If I remember correctly, the BW stands for "Big Window" which refers to the heel air unit.

1991 baby! Here in the uk, people of my age would almost certainly pick these as the best air max ever.
These was hugely popular in Europe. Mega huge infact!
The big window air unit is still not as big as the original, but that's ok.
The tongue is back to how it was originally. So is the padded collar.
For a remastered shoe It's pretty much bang on the money.
1991 was the best year for kicks imo. Reebok pump omni zone 2, reebok pump blacktop, air jordan 6, air force 180 pump, air max 180, air max classic bw, air huarache.

I got my first pair of bw’s in 92 and during the 90’s owned about 15 pairs in different colours including 2 leather pairs.

@@TheRetroManRandySavage it’s a Nike thing it’s in a Japanese magazine from 97’ called boon they got all the OG color ways in there & they have them listed as the air max iv also
@@TheRetroManRandySavage Nope, they’re both technically the 4th Air Max and, as stated below, were called that in certain markets. I had a pair of the OGs and they were bought in Scotland. The ‘Classic’ name didn’t come about until about a decade after their first release when Nike renamed them.

Chris, somebody needs to give you a cape and a costume. You are the only reviewer out there talking about comfort. It's you that made me get 15 pairs of the recrafted AM 90 and it's again you making me save my money on these. Even though I've been looking forward to this pair with saliva dripping down my chin. Many, many thanks from somebody who doesn't have the possibility of trying sneakers on first. Peace.
I can hardly believe that he says they’re uncomfortable I’ve owned 15 pairs of bw’s in the 90’s but haven’t worn a pair since 99. I remember them as being plenty comfortable otherwise I would not of kept buying them.
These are plush, better then the 3’s
These are for me the best fitting sneaker period, comfortable all the way around.
Those BW were an absolute European Grail. Those were the principal Air Max worn in Europe for MANY MANY YEARS. Even during the 95 and 97 era, this shoe was so popular in countries like France that they were the synonym of "Air Max". This shoe wasn't called the BW nor the 91s not the Air Max 4. Those were just the AIR MAX.
I had this pair in the late 90's because everyone still rocked them more than any other sneaker. If you didn't had one of those in the rotation you were a nobody.
I am glad Nike made justice to the 91s / Big Windows with this retro. And i am even more glads that hipster kids and new wave sneaker heads are absolutely clueless about those. It allowed the cop to be somewhat possible even though i caught the L on the sneaker app EU and only managed to cop on an online store.
The 2016 version was reselling for several hundreds over retail last year. Resellers were asleep. Good for us.

Got a pair of sport blue 6's sitting in its box untouched after kicking a FN trolley wheel on day one.
My favourite shoe, I remember being 8 and knowing I could never rock that shoe. We were so poor that I use to draw the shoe from the catalogue pics and draw me wearing them 🙂 now I have 3 pairs ( 1 beater and 2 nice 2016 models) and ordered the Lyon and Beijing today
I will most likely keep the new ones for special or sunny days to keep em nice

Yeah these were dope. Had a black and white pair around 92, couldn't afford the Persians and by the time I had saved up they were all gone lol great shoes to rave in. I have this release and actually find them heaps comfier than the 90s.
Agreed they’re as comfy as the originals if i correctly remember. Frost orange and marinas are killer fly
I had the 2016 Marinas and they had the comfort level of a brick. I had several pairs of BW's in the early 90's and they were a lot more comfortable than the crap they pump out now. There is no way you'd be busting hakken all night in these, you'd need to see a podiatrist after an hour of dancing in these bricks.

I was waiting for this review. 1 of the 1st pair of sneakers that got me into sneakers. I love them. I still have 2 pairs of 2016 25th Anniversary BW. Persian Violet I feel are best colorway. I like 2016 all purple fuller tongue better than 2021. The BW Hemp colorway are really dope
Had these in 91’, 1st day of school, you couldn’t tell me nothing and they were so comfortable… thanks for the honest review because I had to send mines back… in my opinion they felt like bricks, I was looking down at my feet so confused lol

They were lagendery in 90s for gabbers to dance Hardcore. If you dance for 7- 8 hours you will understand but they are the most comfortable for everyday also. I wear them from 1997 till today. My only passion!!!
Omg these are wicked. I was born in 81 and I remember in the early 90s my dad got me a Nike(Air) sales brochure that listed all the different shoes that were out and incoming. The Air Max ALWAYS did it for me lol. I could never afford them when they released but now that I have money seeing the OGs roll out really makes me happy.
I’m always disappointed with how the Air Maxes feel…I feel like I always wanted them to feel like I was walking on air, literally. The newer Zoomx in my invincibles feel much more comfortable and how I wish the Air Max felt.

BW means "Big Window" it was a term that Tinker used back in 91 in the development of these.....they also do get more comfortable over time. Had numerous pairs over years and once they are broken in they are cosy! 👍
Been waiting for these to come out, they keep changing the release date here (in the UK), so nice to see this review. As others have said ‘BW’ supposedly stands for ‘Big Window’. Disappointed to hear you say these aren’t comfortable, as now my resolve to get them is wavering ha ha! I like the way they look and as a kid who admired wicked sneakers from afar in the early 90s (never could afford them) I was set on finally getting a pair, but it’s all about form and function for me and if they aren’t comfortable… Incidentally, love the sniff/smell test you do on all your vids, I guess many of us do that too(?) and I recently came across the best smelling Nikes ever: the AM90 Laser Magogany. Unquestionably the one part leather upper smells incredible and although a departure for me - as I wouldn’t say they are a daily wear style - they are deffo a trainer (sneaker) for when a sneakerhead gotta look dapper.
Sneakers from the 90s will never be as comfortable as modern tech. They can't compare to boost, react and other new type of foams. If you focus too much on "comfort" you will never get retro kicks ever again. Air Jordan 1s are complete bricks with ZERO outsole give and much less comfortable than any AMX. And yet no one complains. You need to judge the shoe for what it is regarding to the time they came out. I have other pairs of BWs and although they are not comparable to newer models, they are good enough for me to work with them on feet all day.

