that and wow...Sounds AMAZING !!!!!
The instructions on the crankshaft seals were excellent.
WOW WOW can't wait to see it in wood !
Been waiting to see this saw put together hahah something special about a fresh saw coming to life after a complete rebuild

Hi Tinman! Another great video, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I’m going to try porting my 254xp. Cheers

Do you buy your crank seals and bearings from the dealer too ??
Tinman I noticed you pull the starter rope back to the shut off switch is this to prevent a kick back on the recoil assembly? Rick ohio
Lots of parts for 266 out there. But top covers are becoming rare.
Have you ever come across the proper paint for the huskies?
can you tell me what 266 2 piece ignition kit you recommend? i think you mentioned it in a different video but i can't find it. Thanks

There's early and late pullstarters. The center portion is lomg or short so some fit some won't.

Note to self don’t start saw without tightening flywheel nut.
Surprised that you didn’t to port the case the match the transfers
