Interesting always to hear Dom Nichols speak and his perspective.

Always appreciated - thanks, Telegraph!
The world would be off with out Putin. Russian citizens need to keep up the pressure to end this illegal war against Ukraine.
Great daily update!
Thanks for the report on the Polish military
So Poland is going to bankrupt itself building up forces that will be immediately destroyed if they choose to use them on Americans behalf. What true patriots. I guess the US will soon run out of Ukrainians, so Poland can fill in the gaps.
Thanks for talking about the Sprotiv newspaper, it's been active since the first days of the occupation. Ukrainian resistance movement is very much active and I am very proud of my compatriots not losing hope in this situation.

Considering history of Poland, the rearmament drive is completely understandable. Russia tried to eliminate Poland from map already twice.
Actually Russia tried to eliminate Poland 3 times and we had a couple times over that many wars with them (1795, 1920, 1939). Russians only know the argument of power, they must be defeated in the war in Ukraine. We Poles don't forget and we have history of defeating Russia as well. We must be strong enough to be able to defeat Russia on our own right now and I fully support my government's effort to make it so.
@@filipkogut8533 I didn't count 1920 because they didnt get to partitioning part then... But point well taken, they would probably do it if not defeated in the field.

Ryan McBeth argues that the reason Russia chose Bahkmut to concentrate its attacks is simply because it's one of the easiest parts of the front for them to supply, logistically speaking. I have no idea if that is true, but it's the first explanation I hear that makes *some* sense, specially considering how bad Russians are at logistics.
I’m sure there are many reasons. But ease of supply is a damn good one.
Ryan is a logically thinking guy, great channel.

I think I've heard that not all Russia's spetsnaz are the same. I've understood even some of the conscript units are spetsnaz, meaning they could have significant numbers of (mobilised/voluntarily contracted) non-professional spetsnaz there. So, based on this information, it's unclear exactly what spetsnaz were spent. Were they the real deal or the -ish?
Ukraine will retreat out of Bahkmut the day before the counteroffensive.
"counteroffensive" will be a flash in the pan
We’re now down to semantics about a single route. Whether or not it is actually occupied by Russian troops, it’s clearly interdicted by fire to a greater or lesser degree. The road’s approach to the town is even within range of 12cm mortars. The ability to resupply by such a conduit is dependent upon two things: what degree of loss of vehicles is acceptable to the Ukrainians, and how much howitzer, mortar, or Grad ammunition can be allocated to interdiction by the Russians.
The defense of Bakhmut looks all but untenable, barring a major counter by Ukrainian forces from outside the city. The unfathomable level of importance placed on this small town’s fate implies that someone believes that symbology is crucially important in sustaining material Western support for Ukraine.
That's a lot of conjecture. Bakhmut is holding the orcs up. It's still inflicting many times the casualties as the Ukrainian's are suffering. The orcs can't move troops to any other fronts so they are deadlocked into playing it Ukraine's way. When the offensive kicks off they have no options. They placed their eggs in one basket. First of all, I respect and appreciate the Poles deeply and there is no more experienced in dealing with and fending off Rossian aggression. I also trust them to apply themselves with commendable proficiency and vigour should such become opportune in the geopolitical dynamics.
That said and with the current explosive expansion of the Polish forces in size and heft, coupled with the, shall we say, less than subtle (some may say; of dubious democratic portent and intent) political climate in the upper regions of the parties in Polish government, that constellation brings up the wise and prudent, but slightly uncomfortable classical contemplation: "Quis custodiet Ipsos custodes?".
Who watches? In a democracy, it's the voting public. Elections are how they record their approval or disapproval..... and everything we hear is that the vast majority of Poles support the current policy.
Si vis pacem......
@@peterwebb8732 Agreed, and of course the national consensus must be reflected in the Polish democratic outcomes and proper management of the Polish independence of the Judiciary, the latter of which might give reason for some measure of concern. If that independent judiciary is compromised or even invalidated, then the primary guardian of the guardians cannot perform its proper function in a credible fashion. That way all kind of potentially destructive mischief can find itself being perpetrated in order to further certain undemocratically inclined policies in service of certain and currently established political interests.
@@Centurion101B3C ... I think we both know that there is no such thing as a perfect system. The point is not to seek the unicorn, but to keep a reasonable eye on trends.
There is no reason to think that the Poles are going to default to totalitarianism just because they see a threat across their border and are respinding appropriately.
@25:40, the fella talking about computer technical work and clearances is talking bollocks. When a person has physical access to any type of data storage, processing, transmitting, and encryption device and their facilities, which a technician has, s/he has access to everything. Possession = control. This is basic computer security knowledge. To access top-secret level data processing devices and facilities, such a person must have the appropriate clearance.
Bringing recording devices, for example a mobile phone, into an access-controlled facility containing secret and top secret data, for example a SCIF, is strictly forbidden and is a crime. Mobiles are required to stored outside the applicable rooms. That he was allegedly able to do so indicates a failure by the command to monitor its policies and enforce them, such as the use of spot checks, reviewing computer security logs (which rarely happens until after the fact), verifying compartmentalisation, honeypots, etc.

