I'm going to school this year for music production, and have choir class. I was a choir boy in my Catholic schools choir, and sang mezzo-soprano, but for my college classes I'm doing bass. I don't find it as interesting as mezzo-soprano, but my teacher knows what she's doing. Are there many male vocalists that can range change like that?
***** Oh, I don't mean I'm a countertenor, I mean I have the full range from bass to female soprano, which I think is an octave higher than countertenor. I can hit highs and lows without much trouble, and my vocal teacher is telling me if I quit smoking and put effort into it, I could become a master in vocals, but that isn't what I'm interested in. A good indication of my range is the Gregorian chant Dies Irae, I can hit both sections notes no problem.
***** My high range ends around C6, and mezzo-soprano is A3 to A5. I don't think I've got any condition like what you've mentioned, but it's like Paganini's Marfan syndrome, which isn't even diagnosed these days. I could have one and not be aware. I think the only reason I'm a bass is for the physical structure of the choir itself, the highest male vocal range is high tenor, only the girls are range.
