As a hiring manager, if someone gave me a 6-7 page long letter of recommendation I would be tempted to not even read it. That is extremely unprofessional and sort of disrespectful of the admissions office or employers' time. 3-4 pages is even long. I would not recommend a letter more than a page long.
So true! Negative feedback can help us improve the quality of our videos much more than positive feedback can. What changes could we make to improve the quality of this video for you?
If it is concisely written. Have you ever seen a bad movie you wish would be over already, and then have you seen an excellent movie you wish would never end? The bad movie could be just an hour and a half, while the excellent movie could be 3 hours. The same applies to a speaker, a book, etc.--anything intended to engage the audience.
It’s that way here as well, but what he was mentioning is a work around that some people do here when they don’t have time to write the letter about the student.
@@UniqulyBold1 it's not always that they don't have the time. It's not right for the student to write their own letter, but some teachers/professors are mean people... Compare a letter written by a student and a letter written by a professor... you can see the difference. When they don't write, they don't actually want to help you.
Many trachers get too many requests, to write them all. They ask the student to write the draft. The student knows their positive strengths best, anyways. The teacher should edit the draft and send the letter, if they agree with all information. Students writing a draft is ok, in many situations.
I doubt anyone is going to read a letter of recommendation that long. Maybe, in a few cases it is appropriate. In addition, I have multiple students asking for letters of recommendation. There is no time to write letters of that length.
I will never write a recommendation over one page long. It's unprofessional to the person writing the letter. They do not work for the prospective employer. You're saying for every candidate, three people should write 24 pages of concise information about them, for free. Absolutely not.
My recommender submitted the letter with wrong spelling of the institution's name in which she herself teaches. She put "Khlasa college" in place of "Khalsa college". Is this going to count against me for graduate admission in any Canadian university?
I’m a student myself but I would say it probably doesn’t look great on you. You could try to email the admissions office explaining if you think it would make or break your acceptance.
No, use 2 or 3 examples, of positive strengths of the person. Give a brief story of that person, that demonstrates their strengths. HR, Admissions, Boards will not read 4+ pages of a single letter. They have to read so many. Get to the point, quickly.
If you can say the same thing as a 7 page letter in one page, then the one page letter will be preferred. Furthermore, nobody wants to waste time reading seven pages. This video is hard to watch and misleading.

Thank you for sharing your perspective, Lauren. As a hiring manager, what generally are your target markets and positions?
Agreed.

This video is a great example of why UA-cam removing the dislikes was a bad idea

I had to check to comments before finishing to make see if the lsd was still kicking or not but apparently not. he just doesnt blink
Disagree with how long the paper should be. Max 1 page, maybe two but that’s reaching
Thank you for sharing your insight. For sure, longer isn't always better, but it can be! 😁
How is 4-5 pages "concise"??

Thanks bro
I felt so uncomfortable watching this
Same here 😂😂😂😂😂😭
your video itself is so not concise or to the point, so much of unnecessary blabbering and please blink for god's sake ah!
6/7 pages is just asinine.
4, 5 or 6 pages long! Really? Smh. Nonsense.
More than a page? Hell no
The recommendation letter in my country is for your teachers to write about you not me writing about myself....
It’s that way here as well, but what he was mentioning is a work around that some people do here when they don’t have time to write the letter about the student.
@@UniqulyBold1 Oh that's why thank you for the clarification

Bringing up a 6 page LOR is just ridiculous. You should have left that out of this video. You lost some credibility there.

So the longer the better??
As long as the content is engaging and relevant, yes.