I remember these back in high school in 91. Damn year, everyone had them. I was about to cop on the re release, but my room is getting to full of sneakers, plus I had others on the way
Dope colorway and can't go wrong with an Airmax for the most part
One thing I wish they would do with more pairs of Nikes or shoes in general is add some little things like tag description or a keychain or a booklet or something!! like it just blows my mind we have had this many years of shoe design and and it’s not a regular thing to put either the tech or materials or anything like that on the box or something. Not like a fake story or anything that’s just made up. Just something about the shoe itself. It’s such a small thing and such a uncostly thing for them and it makes such a huge difference. I know it sounds stupid but it would honestly make me want to buy certain shoes more I just love when they put a good display on it and they should be doing it with either signature shoes or at least air Jordans or something like it’s crazy they don’t. I’m so shocked and angry and a lot of mixed emotions lol but like how cool would it be if there was a booklet or a keychain or even something on the box even put like a keychain or something!! Things like that makes such a huge difference with shoes I find. The little things/detail It’s a personal opinion but I just wish they would do it so mich. Just on a more regular basis like with either signatures or just with more shoes I guess in general even. Like a booklet explaining how they’re doing things lace locks stuff like that they should be doing a lot more. Anyways that’s my rant for the day lol Chris I have seen you talk about that once in a while and I totally agree. Hopefully someday Nike starts doing that sort of thing with more of those shoes and keeping premium materials in the mix 😛 anyways love the videos!!

Ah the BW OG. I had them in 91 in cream / white / black nubuck. Still the coolest trabs I've ever owned. I wore them til they fell apart. Just picked up a new pair in white & purple and hoping they fit like the originals did.

The "BW" stands for "Big Window" because at the time it had the biggest air window in the Air Max range (I think just prior to the Air Max '91)
Yeah, this is one I got early on stockx because I had to make sure they didn't sell out. I have always loved these.
Glad I watched this video before purchasing a pair of these👍🏻. They look amazing but such a shame they aren't comfortable...I've just purchased a pair of Nike air max sc and they are very comfortable and reasonably priced

'91 is definitely the year they came out. I remember as if it was yesterday. '90/'91 were the very best sneaker years. We got the Air Max 90s, BWs, Air Structure Triad, Air 180, Air Jordan 5, etc.
Nike only made the recraft on the 90 in those OG colors for that series. I haven’t bought an air Max 90 in years until they recrafted them. You are right that series is so comfortable but they only recrafted those few OG colorways. Every other 90 release since then has been horrible and back to the usual unrafted pairs lol. It’s the same with the OG jordan 5 fire red. They did that shoe so good but only on that shoe no other 5’s. As far as the BW(big window) these are WAY better than the 2016 release. They Actually have the OG thick padding which is the most important part! They are still comfortable but we will get more comfortable overtime! It’s my all-time favorite shoe and I own every release. I might do a video to compare and educate! Great video
Bought them out of pure nostalgia since it was my first pair of air max back in '91. To be honest although they look pretty good it's one of the less comfortable shoes I've worn. Feels almost the same as wearing a pair of boots, had to remove the original insole and put in a new one which helped and they feel much better now. But still not even close to, as comfortable, as other pairs of air max I have. I don't remember the originals being so "stiff" comfort wise. Was a bit disappointed.
I reckon the BW is comfy. I had the originals but bought my pair in 1992 from memory. The 2021 retro is very nice. I'm hoping Nike release some Stabs eventually again. These are my era when I grew to love Nike sneakers
Stabs got banned in Uk coz of name causing it at least that was back then far more blade crime nowadays so they’ll have to rename them. AirSlabz

This was the Air Max release in 1991 known as the Air Max 4 at the time. The BW name came later. I had an original pair as a kid! Whats confusing is there was another big Air Max release that same year, the Air Max 180.
Where you from? Here in England it was advertised as the classic big window on posters.

Beautiful looking shoe but I’m glad you mentioned that they weren’t really comfortable. In addition to the look of the shoe, comfort ranks right up there. I can’t kill my feet anymore in just “nice looking shoes”. They HAVE to be comfortable as well. Happy first day of Fall to you both!

Picking these up again, still have a couple of colourways and the last retro of these. hope the mesh doesn't crease as horribly as it does on those.
I had wanted these since I was a kid and when I saw these were being released I was intent on getting them but your review about the comfort being terrible put me right off them. sooooo dissapointed. I completely agree with you, that the current 90s are super comfortable. They're my favourite shoe although 95s are close behind and I'm a late comer to the huarache party

Not surprised they're not that comfortable. I tried on the new air max 2021 last week and the heel cushioning was pathetic to say it was basically just a big exposed air unit.
Gotta admit though, the fore foot was mad comfortable with that foam.
Air units haven't really felt the same to me since 2006 when they changed the gas. It feels more dense to me. The only retro shoes I find comfortable these day's are the J7's.
Still have mine from 2015. Might grab these if they go on sale

In the Netherlands, the air max series and in particular the air max BW, 90 and 95 were huge due to the hardcore house scene called Gabber.

Hello, what size are you because I laced up my size 10 nicely but a 10.5 completely threw me off because of the extra holes and also the style taking about is the loose lace style. Can you help or drop a tutorial?
