Dave the Diver - 60 second game review

- Dave the diver is a fishing RPG and restaurant management game. It’s core artstyle is 8-bit 2D, but it’s set in a 3D landscape.
During the day you will dive into the deep blue hole, a local diving spot that is full of aquatic life.
Equipped with a diving knife, harpoon gun and other fish catching weapons, you will dive down into the depths of the ocean on the hunt for resources, items and fish.
Advancing deeper you will need to upgrade your diving gear, weapons and carrying capacity. All of this is so that you are able to fight bigger fish with bigger and more bountiful hauls.
You will encounter different characters each with their own motives, side stories and rewards.
The cut scenes are these carefully crafted comedic anime style sequences, which are so much fun to watch and add real character to the game.
This early access game is built by a korean games developer called MINTROCKET under the Nexon group.

I'm 30+ hrs in. This game is totally addicting. I love the small extra layers that each chapter adds with new game play. It'll be my GotY.
At how many hours did you finish the story? And is there more to do after?
Yeah I’m like 3 hours in & I couldn’t put it down. I’m so bored of gaming these days & so far I’m putting it up with the greats. God of War PS4 & GOW Ragnorok. Dark Souls 3. Bloodborne. Breathe of the Wild. Stardew Valley. Blasphemous. More forsure, but damn. I’m so addicted like those games before it. Just pure fun. With some depth.
@finleyjohnston9931 i finished at exactly 50 but I did a bunch of side missions. My todo list was empty by the end. I still had things I wanted to do, but everh mission was done.
You do get a little more to do after, but not much. Mostly todo with the sushi bar(s)

This is absolutely NOT an 8bit game. No idea why so many people think a 2D game is automatically 8bit...
for clarity this is a pixel art game, but is too detailed for it to qualify as 8-bit however

A great game. I love these little labors of love more than most AAA published games.

It’s very cool, spent like 40 hours in it. Unfortunately, the gameplay started getting repetitive and therefore unenjoyable after around hour 30
8-bit? It is at the very least 16-bit style pixel work but more like 32-bit.
