I’ve been a captain in the panhandle for 8 years full time Commercial fished since I was old enough to remember. And I learned a lot from your channel. Thank you for the insight
My wife and I plan on using this on Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow Lake here in Kentucky. Striper and walleye are biting right now. I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks bud, I'm pumped right now! Great content!
Just recently found your channel and hope you make more videos again one day. Quality instruction and enjoyable videos to watch. Regardless, thanks for the great content 🤙🏼😎
Iv been debating on trying this in Hawaii for are ono/wahoo runs, Looks good after seeing this Im going to try it but maybe use double snap swivel 300lb i got ..... The stripe marlins are showing up now, took a triple banger last week..... but still getting some ono caught here and there for winter pretty good... Mahalo tight lines and bloody decks......
Very hjelpful, thanks. The only real question I have regards retrieval of the planer on the third method. Do you just stop the boat and unset the planer, or is there some better trick to getting it to stop digging?
Been thinking of running a 40' planer off the stern cleat, then double snap swivel/rubber band setup to send a DTX 220 Minnow that also dives to 40'. Theoretically, I would be able to get the lure 80' down - will this work? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Hi bro,is the planer in your video tripped enough to stop the resistance, it still looks like it's looking down abit, thanks for your response in advance.
Love your channel (subscribed). If I were to utilize the 'third planer method' on your related video, that is to tie the planer off to a cleat. Then I would not have to be concerned with braid necessarily one way or the other. That was supposed to be a question, not a statement. Thank you
Love your channel (subscribed). I am assuming that braid is preferred as main line for two(2) reasons. First, it would proper to work with planers as it is not going to stretch and as a result make the 'planer trip' more manageable. Second, it seems that braid is preferred for the smaller knots required to flow through rod guides when planer bridal is integrated into main line. Do you agree or have any other related comments. Thank you for your time.
Thank you! Yes those reasons are a huge part. Braid cuts through the water so much better than mono does causing less drag. It also allows the planers to stay deeper in the water
Trying this out soon I had a king on last weekend and was hand lining it in and a shark took it and ripped the line out of my hands so fast if I would’ve had my hands wrapped around it I would’ve got pulled in or at least cut my hands 😂
@@ScottBonnerOutdoors yea I always feed the line back into the water coincidence you answer now because I was just getting everything ready gonna do some planer trolling tmrw see if I can get some kings.
@@timhill7524 how would you do that? Are you talking about for a planer bridle? I don’t like running the planers off the cleats because it’s just to much stuff in the water.
Hi, for method 3, would you suggest/recommend: instead of having a "long leader" of 100 feet distance from the boat to the planer just using a "much shorter leader" of only 15 feet distance from the boat to the planner and thus placing the lure at feet from the boat ?(recommended distance for king = planner clipped to the main line at 100 feet from the boat + lure at 130 feet from the planer)!
I know im randomly asking but does someone know a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I somehow lost my password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
@Brady Korbin i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Why not use a downrigger ? Way simpler , don't need the heavy rod and line to get the planer down on your main line. Yes , you'll need to purchase a downrigger but it's way easier fishing than dealing with a planer stuck to your main line. Pulling all those steel swivels through your ceramic guides while fighting a fish is less than beneficial. Look at some Great Lakes salmon fishing to see how it's done. Better than using huge reels with heavy lines just to overcome the force of the planer and you don't need to worry about tripping the planer due to your boat speed.

Bad ass swivels I should get some of those for some stripers.

Thanks for that video too!
Can I ask what camera and mic you use. I want to do a hands-on boating video. Thanks much
I’m not sure what the mic is but the camera was a canon t5i
Great video,, how long is your leader???
100’ works good
Hey Scott - great video! Only issue is the crimps don’t fit through the eyes on my rod. Any suggestions? I’ve got all good trolling rods
Unfortunately if you can’t find crimps small enough the only thing I can think of is to change your rods which is expensive and undesirable
Very hjelpful, thanks.
The only real question I have regards retrieval of the planer on the third method. Do you just stop the boat and unset the planer, or is there some better trick to getting it to stop digging?
Sorry for the late response but yes it's easiest in neutral. Just in gear is manageable too. There's really no alternative that I've thought of
Great video. Any concerns with the swivels damaging the rod guides?
They shouldn't given the small size of the Spro's! They just get wound right in.
A good quality rod and good streamlined swivels like I have in the video and you shouldn't have any issues

Yes it would work. I run diving plugs on planers for grouper and it works great
@@ScottBonnerOutdoors Do #64 rubber bands snap from the pressure the plugs put on the line?
Do you have to 250 mono line for Spanish fishing ?
Yes the 250lb mono is to handle the load of the equipment not necessarily the fish itself

Yes it works great!
Cool thanks buddy cheers Ricky 💃🕺🎵🎸🐈⬛🧜♀️🐠💦
No problem 👍
Please make video on yellow tailing
great video again , do you just use knots to connect your main line and leader or
how do you connect ?
Yes I tie knots to the swivels from the main line
I would use 200 lb Dacron instead of mono for my bridle. It all works 👍
Thanks for the tip/idea

Are you talking about braided line on your fishing reel or braided line as the planer line?
@@ScottBonnerOutdoors main fishing line
This question was related to my first comment... sorry for the confusion
Will you make another video?
Great and seems easy to do. But once the bridle is done, how does it hold on the mainline ?
I tie it on to the mainline with a uni knot
@@ScottBonnerOutdoors do you have to leave a longer tag end each side and use it for tying it to the main line ?

that's partly answered my question , so braid for the main line , what about the leader assume that's mono ? what LB would you recommend pls
How far of shore for dolphin ?
It really depends on where you are specifically and they move around a lot. They can be anywhere in blue water
Trying this out soon I had a king on last weekend and was hand lining it in and a shark took it and ripped the line out of my hands so fast if I would’ve had my hands wrapped around it I would’ve got pulled in or at least cut my hands 😂
Also had never tried it because I don’t like the way they make it with a broken double snap swivel.
@@randybeltran6607 you can use plastic shower curtain rings from the dollar general with rubber bands as well. works perfectly
This is definitely a risk with hand lining. Definitely make sure you don’t wrap the line in your hands or around your legs in the boat

250 pound

I use downriggers as well but it’s situational. I use downriggers when slow trolling