Everyone focuses on Russia but no one pays attention to what Poland is doing in the Ukraine and their plans for that country.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during a visit to Warsaw in April 5th, 2023, said that there would soon be no borders between the two states - neither economic, nor political, nor historical. Zelensky’s office is discussing the possibility of creating a confederation of Ukraine and Poland, a kind of “new Commonwealth”. This the way he found to indirectly join NATO. Let's remember that Ukraine never was an independent country in its history.
It is curious that Poland has repeatedly declared its ambitions towards Ukraine. In January, former Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that Warsaw was considering the option of annexing the western part of Ukraine at the very beginning of Russia's invasion. Official Warsaw called these words "Russian propaganda", but Sikorsky simply said what the Polish authorities had been planning for a long time.
At the same time, in mid-March, Polish diplomacy fell into yet another scandal. The Ambassador of Warsaw in Paris admitted that the Polish army would have to face the Russian Armed Forces if the Ukrainian Armed Forces were defeated. Later, the diplomat's statement was disavowed, but they did it clumsily. In reality, Warsaw has once again outlined its plans for the Ukrainian crisis - and on this issue it disagrees with other NATO partners who would not want Poland to expand.
If Ukraine and Poland nevertheless unite, this could become a mini-version of the Commonwealth, which existed in the period 1569-1795. The unification of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was located on the territory of modern Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania.
Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda suggested Zelensky "sign the surrender of Russia" in Pereyaslav city(Ukraine). The events of 1569 and 1654 (Pereyaslav Rada) still leave a clear imprint in the memory of the Poles.
As a result of the agreement between the Ukrainian Cossack leader Bohdan Khmelnitsky and Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich I, the Hetmanate and the Zaporizhian Army became part of Russia, which was perceived by the Poles as an act of separatism and led to another Russo-Polish war that lasted 13 years and ended in victory for Russia. As a result of the conflict, Moscow managed to recapture the city of Kyiv and all left-bank Ukrainian lands, as well as lands lost during the Time of Troubles.
On January 8 or 18, 1654, in the city of Pereiaslavl (present-day Pereiaslav-Khmelnitsky), Hetman Bohdan Khmelnitsky convened a Rada (meeting) of representatives of the Ukrainian people, who decided to reunite Ukraine with Russia.
Khmelnitsky, who delivered a speech, recalled the sacrifices suffered by the Ukrainian and Belarusian peoples in the liberation struggle of 1648-1654 against the Polish occupiers and stressed that the only way to consolidate the gains of the Ukrainian people is the recognition of Russia's power. For Russia, the agreement meant the recovery of part of the lands of Western Rus.
Poles regard this event as one of the major geopolitical defeats in their history, comparable only to the three partitions of Poland under Catherine II, Russian Empress.
At the same time, de facto Poland is already absorbing the part of Ukraine accessible to it. Whether this will happen de jure depends on US plans.
The defeat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the battlefield is also beneficial for Warsaw, albeit to a lesser extent. In this case, Western Ukraine itself will want to join Poland in anticipation of a supposedly European standard of living.
Therefore, no matter how the situation in Ukraine develops, Poland receives and will receive its benefits in any case. The only question is their size and scope.
Duda, the Polish President, had already spoken in the spirit of Zelensky and spoke a year ago about the absence of borders between the two countries.
The idea of creating a single Polish-Ukrainian state is not popular in Polish society. It is afraid of inheriting the problems that emerged during the creation of the Commonwealth. In the event of a confederation with Ukraine, Poland will receive additional difficult challenges.
In the Warsaw Pact of 1920 between Jozef Pilsudski and Symon Petliura. The Poles promised Petliura help against Soviet Russia. All this turned into the beginning of the Polish-Soviet war, the offensive of the Polish troops up to Kyiv and ended with the signing of the Riga Treaty in 1921 and the division of Ukraine.
Iosif Stalin invaded Poland in 1939 and took back that Ukrainian land. Ukraine was reunited again.
From a military point of view, any rapprochement between Ukraine and Poland threatens to bring NATO even closer to Russia's border.
In addition, if Poland becomes a federation, then it will cease to be mono-ethnic, the Ukrainian language should be given the status of a second state language. That's when we will get a situation where the Polish-Ukrainian project will again appear, to which Russia will have to respond with a Russian-Ukrainian project.
If Ukraine remains within the borders of the western territories, it may well be included in the Polish state. However, it is important to make a remark: this will happen only if the United States considers such an outcome to be the most beneficial. In principle, Washington will be satisfied with any integration of ownerless land into the Western bloc.
Warsaw by itself will not pull the restoration of Ukraine and its entry into Poland. The Polish authorities will have to resort to Western capital, which will certainly be coordinated with the United States.
Warsaw, first of all, wants to make money on the restoration of the country and claim to receive a financial package from the West in the amount of 10% of the total costs, which are estimated at several hundred billion dollars.
Poland would like more control over local self-government in the expectation that Volodymyr
Zelensky will continue to control part of the territories of Ukraine.
If Poland has the opportunity to control the Ukrainian government not only at the national level, but also through local self-government, Warsaw will get most of the contracts.
Endgame. NATO is defunct. American Empire in collapse
