Ahmadinejad has had some very questionable remarks regarding the Holocaust (though some Jews/Christians exploit the Holocaust/past Jewish suffering, the historical event of the Holocaust is a fact and thus Ahmadinejad is a fool for questioning it). Zizek is right that the world is paying a terrible price for playing Islamists against Marxism and its allies during the Cold War. However, he does not mention that the price of not doing so could have been greater. The Soviet Union (the largest country in the world, which also controlled half of Europe and much of the rest of the world) was a greater threat to peace and the West's security then than al-Qaeda is today. (Whether the calculus is the same for Hamas vs Fatah is another question).

@yuryf Yugoslavia was a socialist state, not an oppressive communist one like the Soviet Union. It wasn't a member of the Warsaw Pact and wasn't allied with Soviet Communism, and developed its own form of socialism which focused on social corporatism. All companies were run by workers and the economy wasn't centrally-planned; as such, Yugoslavia had one of the highest living standards in Europe, despite being "commie".

@yuryf To continue on from my first post (I ran out of room), Žižek comes from Slovenia, which was the most well-off republic within Yugoslavia. Despite having 1/13th of Yugoslavia's total population, it managed to produce 1/5th of Yugoslavia's GDP due to the republic being the only one during the socialist reign to border a capitalist country (Austria), which allowed for more concentrated market development from Yugoslav companies, especially in technology and banking.
if you go to someone's house and take their family away, kill their brother, and occupy their land they'll surely be prepared to take revenge. You're perfectly free to call it terror or otherwise.

It is anti-semitism to single out Israel when critisizing human rights and not to care about the way f.i. Christians or other minority groups are treated in countries with muslim majorities.
