What a treat! Never seen anything quite like those trees, their branches bending as if caught in a vortex of a frozen storm. Looks like you're having a wonderful time... love that blue top, too, it really suits you and your location beautifully! 🌱
3000 year old tree! Who knows, it may be standing another 3000 years from now with many more tales to tell. I definitely respect this magical tree, but in a low voice I have to say, 'It looks wicked ". Thank you for history tour and another fantastic video.
As a naturalist I value old growth forest here in the United States. Wonderful that the island of Crete feels much the same. What glorious trees. Thanks for sharing.
You are getting around Europe quite a bit this, don't you? Lovely footage, and unbelievable how long the last tree has been around. It always humbles me to see such old trees. Where I come from, there is a little town who has a 300 year old lime tree in the middle of it, which is also a monumental tree. It's a beauty. Thanks for taking us along, and naughty you for snatching that orange :D
Oh, I wanted so much to be in Crete this August. Yoga is another hobby of mine; there's a well-known yoga retreat center (Yoga Rocks) on the island hosting one of the world's most famous Ashtanga teachers (David Williams) right now. Thank you so much for sharing such gnarly (literally) looking trees. This isn't one of those discussion-generating videos; this is one of those quiet appreciation videos.
I would have been so pleasantly surprised if I'd run into you on Crete, Alan. My daughter, Ishtar, was with us and she is a yoga instructor and took a class while she was there, although not the one you mention. We did see ads for Yoga Rocks at the bus station though. Take care!
Amazed ,intrigued ,inspired ,doe an olive tree produce olives seasonally ,for limited time or for its life ,?? It's base is what stands the test of time ,thick sturdy and wind proof ,love, love ,love your video and seeing something that may of been around when Socrates was ,to a long happy life ,👍🙏🇬🇷 maybe Socrates'admired the fruit of this tree . Wow.
Oh Rachel!!! this is the very best of all of your holiday videos. every time you go to somewhere that has the Gardens that are hedges everywhere that almost form a hedge and that are so formal I'm just so not into those I know their beauty I understand their beauty but it's not my cup of tea I like special things unusual things of course feminine pretty things but that tree that tree is majestic Elegance at its finest you put everything into a beautiful perspective and you ended it on such a sorrowful reality. thank you so much for letting me be part of it. I wonder what stories it would tell if it were able to give us it's biography in a beautiful book.
Hello mam thank you very much ...because of your video about the old olive tree ,im inspired to interseted to vlog to make a video also for old olive tree that here Evangelismo , Athens...Godbless and always stay safe....
The at least 2,000 year old olive tree of Vouves,on the island of Crete, still bears olives. The tree stood here when Rome burned in AD64, and Pompeii was buried under a thick carpet of volcanic ash in AD79. Cemeteries from the Geometric Period (900-700 BC) were discovered nearby.
Have planted four here plus one in a pot. Of course I will never get to see them to maturity. Hopefully the next person will appreciate them. Sad to say though, these days gardens do not seem to be high on the majority of people's priorities.
Now that I check, it does seem that the Minoan civilization was overrun in Crete in 1420 BC. So maybe the information erected on the plaque by the tree is wrong!

Glad you liked the video. Em, Greece already has sovereignty :/
Greece was sold out to Brussels...now they are treated like a garbage dump...as they were betrayed by NATO and murdered by Turks on Cyprus in the 70's

Gardening at Douentza ...some historians think the Minoans were from the African continent,,but, some Greeks would not accept the theory.
