Yo Justin! I was the dude wearing the Randomland hat in the store in Bishop. Thanks for spotting me! That made my trip awesome! I was thinking to myself after and that really was random! Super fun!
Wow how happy you have made us. To see you both on again and looking good, but going to Virginia City is heaven. Our anniversary was last friday and we were married at the Silver Queen Saloon! So this is the next best thing since we can't go. What makes it really special is my husband had a heart attack 3 days before our anniversary and they fixed him and he was home for our anniversary. Also you passed two Chocolate Factories great candy places and Carson Valley in is a great place to stay. We use to stay there for Hot August Nights in August. So wake up already so I can see more of Virginia City!
We were just up in the eastern sierras about a week ago and went to many of the same places you and Ally went to! Even took a day trip up to Virginia City, Bodie, and stopped into Randsburg on the way home! While not everything was open up there, we still had a wonderful time! The eastern sierras are truly special. I have to go up there at least once a year. Also, Astro burger in Kramer junction is, without a doubt, the best place to eat there! Loved the video! Keep up the wonderful work! :)
I travel there every year.the old guy that owns the building @ 5:54 in the classic Twilight zone episode hundred yards over the rim is cranky.if you look inside the windows on the left you will see the gas pumps used in the episode.i took pictures a few years ago.watch the episode it makes seeing the building even more interesting.
I love the views on 395. Last time I was there was close to 15 years ago when my brother and I went hiking around Mt. Whitney. I too, share Justin's fascination with every old building along the way. Just a thought, it looks like that "modern air conditioner" is really a swamp cooler. It works about as well as spraying yourself with water and sitting in front of a fan. Not great, but it'll get you through a hot day. As usual, Allie is very practical. You can love the grass just because it's beautiful.
Thanks for these videos, Justin! So much of American roadside history is disappearing, nice to see what’s left before it’s gone. I also think back to what was and what could be again if some of these were fixed up!
Justin, the person that owned the hubcap collection passed away years ago. My sister in law bought their house, right across the street from where you were filming, and last I heard, most of the hubcaps are being stored on the adjacent land in some storage containers. There is also an old dirt track where amateur car races were held years ago right near where that playground is.
Alright Justin, NOW you’re on the turf of my happy place. Can’t WAIT for you to go back and film Lone Pine, Independence, Manzanar, the Alabama Hills, Swansea, Cerro Gordo, the Eastern Sierra Museum. Dang... now I want to head back to 395!
Hi from Tucson arizona thanks for having me along for the ride in the park and other places this is fun alot better then watching the news all the time you rock justin
If I was rich and Justin wanted to start up a real estate company where he bought abandoned or for sale roadside attractions and revived them into their own little businesses or museums, I would invest in him to do that, cuz I think he’d be the best guy for it !! If someone reading knows someone who can do that please convince Justin and your pal to talk x))) that would be an amazing opportunity for J, he’s taught me so much about my home state of California and it’s history! I Fr feel like I’ve traveled everywhere thanks to this guy’s videos
Hi, i was born, raised & still live in Las Vegas NEVAAADA, LOL Justin said it correctly the 1st time, Ally definitely knows how to say it, lolz thank you both for always entertaining me and the rest of us out here UA-cam land 🤣
Great video I love that 395 drive to June lake 😍.. Justin you have to go back to Bishop stop at Schats & get the cheesey bread , this video brought back great memories 💖
Justin, good to see you back!!! Please google Egoscue Orange County for a clinic near you. They may be able to help you with your back/neck issues. At one point I couldn’t even walk and they’ve helped me tremendously!!! Please give it a try before any surgery. Good luck😊
Your the best youtuber ever and you make me and my family happy every time you upload another video😁 We hope you and your family are safe during all the craziness happening in the world.
Throughout the first half of the video I had the weirdest feeling of deja vu until I remembered that I’d made this same trip last year down the highway. That Railroad museum was the coolest and the people running it were real nice. They sell official little jacket patches and everything. Definitely something worth visiting when this is all over.
Glad to see you more like yourself. I have been worried about you. Traveling will help your positivity. I felt refreshed after traveling on the old mother road this past fall.
I saw Return of the Jedi for the first time in 1983 in that movie theater in Bishop, haha. I lived in Tonopah, NV at the time, and that was the closest movie theater. ;)
I love that you're exploring the 395, even if it's just in short bursts. I used to live in the high sierras off Highway 70 from the 395. I still make that drive multiple times a year and love seeing all the different roadside things. The lemon/orange building with T-Rex Skelton is my favorite. If you even make your way to Highway 70, head up to town called Portola. We've got an awesome little railroad museum with our own piece of Disneyland there ;)
