I don't remember ever seeing these when I was a kid. Thousands of beetles, wagons, fastbacks, and ghias. These are very nice looking little cars. Total shame they will not make them again.
Not a Europe specific model, as they're in the Middle East, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Australia and NZ. Many comments on other channels that they were shipped to Canada, and were available in NE US, yet only through brochures... It would be interesting to know if they were really available in the States....? The Aussies were all shipped as KD and assembled there. I'm not so sure as regards NZ.
Doing a quick search, found this on Hemmings... They cite Volkswagen Owner's Club of America... The Sedan/Notchback and Variant were sold in Canada from 1962, but they and the 1500 Karmann Ghia were not strangers to American ownership in the early 1960s, being available in gray market form through overseas VW retailers or coming in through our northern border. Your local Volkswagen dealer began selling and servicing the 1966 1600 Squareback and Fastback, starting in 1965, and these models remained available until regulation changes spelled their doom in late 1973. Limited production (42,498 built between 1962 and 1969) and alien status notwithstanding, many Type 34 Karmann Ghias also came to call the U.S. home; despite sharing mechanicals with the other Type 3s, this Ghia is otherwise unique enough to warrant its own buyer's guide, so it's referenced only tangentially here.
Why can't we just hear the music that the car makes? I had to stop the video. I like the type 3, especially the notchback. But...why? I don't like the noise that passes as music. Please repost the video, but let the music from the car be heard.
The best-looking of all air-cooled VW's, IMHO
Have always loved these
I used to own a 1967 Notchback. Great little car.

indeed. you don't see them any more often. parts are getting pretty rare and expensive for notchys.
I think it's because they didnt release the notchback in the states. Only in Europe. The fastback and swuareback they did, but not the notch back