The term "Mono" is derived from "Monachi", a Yokut term for the tribes that live on both the east and west side of the Sierra Nevada. The indigenous people of Mono Lake are from a band of the Northern Paiute, called the Kutzadika'a. The Kutzadika'a traditionally forage alkali fly pupae. In 1941, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power began diverting Mono Lake's tributary streams 350 miles south to meet the growing water demands of Los Angeles. Mono Lake became a closed lake. This means that water does not flow out of the surface of the lake. Water can only escape the lake if it evaporates or is lost to groundwater. The lake level is strongly dependent on changes in climate. Deprived of its freshwater sources, the volume of Mono Lake halved, while its salinity doubled. Unable to adapt to these changing conditions within such a short period of time, the ecosystem began to collapse. Islands, previously important nesting sites, became peninsulas vulnerable to mammalian and reptilian predation. Photosynthetic rates of algae, the base of the food chain, were reduced while reproductive abilities of brine shrimp became impaired. Stream ecosystems unraveled due to lack of water. Air quality grew poor as the exposed lake bed became the source of air-borne particulate matter, The hypersalinity and high alkalinity of the lake means that no fish are native to the lake.An attempt by the California Department of Fish and Game to stock the lake failed. The whole food chain of the lake is based on the high population of single-celled planktonic algae present in the photic zone of the lake. These algae reproduce rapidly during winter and early spring after winter runoff brings nutrients to the surface layer of water. By March the lake is "as green as pea soup" with photosynthesizing algae. The lake is famous for the Mono Lake brine shrimp, a tiny species of brine shrimp, no bigger than a thumbnail, that are endemic to the lake. During the warmer summer months, an estimated 4-6 trillion brine shrimp inhabit the lake. Brine shrimp have no food value for humans, but are a staple for birds of the region. The brine shrimp feed on microscopic algae. Alkali flies live along the shores of the lake and walk underwater, encased in small air bubbles for grazing and to lay eggs. These flies are an important source of food for migratory and nesting birds. Eight Nematode species were found living in the littoral sediment.
The "clothes" on Uniroyal Gals are removable...they have bikinis under there, and some are displayed that way. Also, Uniroyal sold tires, not gas. :) Good to see you on the road! Thanks for another fun video!
When I was a little kid in Buena Park in the late 60s/mid 70s there was an old prospector statue on a rock formation at the corner of Beach and La Palma. At least I think it was the same shape - it was a long time age. I enjoyed this and was trying to make a trip down to Mono Lake but couldn't book a room far enough in advance in CA so I went to Tahoe instead. Used to make that trip down 395 from eastern Oregon every summer back to Orange County in the '70s.
Awesome California video, I used to live in Adelanto on the corner of 395. I've made frequent trips to Nevada from there. After that I lived in Reno and Sparks Nevada for a few years and made frequent trips back to California for In and Out Burger, but that's another story......
I was born in Nevada, Missouri and even though it's spelled the same as the state Nevada, we pronounce it Nevada. The first a makes a long A sound. I love your videos and I love you two. I'm old enough to be your grandma, maybe great grandma. Please do a video of your wedding when it happens. I would love to see it. I'm sure everyone would.
At your stop in Grant, the building you were in front of was used for various movies and TV filming...most notably was a very famous Twilight Zone episode call "A hundred yards over the rim" starring Cliff Robertson. His son gets sick on a wagon train and he goes in search of some kind of remedy. After going 100 yards over a rim, he is transported in the future of the late 50's and the mystery ensues. You should check out that episode.
My local park used to have a gigantic metal (three-dimensional) hunk of swiss cheese. It had these weird holes that you could climb through (this was the 90s). So many second degree burns on hot summer days. Ah, memories.
Love Virginia city, fun place, a lot there. It’s a bummer that a few kids back in 1996 went into that old cemetery and pushed over most of the very old and detailed tomb stones and statues, all that broken up was from then, and many graves from 1800’s, when going up or down the back way into Virginia city there is an old original ore mill you can see on side of small road.
Seems a bit strange that museums that would be lucky to get a handful of patrons in a day, are closed but theme parks with thousands can be opened. I'm going to love this series.
I think ArborVille is near this town of PearsonVille....It's my keen desire to visit ArborVille where the old western movie Joe Dakota was filmed...💖💖💖💖😭😭😭😭💖💖💖💖
That giant orange made me remember the giant walnut from the Donald & Chip and Dale cartoon "All in a Nutshell" where Donald's running a roadside nut butter stand out of a giant fake walnut.
Not only is the tufa the same stuff at Mono Lake and the Trona Pinnacles, but it's also basically the same stuff that deposits inside steam locomotive boilers!
Hmm it appears I watched these out of order. I watched part two first... ah well. The bit about having the honeymoon amongst the flies... lord of the flies cracked me up.
We love when Ally is with you on these road trips. We're glad you're feeling like your old self Justin!
I have been wanting to take this drive for eons. Thanks for making such amazing content and letting us live vicariously through you, Justin.
Yo Justin! I was the dude wearing the Randomland hat in the store in Bishop. Thanks for spotting me! That made my trip awesome! I was thinking to myself after and that really was random! Super fun!

Allie is blindingly white! Or should I say, stunningly alabaster? You two are a cute couple. Well, you're weird Justin. Allie's cute!

These are so much fun 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤗💕

I like the outro

Aww sweet! Virginia City! I’ve been wanting to go back there! 😍
Back when my childhood School shut downmy grandparents bought most of the playground equipment including horses just like those!
I miss seeing those metallic playground toys that had a lot more character in the parks than the more modern boring plastic ones.
First Hi Justin
Hey Justin!!
I’m wanting to get a sold out sidekick trio or at least a Julio. Are you guys going to get more in the store?
2:26 That thing is begging for mercy
Come to Chico, well, at least for the hell of it. 😆. Fun vid. Is Ally wearing ear plugs, all she does is smile, but you are NVTS! 😏 Thanks. 👍👍
My Dad worked at Uniroyal factory in Indiana. Wonder if that was connected to the stores with this character? Thanks for sharing
BTW Schatz has a pretty famous bakery and you should really stop there, its great
Still suffering from Knott’s Berry Farm syndrome, take it easy Justin, your doing just fine.
Hmm it appears I watched these out of order. I watched part two first... ah well. The bit about having the honeymoon amongst the flies... lord of the flies cracked me up.
